Our daughter and I flew to Tokyo to visit some friends, and the first Sunday we were there, attended Mass at a Parish that didn't have an English language Mass. My friend went with us, to help us find the place, so she attended Mass with us. Afterwards, she asked me how I knew what was going on, because it was entirely in Japanese. I told her that the Mass was the same everywhere, and even if didn't know the language, I knew what was happening. Afterwards, I asked my daughter what the sermon was about, and she told me, because she could speak and understand enough Japanese to get the gist of it.
It was a fascinating experience! The following weekend, we went to a Franciscan Parish, in Roppongi, where they DID speak English.
