O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.
That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
Dominicus Gabriel Mariae
O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.
In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love
That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,
Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.
“Bekaa” is the place in Lebanon. It could be a different spelling in the RSV; mine is locked in the TV cabinet right now, and the Spanish version has yet another spelling.
Aha, there was another on the shelf - “Baca,” it says, with the long A marked in the first syllable.
Thank you both so very much for the beautiful Scriptures!
Great post - is the Lewis you refer to "C.S. Lewis"? Beautiful sentiments - prayers for all of us...
Thanks
Yeah, C.S. Lewis, I’m THINKING but am not sure it’s somewhere in Screwtape.
In my Hebrew Bible it’s just a Beth and a Caph, with a shewa (sort of) under the BEth and a long e mark (I forget the names, it’s been 30+ years) under the Kaph.
Not a lot to go on. WHich is no doubt why the translations vary. The RSV notes says “an unknown valley ...”
I’m speechless.
Pretty thought provoking stuff.
Life is not pretty. It poops, it bleeds, it is messy.
Life is what happens off camera, not what the TV shows present.
Changing my daughters diapers isn't glamorous, but it is love. And love is not some bubbly feeling, it is a bond, a commitment, a choice.
Okay, that makes sense.
10-FOUR! or, uh, I mean, Amen!
It is the loving we do when it's not glamorous, when we don't especially feel like it, that provides the best hermeneutic for TRUE Love, the Love which came down from heaven.
That, to me, IS true love. Loving another to whom we are attracted, or who give us things, who make us happy, to whom we feel "obligated" or because we are expected to is not really love in the Godly sense. Jesus told his disciples that they were to love each other as "he" loved them and that was WAY different than the love like we love ourselves kind.
To be honest, I don't always love myself. I mess up, I can be wrong, I can be irritable. If I loved others like I love myself, I would not love a whole lot. But to love someone like God loves - unconditionally - is not a human trait. So I truly believe that in order to obey Christ and love others the way he wants us to, we must do so through the power of the Holy Spirit that indwells us.
I think it is wonderful to be a witness for the unborn and to try to open people's eyes to the horror of abortion. Just please don't forget that people sometimes make this choice for reasons we can't even begin to understand. Many women are forced emotionally to this point by parents, friends, baby daddies, society - their whole world sometimes - and it takes a great deal of strength to resist those forces. If we truly want to love as Jesus does, we will come along side, be the help and strength they need to overcome the pressures to "fix" the problem in this way. Help them to see another way, that they are not alone, that God has allowed this child's conception for a purpose, and that it is good - there is a future.
Tenderness, understanding and love will change hearts and minds and fulfills Jesus' commands to love others as he love them. I'll be praying for a blessed and awesome response to the efforts.
Please allow me to interrupt the prayers for the Rel Forum with this prayer request from

Please post: A co-worker came to me today and told me about his daughter and her husband - they have been trying to conceive for years and finally were successful. A couple of weeks ago, an ultrasound showed that the baby had a brain and a heart, but no other organs and no amniotic fluid. They induced labor today, 5 months gestation. The baby is not supposed to last more than a few minutes. Theyre not even sure what the sex is.
Please pray for healing for entire family. Miracle for baby would also be great!
Thank you!
Please pray. Thx in advance for your prayers.

Prayers up
THX THX.
I join in earnest prayer for this baby and family.
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man,he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Phil. 2:5-8).
Good morning! “the form of a servant”. Thanks!
Good mornign to you too!
Christ is my strength.
Oh dear. I’m so sorry.
Of course prayers. Oh my.
And I got taken to task for suggesting that those on the other side do not have hearts of love.
So, I expressed myself poorly. It was my heart, and the hearts of the 'pro-lifers' that I was praying for.
It seems to me that it is WE who need the grace of further love if our witness is to be sincere and effective. I guess it goes without saying that one prays for the other side. But it is my faults and sins which at least contribute to a situation in which killing a baby would ever seem like a good idea, and certainly what's wrong with ME is what, with God's help (okay, with God's doing all the work), I may be able to amend.
In other words, yes. I agree.
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
