This rebranding is not for the sake of shorthand convenience, but to remove Christian from the name. The founder of the YMCA would be so offended by this action.
Let Kate Coleman, the chief marketing officer for YMCA national know what you think about it. She receives email at: Kate.Coleman@YMCA.net

I think they would have done it anyway... it is kind of a trend... KFC, NPR, etc.
Buy you’re right. They’re not sad to lose the dreaded C-word.

Actually, the Y.M.C.A. is giving Christians a bad rap for their establishing and maintaining of a chain of sodomy hotels. Or what else does the Village People’s song mean?

Not a big deal to me. Everyone I know (including myself) has called it “The Y” for at least the past 20 years.

Obviously.
The worshippers of Mammon are removing references to Christ.

The idea to non-brand and express the name is a “bite sized piece” is utter bull!
They want to secularize and erase Christ.

Don't know about the YMCA, but I'm pretty sure the YWCA is pretty much a leftist political org now. Actually many of the institutions in this society should be re-branded since they bear little resemblance to the original organizations. The League of Women Voters is another. I think they used to be principally interested in promoting voting and issue awareness. Now, they seem to follow the single agenda.

Over the years, millions of American boys and men have benefited from the YMCA’s Indian Guides program for young boys and their fathers, which was aimed at building character, strengthening family relationships, teaching about America’s Indian heritage, and even providing charitable assistance to poor American Indian children. Sadly, this wonderful program was discontinued a few years ago because it was—you guessed it—politically incorrect.

They’ve called it the “Y” ever since I was a kid.

As for the “C”, my local Y displays the text of John 3:16 behind the front desk. Different from most Y’s I think.

Its a way of being warmer, more genuine, more welcoming, when you call yourself what everyone else calls you. Don't tell my wife this; no one would be able to call me by my new name in polite society any more.
