Your husbands correct. Call the Bishop and pray for the priest.
I am not Catholic. I can tell you I believe the priest who substituted this morning is an idiot.
Do what you need to do to get this man out of ever preaching again. Where did he get his training from a cracker jack box?
I love that story!
Something similar happened to Rudy Giuliani. Remember?
While it’s too soon to change parishes, I told my husband that when we attend other churches to give all the $$ we usually give to the church we attend, and NOT make up the envelops later.
It’s a good idea to go up the chain of command and keep copies of what you write and to whom, and also copies of any replies you may receive. In other words, keep a paper trail.
For example: the first letter should go to the priest who caused your concerns and it should state simply and clearly what those soncerns are. A cc should be sent to your pastor at the same time.
If you don’t hear from either the sub priest or the pastor within a reasonable number of days, send a letter to your bishop and enclose the letters you have already sent to the priest and to your pastor. Let the bishop know that you have not received any response to your first letters.
If you do receive a response, send your initial letter and any responses you have received to the bishop with a cover letter to your bishop explaining your concern and what you have done about it.
If no one responds, send everything along to the papal nuncio.
Good luck
Good on you for reporting the priest.
One of our priests is going out of his way to talk about “immigrants” and how Christ would treat them, purposefully excluding the illegal portion of the label. Even my wife, who is generally forgiving of these type of statements....has had it.
This stuff is coming to a head with me, taken in conjunction with comments made by Gomez, out in LA.
My husband, on the way out told the lector, a Church council member, a regular church attendee, and vented and informed.
Just Teasing, my FRiend!
Confession is good for the soul. It is really excellent that you have found a Church Home and a Good Priest that you can confide in.
I feel very sad for good Christian folks for whom “church” (OF ALL DENOMINATIONS)has been a disappointment or painful experience for them. It happens all over the Body of Christ, and is indicative of the human condition, I am afraid.
But, As Jesus said, the gates of hell shall NOT prevail against His Church!
Oooohhh...What was it that happened to Rudi?
Am just curious - why must you depend on your husband so much to contact the Bishop or research the relevant rules? Are you helpless/mute/illiterate?! Of course I’m just kidding, but have a bit more confidence in your own abilities! If you don’t like something, do something about it; you shouldn’t have to go through your husband.
As I said, my husband will call, and I’ll probably write a letter to the bishop. It might take awhile, but I’ll inform the results in this thread.
Why the knee-jerk reaction? I thought only libs did that.
My husband does what he is best at, talking, and I do what I am best at, writing.
My thoughts:
1. You are absolutely justified in being upset. The priest is a steward of God’s truth, and the Mass is not his to toy with. The Mass is an act of public worship and no one should ever have to suffer having to wonder at every moment what sort of political shenanigans might happen at Mass. That priest is an utter disappointment and should be corrected in the most serious manner.
2. Please keep in mind that this is the actual teaching of the Church: God chose to reveal Himself as Father and Son using male terminology. God also refers to the Holy Spirit using male terms. Nevertheless, God is a mystery and despite this self-revelation of His male-ness, God is a mystery Who cannot be confined to such human adjectives and qualities. God is ultimately beyond our comprehension. God also describes feminine qualities of the Father and of the Holy Spirit. God also revealed that women are also made in God’s own image. But God never refers to Himself as a Mother or as a Daughter. While God’s perfection is beyond gender and encompasses both the masculine and feminine, He became Incarnate as a man, not as a woman. And that man referred to His Father in heaven, and to a male Paraclete helper (the Holy Spirit). The Church has adopted God’s own example in using male terminology when speaking of God and the three Divine Persons who are present in Him.
Not so, my FRiend. At least your organization does not acknowledge what it is you say this proves. The church staunchly proclaims its infallibility, inerrancy, and superiority to all groups worldwide. You really must check its press and the postings of the other Catholics here at FR.
You sir, while a gentleman and a reasonable scholar, may not be so adamantly defensive of the aberrant expressions of this bastion of "truth", still need to toe the party line. After all, when men like this goofball stands up as "alter christus" and claims to be an intermediary between God and man, then call the Holy Spirit a woman and look longingly at the little altar girl, this is one ordained by headquarters, not you.
Clothed in his garb of distinction, performing the Mass, giving some wafer & wine to once again openly crucify the Son of Glory, this piece of darkness is one of those you must defend or you become the judge of the judges. Which is it?
Rudy was giving a political speech in a building, and lightening struck, and it affected his microphone. He joked, that as a “Catholic” he took this seriously. I’m fuzzy on the details after all this time, but if you do a search, you’ll know the whole story.
I have been very lucky in my parish priests. My old parish priest was not afraid to call things like they were.
More than once he told us, "My people I love you all dearly, but I am not going to hell for you." When you are doing something wrong I must correct you, because I must answer for all your souls.
I will add to your explanation the grammar rules that have been so destroyed by this feminist/PC garbage that when it comes to the English language. If the antecedent is ambiguous or gender-neutral, one is to use the masculine pronoun, ie., he. Not they, that is plural. Women are not being left out of the equation because the sentence is properly written, "Everyone must get his book from the shelf," and not "Everyone must get her book," -- don't get me started on the constant misuse of they/their to get around the rule.
Thanks for your thoughts.
This priest turned the Mass into some kind of circus, particularily since he changed the Gospel which was in the book. Maybe it was a setup for his later comment to the altar girl possibly being a good priest some day.
Do I smell a zot? Go back to the DUmp.

“Next year comes the little girls to the altars (theyve already had the little boys) and soon the tunnels between the monastery and the convents will be busy with training sessions.”
I hope you encounter Christ one day. I have no reason to think it has happened yet.
