Are Ouija Boards Satanic?
Aggie Catholic ^ | 6/9/2010 | Marcel LeJeune

Q - Is using a Ouija Board ok, if just for fun? Also, what do you think of the comments at the bottom of this websiteI can't believe that Hasbro makes this and Toys 'R Us sells them!

A - Thanks for the questions. I think my answers might just surprise some of our readers.

The origin of these boards is not from a game. Rather, they come from a practice of "channeling" or "divination". Channeling is asking the dead to give us answers to questions or power and is an ancient - and dangerous - practice. Thus, the word "occult" = "hidden". The Bible speaks directly to this practice:

Let there not be found among you anyone who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortune-teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, or caster of spells, nor one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the LORD, and because of such abominations the LORD, your God, is driving these nations out of your way. - Deuteronomy 18: 10-12
He practiced soothsaying and divination, and reintroduced the consulting of ghosts and spirits. He did much evil in the LORD'S sight and provoked him to anger. - 2 Kings 21:6
And when they say to you, "Inquire of mediums and fortune-tellers (who chirp and mutter!); should not a people inquire of their gods, apply to the dead on behalf of the living?" - Is 8:19
So, the history of divination and channeling is ancient, but it has some more modern forms, which have become popular again from various sources, including - New Age practices, the Occult, fortune-telling, Wicca, astrology, and "games" such as the Ouija Board. All of these have Pagan spiritual origins and should never be practiced by Christians.

Ultimately, this is a dangerous practice because it is an attempt to seek spiritual power from somewhere other than God. If this is the case, then demons or evil spirits are most likely the ones supplying it. We open ourselves up to demonic influence if we do so - to the point of having possession being possible down the line.

Some might think this is an overreaction and that it is just fun. I have heard some say - at most, it is a spooky time for kids to pretend they can talk to the dead. But, demons can work through this kind of attitude to quietly induce someone to their way of thinking and acting.

A personal disbelief in the power of Satan, does not make his power go away. Just ask an exorcist who has had to fight with such demons. They will not beat around the bush in regards to such practices.

The danger is very real.

Thus, the Catechism states:

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another's credulity.

So, in answer to your question - I believe the Ouija Board and other kinds of New Age practices to be very dangerous. I also think it is scandalous that they are marketing it as a "game" and so many people accept such things uncritically.

When I was a kid, I thought it was just a game. As I got older, I learned more than I wanted to know.

Trust in God, alone. He may not answer your prayer or your question as quickly as you would like, but He knows what to do more than any mortal human ever could.

Satan delights in trapping us. Don’t give him the satisfaction.

Stay close to God, and all we be well.

I’ve heard stories about LOTS of things. That doesn’t make any single one of those stories true.

Not unless it happened to you, of course.

“You mean fasting.”

Fasting is an excellent spiritual discipline as it decreases the neurotransmitters necessary for suppression of our own personal unresolved issues and thus they come to the surface for soul cleansing. It's the flip side of emotional eaters syndrome and is due to 90% of the body's serotonin being produced in the enterochromaffin cells in the lining of the stomach and upper GI.

The pathway to knowing and experiencing God is both logical and scientific. A miracle is merely science that we don't understand. That does not take away from their reality.

“Satan does not want you to know he is real. That’s his most powerful weapon. And he is the father of lies. If he knows you know and are a worshipper of Christ he will only mess with you when you start to move away from Christ. He then goes after you. Fortunately for me, he has always overplayed his hand and runs me right back to the Lord. Man, don’t you know that upsets him! In the end I know God used me to beat the devil when He certainly doesn’t need my help.

I firmly believe in demonic possession. And the most dangerous is those who are possessed but show no clear signs. And of course it’s dangerous for those who don’t believe. And those who don’t believe and “play” with it are in for a rude awakening.”

Very accurate statements.

I have worked with people for about twenty years, cleaning up the messes they created with boards.

So.... You are admitting you are a con-artist?

Your stunning elocution has completely swayed me over to your side of the argument.

Do I really need a sarcasm tag on the above?

The issue is basically if you "invite" demons into your life, you will get them.

And if that were even remotely true, Buffy the Vampire Slayer would have been a documentary instead of a campy TV series.

Then I wouldn’t have heard the stories. Hearing a story =/= living an experience.

In consciousness development there are three primary levels while one is in the physical body, each corresponding with the individual’s level of perception of a subject studied and the perception of “self.” They are:

Dependency: These people accept truths based upon faith alone and will argue with anyone who disagrees. They follow blindly based upon what they are told and just “believe.” Logic to the contrary will not sway them. They tend to be group oriented in their spiritual practices.

Self Identity or “Egotists”: They base their identity on their limited knowledge and experiences. They will argue with anyone, as if you are correct, then they must be wrong and thus are losing a part of their ego identity. They build their identity upon logic. These people tend to be “self worshipers.”

Divine Identity: These people have experienced the Divine and no one can convince them that their experience was not real. They just know, and there is no room for doubt. Also, they usually do not have the need to convince others that they are correct as their identity comes from their relationship with God.

Please remember, absence of proof does not constitute the proof of nonexistence!

Without research, my guess would be things like the Chinese Zodiac (sign based on birth) or astrological sign (time of birth).

I had one friend who use to make a wish at 11:11 on the clock.

I am sure that’s part of the same stuff.

Just pagan crap.

Absolutely, absence of proof does not imply nonexistence. I don’t need to physically see God to know he exists. I have all of the proof of God I need in what I see in nature, the vast expanse of the universe and yes, in the process of evolution (flame on if you care to, I don’t care). All show me the power and glory of God and how God has no boundaries of time and physical capabilities that limit man’s mind and perception. I also believe that there is a Satan and his minions although I do not attribute Satan or his minions to physical objects; that is a human concept of projecting abstract concepts into understandable physical form. If Satan manifests himself through inanimate objects then we should all live in fear of everything around us and that is a human concept of evil. Ouija boards have generally been used as a way to contact the deceased; usually because of the human longing to stay in contact with loved ones or to try to discern the meaning of both life and death. Do some believe that they can use the object for evil? Sure, just as some will pray for evil to befall others but that does not make prayer evil, the intent of the human is what makes the prayer good or evil. The evil in Nazism was not in the symbols because the swastika was an ancient symbol taken to be good. The evil in Nazism was manifested through Hitler and his human followers. The Christian cross was a thing of pain and evil that came to represent something good for men but the physical object itself was not evil or good, it was an inanimate object used by men. Wine is still considered to be an evil by some but is a physical substance that to some represents the blood of Christ. If you want to find a physical representation of either good or evil look to yourself and to other men because it is man who becomes the purveyor of good or evil, not the physical objects man creates or uses.

It took some time but I found the information I was referring to yesterday, forbidden knowledge, divination, etc. It was the “Book of Enoch”, not in the Bible, accepted only by Ethiopian Christians.

Ezequee - (AKA: Chazaqiel) – Taught the secrets of clouds and meteorology .

There’s a lot of little pieces but not a lot of big pieces.
