Litany of Humility

Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Closing Prayer

Dominicus Gabriel Mariae

O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.

In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love

That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,

Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.

I’m actually not havign TOO bad a time with it. I’m building up slowly. I’m doing 250 mg for 5 days (just finished that) then 500, 750 .... 1500. If it gets weird, I’ll jump off. But physical discomfort I think would be easier than what I’ve had the past 10 months.

We had RAIN! It’s been so dry even the dogwood are looking peaked.

God has made the rain to fall on the just and the unjust.

Well, the unjust, I’m pretty sure, anyway:

The rain it raineth every day
Upon the just and unjust fella.
But chiefly on the just because
The unjust steals the just’s umbrella.

All the wonderful images in the psalms and elsewhere about the dry land being brought to life by rain — sometimes in torrents like the flash floods in the Negev, where rain on the hills will come rushing down the wadis in a mighty moving wall; — sometimes like dew which ever so gently seeps through the stoma on leaves and makes the limp and brittle grass supple and upright.

Lord, if you will not sweep me away in a flood of love, a flood so deep that it will overwhelm me and cast me up upon the shores of your kingdom, then make me gentle, supple, yielding, but strong so that I may ease and caress the feet of the saints who walk on me toward your throne.

(p.s.: teach me to mean this.)

I prayed for rain yesterday and God was merciful to grant it. ;-/

(Amen to the prayer.)

It rained here, too. The catz are annoyed.

Making this prayer most days, at least I recognize when I’m not receiving what’s asked. I can tell that I haven’t been delivered from the desire of being approved, for example ;-).

I love rain — I wish we’d get a couple of days of steady rain right now!

"Thank you. I’m in. I’ve been accused of things that are not true, and it hurts."

Oh really?

I also like the explanation of what forgiveness means. It’s “giving up my right to get even with”. Just like our Heavenly Father releases us from the penalty of our sins - the ultimate penalty (death) - we release others from our need, want, to have revenge. Vengance belongs to God.

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!

Isn’t Niacin a B-vitamin?

Last I heard! LOL.

I’m not sure what Mad Dawg is taking so much of it for. I don’t recall the target of such treatment.

I think it’s good stuff for a lot of things.

Just one of my weak attempts at humor ;-).

Without going all the way back through the thread, I think MD’s major problem is high blood pressure. Whether the Niacin is supposed to help fix that, or whether he’s taking it for a side effect of the bp drugs, I don’t know.

But we can all pray for his healing, b-vitamins or not!

Btw, I dreamed that Frank (the baby) told me where Bill’s iPod is, and I said to myself, in the dream, “Self, remember this so you can get it in the morning!” But I can’t remember. In the craft-supplies drawers, maybe? Anoreth thinks the catz hid it, and we need to vacuum under the sofa, anyway.

Spozedly niacin raises the good HDls or somesuch.

LOL.

Before your meditation/prayer time . . . or during . . . Ask The Lord to show you where it is. Then quiet your mind in a meditative way for a minute or so.

and, pay attention as you go about mostly mindless tasks . . . for Him to drop a thought or picture or memory into your mind about where it might be.
