Claire will not remember any of this. The parents will remember every second. I am not a doctor but have spent a lot of time in hospitals. The brain turns off to protect itself under trauma. I have seen things done you would not believe to patients and no one remembers a thing after they leave.

Pulling of the trachea is very normal because it is uncomfortable but pulling the trachea out can cause alot of damage because there is a balloon on the end. I have seen patients pull the trachea out with their lips.

After awhile in the hospital, tying patients hands so they cannot do damage to their trachs and I.V’s looks mean but minimises harm and you realize it is in their best interest.

I am praying that Claire is just waiting for everything to be okay before she comes back fully. Never give up. Ask questions and make each physician give the parents a report. It’s hard to know everything but it’s the only way you know what you are fighting and if there is another treatment you need to ask about or look into. And I will say it does appear the parents are doing all of the above already.

Words from Tyler, just a couple of hours ago:

Tiffany and I just stepped out of Claire’s room as the team assembles to extubate Claire from the ventilator. Please pray that she continues to get stronger and is able to swallow and cough well enough to clear her airways. She is breathing well right now and her eyes are open. Thank you for your prayers.

Sadly for Tyler, my nephew Tim (or Papa to Claire), had to return to Colorado. Tim (Tyler's Dad) has been a stalwart source of strength to Tyler and he is very sad to have him leave. Tim sat and talked to Claire for a time before he left, but he could not stay for the extubation.

Today I will pass along the chain, Fawnn's suggestion of recordings of Dr. Suess and those famous children's prayers to add to the music which they are playing to keep her soothed.

I did not post this day-by-day report expecting your prayers to be proclaimed here.

I know that they do continue for this child and my family -- and every time I come to FR I can read and pray with each of you.

Extubation is a major step, I know, but I am waiting to be able to tell you she has recognized someone or had a BIG step forward in this recovery process.
