At sundown, we begin Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. In the Scriptures, the Israelites were commanded by the Lord to fast and pray and bring their sacrifices to the Temple in Jerusalem, and then to ask for the Lords forgiveness for all the sins they and their nation had committed that year. Only the sacrifice of a perfect animal, done with a humble, repentant heart, and with faith in Gods mercy and grace, would bring about forgiveness of sins.
For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for ones life. (Leviticus 17:11) In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (Hebrews 9:22) The problem is: What does one do to receive atonement in the modern age, without a Temple? How can one make sacrifices and receive forgiveness of sins and thus the right to enter the holiness of heaven and live with the Lord in heaven forever and ever without being able to sacrifice a perfect lamb at the Temple in Jerusalem, where the Lord designated all sacrifices to occur? The destruction of the Temple by the Romans in 70 A.D. was a huge blow to Judaism, because it deprived Jews of the place to receive atonement from God.

With the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
all need for priests and a priestly class ended.
How often do you go to Church? And what denomination is it??
Yom Kippur is therefore seen as the one day each year that G-d has set aside to forgive the sins of those who are repentant, have reconciled with those they have wronged, and humbly ask His forgiveness.
Since G-d is eternal this also applies today for Jews ....
Worship God instead of creating rationalizations to assuage ones conscience with handpicked bible verses which can be refuted with other verses. All is couched in the selfish term "MY Christianity" as opposed to the Christianity established by Jesus. This is the smooth path to eternal damnation referred to frequently by the Lord..
Accept Jesus in your heart as your personal savior instead of just claiming this with your lips
I believe in the Lord’s Supper, in remembrance of His death, just like He told us to do: “do this in remembrance of Me” - Luke 22:19. I do NOT believe in the transubstantiation, it is not scriptural.
Amen my Brother.
Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the LORD has said, Among the remnant whom the LORD calls.
Thank you for noting the verse.
Yah'shua, the high Priest has made atonement for the behalf of ALL.shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiachLev 23:28 "You shall not do any work on this same day, for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement on your behalf before YHvH your God.
I don’t see what does have to do with anything, but I’m a Southern Baptist and I go to church 3 times a week (Sun morning, Sun evening, Wed evening) plus I teach Sunday school to an adult class. Also I grew up in Spain, was a Catholic for about 30 years, until I found freedom in Jesus. No man (priest) should be able to hold man-made rules over your head.
“Do this in Rembrance of Me” was JUST for the Apostles??? OMG!! Have you ever thought how left out you are IF you really believe that??<P.SO how often do you go to Church and what denomination are you??
There is nothing so freeing as our Lord and Savior! He is our all in all.
I did not say that, you did! Where is the scriptural basis for transubstantiation? BTW, I already answered your other questions.
please....
then they go ahead and sin more....like Clintoon....
although Catholic confession is not public, it is lowering yourself to another human being and saying out loud your sins...acknowledging your sins...
but I suppose just talking to God in the privacy of your home would be easier...and you wouldn't want the public to know that you actually sin...no ,not that...
Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice. Now as individuals we can pray directly to Him with the help of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Our relationship to Christ is now personal without human mediators. It's wonderful to be able to pray to Him, whenever we want and know He will hear and respond to us.
My best friend is a Misionary Baptists and was raised to think that Catholics are Cannibals!! OMG!! We will ALL answer to Jesus on Judgment Day.
The one comment in Joel Rosenberg's blog that I haven't figured out is because the Temple was destroyed in 70 AD Jews no longer have the correct place to make the sacrifice. I get the significance of the destruction of the Temple from the Christian perspective. Any thoughts?
Same here. I have a personal relationship with Christ. Through His ultimate sacrifice we no longer need an intervening fallible person to “confess to”. We can confess, repent and be forgiven directly by Him.
Only the Way, the Truth, and the Light, can reveal the path for each individual. We all are at different points looking at the same focus.
Love ya.
AMEN!
We can go to Him with anything no matter how trivial. He hears us and cares for us. He has us in His hand and nothing can take us out of it.
Well one thing, it’s AD70 ... just saying ... :) OTT - the destruction of the Temple didn’t end Jewish customs .... here’s a great place to read about it. http://templemountfaithful.org/Events/pesach2004.htm
