There is a near universal acclaim for the pastoral visit of the successor of Peter to the United Kingdom. The crowds, the depth of his messages in every venue, the obvious hunger of the faithful for the truth of the ancient faith, all added together to make this trip both memorable and historic.
However, though Pope Benedict has physically departed and returned to Rome, the mission he elaborated in this historic four day visit has only just begun. It is the New Evangelization of the Church in the United Kingdom and then, through her, the unfolding of a new missionary age dedicated to re-Christianizing the European continent.
The reaction of the secular Press to this Papal visit is worth noting. Only a few months ago that press was predicting the Pope would be arrested upon arrival. If not, that he would at least be greeted with throngs of angry protestors. Ironically, though there were some protests, the numbers were relatively small. The real numbers in this story were the massive crowds which gathered in every one of his venues to listen to this humble and deeply reflective Christian leader. The response of the secular press is revealed in comments made by David Wiley of the BBC news:
"What has struck seasoned observers of papal tours is that people everywhere have responded spontaneously to the Pope's evident humility and his ability, even when talking serious theology, to communicate simple moral concepts in plain language. As David Cameron plans to say later, as he bids farewell to the Pope, the 83-year-old pontiff has caused the whole country to sit up and think."
However, the Pope did more than call the UK to "sit up and think", he called the Nation to kneel down and pray...

INDEED.
INDEED.
Must be nice to know that you can live just like the unbelievers but you're going to be rewarded with paradise while they get fried.
That's what I call great theology.
Almost in the "72 virgins........." category.
So can we take the next step and say that our lives (i.e. our works) give witness to our faith? ("By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" Matt. 7:20)
Only if I can have you as my able assistant. I’ll even let you use the bunsen burners.
lastchance, That would depend on how much asprin (or ear plugs) I can get my hands on.
The flaw in your arguement is that being critical of the dogmas and decrees of the Roman Catholic Church is not the same as hating any person. The RCC is an institution, a flawed one at that. Jesus said that there would be people that would hate Him. Anything more than that is open to subjective interpretation. If that were not the case, everyone who ever thinks even a bad thought about the RCC would be doomed.
Why is it that catholics want unity with people who they constantly say hate them soo much? Why do catholics act like the protestants are wrecking their party? Seems like more concern for protestants than those who totally reject God in any of it's various forms.
**One will never stop sinning until they get to heaven and become perfect.**
Error alert! One must be perfect to even ENTER into heaven!
No further sin is committed at the moment of death. At that time there is a judgement (particular). The person’s soul (and body) may be sent to three places.
1. Without any sin on their soul — directly to heaven
2. For most people — to Purgatory so that their souls can be purified before entering heaven
3. And for some people — striahgt to hell because they have denied the precepts of God and the Church
I’m sorry you think you can go through life all by yourself without prayers and support from others. We are all weak in our own way — prideful in others.....and we all need prayers.
In principle that is not only correct but clear. In practice however, there is something else going on.
What stuns me is the repeated assertion of things about Catholicism that are simply not true. When one points out the error the level of hostility exhibited in the responses indicates that the truth of the matter has little to nothing to do with the disagreement.
So anyone asserting that there is not hostility toward Catholics has the burden of explaining the persistence in falsehood by those who purport to be attacking only the organization or the doctrine.
If someone persists in characterizing the Pope as 'the Nazi Pope,' or in characterizing the doctrine of transubstantiation as alchemy, even after lengthy attempts to explain, not only does such a person display ignorance both of alchemy and of transubstantiation but hostility toward persons.
If the magisterium is frequently referred to as the "magicsterium", can this be explained by anything other than personal hostility?
There is a kind of anti-Catholic cognitive dissonance about Catholicism. Here's an example: My late godmother was a graduate of Oxford and an involved member of the C of E. yet when I became a Catholic she characterized the Catholic Church as superstitious.
Cardinal Newman was at Oxford. Anglicans sing hymns he wrote and read his books. Who ever thought of Newman as superstitious? But somehow my 'Aunt Dora' was able to forget or dismiss what she knew about Newman in her expression of revulsion at Catholicism
Why is it that catholics want unity with people who they constantly say hate them soo much?
Is this a serious question? The Church has always evangelized her enemies. It's our job, our privilege, our call.
Why after saying that the criticisms are not personal do you ask questions not about Catholicism but about Catholics?
If you are not able to get enough aspirin maybe you could add another NSAID to your medicine chest. Earplugs might be a better idea since I think you could argue they are required under OSHA when working in the presence of loud noises. If you hold the cat still I’ll step on its tail.
lastchance, you can do better than that.
On second thought, maybe you can’t.
I concede to your superior parry.
However, the cult of your group of ten doesn’t even gather in the Name of God — if there is no Trinitarian belief, then your group is properly spoken of as Unitarian or some other cult.
“vation isnt determined by religion.” So then, why do you come on a thread talking about how the Pope has brought Christ into the forefront in godless Britain? Or do you not want Britain to become Christian again? Why persist on attacking Christ’s Church in each thread if you don’t care which religion as long as we worship Christ?
Ah, now you’re talking about the elect crowd who wish to sin more so they can get more forgiveness as they are predestined to heaven. This is strangely the root of those who make siren calls to the shallow joys of sin (the pinko mafia)
Philippians 2:12-18
12Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyednot only in my presence, but now much more in my absencecontinue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
13for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
14Do everything without complaining or arguing,
15so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
16as you hold out[a] the word of lifein order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
17But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
18So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
Hebrews 12:14
14Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
1 John 5:5
1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
1 John 5:18
18We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him
