War drums are beating in the Middle East. In a short time, the United States has increased the number of its carrier strike groups opposite Iran to three, and reports are raining down of a tightening ring of American and Israeli concentrations all around the Islamic Republic. On the diplomatic front, the Israelis are unusually concerned about their international image (for example, making concessions in Gaza) while their top officials - including Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself - are shuttling between Jerusalem and Washington.
Everybody in the region is restless. Turkey is making spectacular diplomatic pirouettes. Egypt is quietly seething, and Saudi Arabia less quietly so. Jordan's king had ruefully predicted war if no peace was achieved by the summer [1], and summer has now come. Syria and Lebanon are positioning themselves to weather the coming storm [2]. Yemen is in disarray. Russia, China, India, and a host of other powers are vying to make the best of the fracas. The Iranian regime itself appears to be digging in for a fight.

Could a pathologically narcissistic Muslim see himself as anything *other* than the Grand Caliph?

If we could actually free Iran, then it could be said that something good came out of the sacrifices that we’ve made over the last two years. But there have been no good fruits from this regime, none. So I have my doubts.
Hmmm... I guess it would be that if he has Israel to all the heavy lifting, and he just tacitly allows it, he gets the credit but doesn’t have to pay the price.
YEs, but he bent the knee to the Monarch of the Arab, which means he’s more Sun’ni aligned, which means it won’t cause him a tear if those Shi’ia savages get blown to allah. (p.s. I never know where the apostrophes go in those barbarian i-slam names, so I just throw one in there where it feels good.)
Merchant killed by government agents in Tehran Bazaar - eyewitnesses
Tehran, Jul. 07 - Tensions increased at Tehran’s grand Bazaar on Wednesday after a respected merchant was stabbed to death, allegedly by pro-government supporters, on the second day of a major strike. Azizollah Kashani, 68, died of his wounds in hospital after being stabbed several times by plainclothes agents who, along with State Security Forces, attacked shopkeepers in a bid to intimidate them into opening their stalls.
The bazaaris refused orders to reopen. In several skirmishes, merchants chanted “death to the dictator” in reference to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to eyewitnesses. State Security forces have blocked all streets leading to the Bazaar, including Pamenar and 15th of Khordad streets.
Separately in the north-western city of Tabriz, merchants at the central bazaar held a strike in solidarity with shopkeepers in the capital.

The security forces have also fired tear gas at the merchants who are reportedly fighting back physically and chanting anti-Regime slogans. All paths to the Bazaar has been closed by the security forces and even the subways are not stopping at the Bazaar station.
Number of well known merchants have announced that tomorrow Thursday July 8th will be a day of general strike by the merchants in protest against the attack of security forces and the murder of Haj Kashani.

OPEC Has Already Turned to the Euro...The source for the euro exchange rate is the Federal Reserve, and I have calculated the euro's average exchange rate to the dollar for each year based on daily data.

We can see from column (4) in the above table that in 2001, each barrel of imported crude oil cost $21.40 on average for that year. But by 2003 the average price of a barrel of crude oil had risen 26.0% to $26.97 per barrel. However, the important point is shown in column (6). Note that the price of crude oil in terms of euros is essentially unchanged throughout this 3-year period.
As the dollar has fallen, the dollar price of crude oil has risen. But the euro price of crude oil remains essentially unchanged throughout this 3-year period. It does not seem logical that this result is pure coincidence. It is more likely the result of purposeful design, namely, that OPEC is mindful of the dollar's decline and increases the dollar price of its crude oil by an amount that offsets the loss in purchasing power OPEC's members would otherwise incur. In short, OPEC is protecting its purchasing power as the dollar declines.
INDEED.
I’ve always wondered what that passage was describing. Interesting.
Strike was because of VERY heavy taxation imposed on the merchants
Reports of a pincer attack on Kurds by Iran and Turkey in progress.
Gas stations around the country are now being guarded by Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) to prevent them being set on fire as happed not too far back.

One gets the sense that the MSM is failing to report on a remarkable social revolution. Persia could be a world power if they joined the civilized era. Running around in bedsheets and practicing medieval lifestyles is horribly oppressing... All of humanity suffers under the oppression of Islam.
