The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: The Real Reason for the Economic Crisis
Catholic Apologetics International ^ | May 2010 | Robert Sungenis, Ph.D.

Everyone knows the world is in an economic crisis. What everyone doesn’t know, however, is the real reason for the crisis. There are many theories that the crisis is caused by too much spending, trade deficits, fiat currency, national debt, natural disasters, and many other suggested causes. Certainly all these play their part in fomenting the crisis, but they don’t tell us the ultimate reason they are all coming together. The real reason why economies fail is that they are ordained by God for the sins of man. God knows we need a stable economy to provide for our basic needs as human beings (food, clothing, shelter, etc). As such, it should come as no surprise that one of God’s main punishments for sin is to deprive or reduce the amount of these essential items in hopes that man will see his destitute state and call upon God and repent of his sins. God has done this with every society since the dawn of time. If the society begins to slide into immorality, the economy of that society will soon begin to crumble by God’s direct intervention. One can examine the historical profile of any ancient or modern civilization to confirm this fact. One will also see that if the society ignores these divine warnings and punishments and remains on its path of immorality, then total collapse and large tools of death will be the next step in God’s program. If the society recognizes its errors and reforms, then God will withdraw his judgment and the economy will be restored to a healthy condition.

This divine pattern of judgment is outlined in Apocalypse chapter 6 in the famous passage about the Four Horsemen.

I believe in the gist of this. We are being judged and will continue to be so.

I’ve often pondered how the monetary system is a give from God. It stands to reason when we turn from God we turn from what’s good and what we take for granted.

Pre-Tribber here. Yes the economic situation around the World is bad and getting worse but in my understanding of how the end-times events play out. No seals have been broken, no Horsemen released yet. In other words, you aint seen nothing yet.

But, Obama says the sun is still rising, the birds are singing, the sky is not falling.....

Yea, right.

As we have sown, we now reap. All of this can be traced right back to the removal of God from the public square, the destruction of marriage and family and the sexual revolution.

As we have sown, we now reap.

Exactly. And I don't agree that it is because God is up there orchestrating all of this because He just decided to. He set these laws of nature into motion when He created us. If you sin, there is a going to be a natural consequence of that sin. Eventually, one way or another you get to face that consequence. Just like the laws of physics are naturally occurring, so too are the laws of sin and consequence. That explains the regularity of the pattern seen consistently throughout history with other civilizations.

Sadly, I don't think America will be waking up until it's too late.

I agree.

I used to tell my children that when they did the wrong thing, it may seem okay and they may even get away with it for a while, but bad choices will always get bad results.

I also told them that God did not give us the 10 Commandments because He is a cruel and vengeful God, but because He is a loving father that wants only the best for us.

Society is now suffering from the inevitable results of the last four decades.

I couldn’t agree more with both of you. Excellent and true points about a loving God and the natural consequences of sin.

If we think we can engage in gross sin and yet escape its consequences, we might as well believe we can repeal the law of gravitation, or that putting our hand on a hot stove will not burn us.

We haven't had an even remotely righteous financial system since 1913.

That God has let us carry on this unholy debt-slavery charade so long is a testament to His patience with our folly.

Very good article, and I do agree that our current economic problems have to do with the graveness of our sins, most in particular, the sin of abortion ... Christ has given us so many opportunities (and continues to) to turn our backs on darkness and look to the Light, but many remain dazzled by Satan’s “glow.” Dear Lord, save US!

......”one of God’s main punishments for sin is to deprive or reduce the amount of these essential items in hopes that “man” will see his destitute state and call upon God and repent of his sins.”......

I believe we are not yet in the four horsemen arena yet....rather that God is speaking to individual hearts who have wandered away from Him...or have yet to come to Him and receive salvation. For others who have turned their back on Him...they too will feel the loses. God is long-suffering for us all but there comes a time when he acts clearly and without question. It looks like most Americans still need a wake up call that all we have is because of His goodness to us....but we need to be rich toward Him....too many have forgotten....too many no longer take the time for Him upfront, close and personal......that is the wake up call we need....simple..get with God and follow His greatest command.....To love Him with ALL our heart, mind, body and soul...first and foremost.
