Years ago when I was in a period of spiritual searching, a Mormon was trying to get me to try the LDS “Church”. At that time, I prayed about the LDS “Church” over the period of a few weeks and the Holy Spirit gave me a loud NO answer.

I don’t know who answered you but the Holy Ghost does not speak in the Terms of nagatives nor in fear or doublt!
Doc & Cov 9
7 Behold, you have not understood; you have supposed that I would give it unto you, when you took no thought save it was to ask me.
8 But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.
9 But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong;
How do you infer fear or doubt from a definitive NO answer? If the Holy Spirit doesn't speak in negatives, then how could He say no? If I prayed to the Holy Spirit about whether it is right to murder my neighbor, wouldn't He say no? When Paul prayed repeatedly for the removal of the "thorn in the flesh" and was denied, didn't the Holy Spirit say no?
“...I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you”
