>>As I have said a thousand times, I am not a Mormon, but have strong Mormon heritage. <<
:)
I caught it the first time I saw it.
And yeah, I know what you mean about people being on the attack. Honestly, I used to do it and, when called for, continue to. However, there is the “shake the dust off your feet” thing. Jesus never admonished his followers to keep beating the same people over and over. You present the info and let the Holy Spirit do His thing, and move on to other non Christians to share the good news.
I think the reason people get into the mode you are speaking of is that they are using people’s posts to respond for lurkers, even if it is only subconscious.
I also don’t believe any of us has absolute complete truth. The bible says that we see now as through a glass dimly. That perception is in my mind whenever I post in these threads, with the exception of the “2+2=4” situations, if you get my drift.
But Paul encourages us to NOT abide heresy and false teachings and to STOP certain men from teaching it!
Titus 1
10For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. 11They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teachand that for the sake of dishonest gain.
There is nothing "subconscious" about it. With the hundred-eighty years of mormonism's attempt to cover the earth with its heresies, it is necessary that Christians do their best to combat the spread of disinformation about Christ.
We are a handful of dedicated Christians who provide sourced facts from mormon church literature and websites to any who may be in danger of being influenced into losing their very souls.
The outward trappings of mormonism and its adherents are so often held up as wonderful examples of "good people" that the fact that every mormon member is ordered to act as a missionary for the religion is unseen by the general public. This may never be far from the thoughts of those very nice, friendly mormons on the block.
While we sorrow for and pray for those who are trapped and unlikely to leave the sect, we are heartened by evidence that even some of them have seen the light through our efforts. Since that is true, we can believe that there are many more who may have been dipping their toes in the waters who having seen our posts have turned back towards true Christianity and away from the false face presented by Joseph Smith and his followers.
The clamoring and vitriol here against us serves one purpose only....it keeps these threads going on and on so that many more have opportunity to see them.
God DOES work in mysterious ways, doesn't he?
We've long since despaired of prying a chink in the armor of the LDS apologists who respond to these threads, although nothing is impossible to God.
However, we are fully aware that there are plenty of doubters and seekers, as well as the casually curious, who will see these threads. We can't let the false mask of "LDS as Christianity" go unchallenged.
I've had the mind-set for years now...that I can only really truly be responsible for myself. Period. I can nudge, pray, and explain to others...but in the end...it's their choice.
"Peering thru a glass darkly"....is a favorite Scripture of mine...because I have had glimpses of total understanding, when I totally "get it"...and then poof, I struggle.
I always keep in mind...that the road to hell is wide and well-lighted. And it doesn't have signs saying, "This way to Hell!!"
While the road to Heaven is a narrow road...and not as well trodden.
