NIV Bible error - Lucifer AND Jesus are ONE in the NIV. See Isaiah 14:12.
This word appears exactly once in the Old Testament at the sited verse in Isaiah.
There is always a problem with words which appear only once in scripture since it gives translators limited ability to get context and extract shades of meaning.
A similar word is the Greek word translated "daily bread" in the Lord's prayer. In that case, it is worse since the root lemma does not even appear in contemporary Greek texts. In other words, there is zero chance of getting context.
In this case, I provide a reference from the BDB lexicon:
הֵילֵל S1966 TWOT499a GK2122 n.m. appell. shining one, epith. of king of Babylon, אֵיךְ
Brown, F., Driver, S. R., & Briggs, C. A. (2000). Enhanced Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon (electronic ed.) (237). Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems.
Another of the references wonders why the KJV translators had ascribed this reference to Lucifer without justification. See verse 4 preceding in the same chapter:
4 you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon:
The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Is 14:34). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
Given verse 4, I think you should have to defend the KJV translation in this case.
BTW: I like the KJV and have done all my memorization in this version. However, for reading and study I usually use the ESV, NKJV, and NASB.
>>There is no way to connect any of that to Jesus.
There are people who believe that God wrote the KJV and all other translations are apostasy. This is just one of the items on their list of “gotchas” they use to “prove” it.
Quckly looking it up, the word in Hebrew is “shachar” and “yalal” which means “dawn” and to “howl”.

It definitely needs cultural context.
Yawn. You are making up something to be upset about.
Yawn. Another internet pontiff. A congregation of one.
YAAAAAAWNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!
Is that like a lightworker?
I do believe we have a winner here folks.
The pertinent context in question IS about evil; it is not here concerned with various rulers; it is concerned with evil as called Lucifer (a.k.a. Satan) in Isaiah 14:12
God spoke to Isaiah here and God DID NOT intend this to be anything related to Venus or other rulers. Your analysis is fallacious.
If you wish to understand the Bible, you must read it in context when a word is used; not rely on history's usage as a primary source for meaning. The Bible is God's Word to us and His context is what supremely matters, not the worlds understanding, but God communication to us on what He means.
I have been doing biblical exegesis for 30 years - so shut up. You are in error.
He told you this or you assume this?
KJV 1611... if it was good enough for Paul and Peter, it’s good enough for me :>)
Nice pride going on there.
Amen - KJV 1611... if it was good enough for Paul and Peter, its good enough for me
the only pride going on here is men on this page who trust scholars words above God’s Word...
..and yet you expect then to trust your ‘scholarship’. I see a lot of people here going back to the original language, yet you are relying on your belief in one specific translation.
Ignoring the whole version argument, what language translation is correct to use? After all, in the original language, as pointed out several times above, they use different terms in the two citations you mentioned, it is just the English translation that makes them them the same. Does English have precedence over Hebrew or Greek? Would a Latin translation have more authority? What about a Russian translation which may use completely different terms?
That shut up was said in love, right?
**I have been doing biblical exegesis for 30 years - so shut up. You are in error.**
I see we haven’t learned anything about humility in that 30 years, have we.
RE: I have been doing biblical exegesis for 30 years - so shut up. You are in error.
LOL... just because you claim to have being doing it does not mean you are doing it with any understanding. Your emotional outburst demonstrates that you know that.
Open wide your heart to Christ. Let Him lead you, not some silly man-made notional of individual magisterical superiority garnered from a false man-made doctrine of sola scriptura. Come into the light.
I bet his church is a hoot. All prayers start with “God, I thank you that I am not like other men...”
