Mormons (LDS) Know More About Bible Than Other Christians
The Salt Lake Tribune ^ | 09/28/2010 | Peggy Fletcher Stack

Atheists and agnostics know more about major world religions than many people of faith, while Mormons can answer more Bible questions than their Catholic and mainline Protestant counterparts.

Those are among the somewhat startling conclusions about religious literacy in America the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion and Public Life drew after surveying 3,412 Americans.

Some of the multiple-choice questions were relatively simple: Where was Jesus born and who led the exodus from Egypt? What religion was Mother Teresa, what day does the Jewish Sabbath begin and what is the name of Islam’s holy book?

Others were more obscure: What is Indonesia’s dominant religion? Which Christians teach that salvation comes through faith alone?

About half the Protestants (53 percent) couldn’t correctly identify Martin Luther as the person whose writings and actions inspired the Protestant Reformation. Fewer than half of Americans (47 percent) knew the Dalai Lama is Buddhist and only 38 percent correctly associated Vishnu and Shiva with Hinduism.

John Morehead, director of the Western Institute for Intercultural Studies in Salt Lake City, had already noted religious illiteracy in the general population as well as in the evangelical community. But he did not expect Mormons to top them in their biblical fluency.

“Mormons tend to emphasize Mormon scriptures like the Book of Mormon rather than the Bible in their devotional life,” Morehead said in an e-mail.

Even some LDS scholars were surprised to find Mormons at the top.

If we are judged to have followed His commandments, -His words not mine,-then we receive his Grace and are saved into His Father's kingdom.

Yup; this is MORMON heresy all right!

The books of our life are opened and our works are judged by Christ.

You have good color vision but poor Black/White vision.

There is ONE Book of Life, and it ONLY determines our salvation.

Any OTHER books there may be determine our rewards in Heaven.

I GOT A BOX!!!!

I GOT A BOX!!!!

Well if you were a Baptist, you must have not been a good one, or paid attention to what they stand for.

Southern Baptist know full well the role and reason for works. I serve with many even as we speak gearing up for the next Prison ministry weekend. So all Protestants, Catholics and Orthodox very much have a works bit, as I said...

[ejonsie22 correctly states]

It is BECAUSE of that salvation and having Christ in our hearts that we WANT to do the works God directs us to

I also correctly state that the LDS have it backwards, as I have said.

It is works FROM being saved, not works TO be saved.

Whenever I see the latter I immediately know there is false doctrine ahead, most likely from a cult seeking some level of control over its people. The doctrine of works for salvation is the very tool such enterprise use to control their flock. If one believes their works get them into heaven there is now limit what the organization can get out of them simply by telling them “god called you for this task”...

There is an interesting aside to all this, about the works judgment piece but I need a little time to put my thoughts together than I have right now. But it is an interesting "contradiction" with the LDS mantra and doctrine over works and such.

In that I will address your later points in the post.

Funny thing..........

I ask people I know...where is Gitmo...and they have no idea. When I tell them it's in Cuba...they think I'm lying to them!!!

Sad, but true.......

Obviously your revelation did not give you the full story...

The thief's real name was Jeb, he was originally a Roman oarsman but due to a RIF in the Roman Navy found himself unemployed and down on his luck. In his heyday he was a strong young man, good with the javelin but even better on the water. He liked his wine, but not too much, was an avid collector of Centurion and Gladiator trading cards and small stones. He also liked long nights with his wife on the shores of the Mediterranean Ocean, before she left him over his misfortune and ran off with a Gladiatorial fight promoter named Philip...

(If you are going to write fiction, at least try and be as creative as your first prophet, or do him one better...)

Bwahahahahaha, ya had me goin' there for a minute! I figured it out at the 'Centurion and Gladiator trading cards'. ... It's terrible to be so gullible, but there it is. But I'm not gullible enough to believe the heresies of momronism, like the god Momron's worship was once a man and gained exaltation and godhood due to his goodness, then fathered Lucifer and Jesus with a goddess wife (wives) ... I mean, even an old man as gullible as me doesn't fall for that one. ;^)
