Litany of Humility

Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Closing Prayer

Dominicus Gabriel Mariae

O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.

In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love

That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,

Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.

Praise God for kindnesses small and great.

Amen! And "ditto"!

That is great news! Always a good way to start the day! :)

Yes. 38! I think I missed once, maybe twice. I have it on my crackberry. I’m also in the next to last day of a Noxena to St. Dominic because tomorrow is his day, so I’m a praying fool! (got the novena on the crackberry too. after Mass I haul out the cyberdevice and bring em up — and the LOLs (little old ladies — which is not an age or gender designation) look at me disapprovingly.

Is there anything in the litany about not enjoying be disapproved of?

@ Maryz: YES, NOT having a head full of cotton wool is SO nice! Thank you, Jesus!

So, we have sort of junior Dominicans come to our parish every summer. This year wee have a Deacon and a brother who is not far enough along for ordination.

AND we have Adoration from Wed AM to Thu PM. Of course it ends with Benediction. And every time this summer, the deacon (who has been in charge of it) forgets the key to the Tabernacle, so he scoots out during the Divine Praises to get it.

So two Thursdays ago I said to myself, “I know!” I asked my guardian angel to talk to his guardian angel and remind him to remember the key.

2 minutes later he came in this the thurible AND the key!

I’m just sayin’....

So instead of a ‘message’ I have only thanks to God.

That's a wonderful message - thanks to God... for all kindnesses great and small. What could be better?

My name’s Dawg. I am a silly-o-holic, and my life has become unmanageable.

My name is trisham. I try to laugh as much as possible, and I am a hopeless insomniac. :)

What’s unmanageable about your life, MD?

We’d probably save time if we stuck to the short list of what’s manageable ...

Um, let’s see ....

Sun comes up more or less on schedule?

Nope.

I fell asleep on the couch between 2000 and 2100. I woke at 2300 and got a bankie (Actually a sheet) and a pillow and read a little bit and slept until, well 0800 with a few feline interruptions, as in: DO you REALIZE that it is 0330 and there is NO FOOD in my BOWL? Are you STUPID or WHAT?

Polly cat is so demure most of the time, but she has taken the notion that the way to get me off the couch is to yowl loudly. Clint just starts re-arranging the furniture, with a major in moving knick-knacks. The other day he got a live round out of a little box where I deposit odd cartridges until I get around to sorting them ... It rattled very effectively

It’s too hot upstairs. In the hot nights I sleep downstairs with the AC and a fan.
