I was upset with a substitute priest at Mass

Posted on 05/30/2010 10:12:21 AM PDT by Sun

When my husband and I went to Mass last evening, unfortunately our parish priest was ill, so a guest priest said Mass.

When he read the Gospel, he changed He to she. Later the substitute priest said we really don't know if the Holy Spirit is a he or a she.

Later he said, wouldn't the altar girl make a good priest some day, even though the Vatican said women priests is a closed issue. It won't happen.

There were a few other things, but those were the things that bothered me the most.

Here is the gospel, where he changed He to she:

"Jesus said to his disciples: "I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you."

I would make a big scene right in the middle of the Reading. Of course, they would call the police and trespass me from the parish, but I still would. Ask my wife. Of course, at our Latin Masses, the circumstance never arises.

I just thought it seemed kind of silly that you’d be online bitching about what you don’t like about your Priest, but not be “man enough” (LOL) to speak your mind to the right people. Something about reading “I had my husband call so-and-so” or “My husband showed me where the pronoun is “he.” just put a bad taste in my mouth. You’re obviously an intelligent, literate and thoughtful woman; don’t hide behind a burka.

a hippy-looking guest priest did a reading of a silly old poem “Desiderata”.

Not that old. I like this one better.

A really effective move would be to gather a list of these liberal individual priests on the Internet webpage with a short line or two relating to their M.O. If the laity had a listing to reference they could then put pressure on these scoundrels and entice them to leave the church for more receptive pastures like the current Episcopal or ECLU denominations. Both parties would be served well.

Imagine some loon priest in Los Angeles getting nasty mail from a faithful member in Texas announcing the loon's unorthodox beliefs to all and advising the loon to leave the priesthood immediately. These people need to be constantly shamed and made to leave.

I’ve had the same thought. Walk right up there , grab the microphone and tell the people the disrespect this priest has for the gospel and your consequent disrespect for him. Have you ever done that?

“Actually there is at least one Catholic priest here but I do not feel at liberty to say who they are without their permission.”

Maybe you would consider sending him a FRmail with a link to this thread, and he might give you suggestions to give me.

Actually I should have said suggestions to give to all of us, because who knows how many of us will encounter this some day.

No, I haven’t done it but the outburst would sure get the Bishop’s attention. I’ve decided it’s better for me to just avoid the NO masses altogether.

... and what will the Bishop do? These are the critical moments for the Catholic Church ... the moments the Episcopal church “passed” on ... heading them toward their progressive destruction.

Glad you husband will call the Bishop’s office, but take action locally too. Let your office staff and priest know that you NEVER want to see that priest darken the door of your church again!

“I’ve decided it’s better for me to just avoid the NO masses altogether.”

You are required to attend Mass under pain of sin. There are plenty of conservative parishes, so there is no excuse.

There are times when I like to refer to this:

“There are not over a 100 people in the U.S. that hate the Catholic Church, there are millions however, who hate what
they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church — which is, of course, quite a different thing.” — Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

Good advice, although we have to weed out any go-along/get-along types. There are some in every group, both secular and religious.

WOW, your post deserves a huge bump for those who missed it, and may I add, the Clinton crime couple knows who their strongest enemies are, CATHOLICs.

Here’s your post from previous page(s):

“Cardinal O’Connor had some serious problems with Clinton. I recall that the Clinton Administration actually had the FBI look into O’Connor’s background trying to pin some anti abortion violence on him.
I’ll see if I can find a link for you.

Then after TWA 800 went down, Clinton was going to rush to the airport to comfort the families. Cardianl O Connor got in touch with his office and told him, if Clinton showed up he would leave. Clinton didn’t call O’Connors bluff.

In 1994, Clinton administration Attorney General Janet Reno launched infiltrators, wiretaps, mail monitoring, and a wide range of other spying activities in a massive coordinated effort that included the FBI; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; U.S. Postal inspectors; the U.S. Marshalls Service; and other Federal and local law enforcement agencies. President Bill Clinton had acted decisively to fight what he and First Lady Hillary Clinton deemed the most dangerous terrorist threat facing America: conservative Christians.

This huge Clinton surveillance scheme was VAAPCON, the Violence Against Abortion Providers Task Force. According to the U.S. Justice Department, VAAPCON “was charged with determining whether there was a nationwide conspiracy to commit acts of violence against reproductive health care providers.” The more than 900 targets of all this surveillance included the Christian Coalition, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Women’s Coalition for Life, Feminists for Life, Americans United for Life, the 600,000-member Concerned Women for America, the National Rifle Association, the American Life League, the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, and even then-Roman Catholic Cardinal of New York John O’Connor.”

If you find the link, FRiend, please post again, with an excerpt.

Cardinal’s Dying Wish: Keep Clinton Out of St. Patrick’s
NewsMax.com

As Cardinal O’Connor battled brain cancer and faced death during the
past eight months, he remained steadfast in his distaste of Bill
Clinton.

A source close to the Cardinal tells NewsMax.com that O’Connor had a
long-standing order to keep Bill Clinton out of St. Patrick’s
Cathedral - no matter how important the occasion.

Last week the White House announced that both Bill and Hillary
Clinton would be attending the Cardinal’s funeral mass at St.
Patrick’s, set for Monday afternoon.

“O’Connor would have gone berserk if he knew Clinton was coming,” the
source said.

O’Connor was said to be extremely hostile to Clinton, a man who
annoyed him on several levels. O’Connor had been a veteran, a Navy
Admiral who had served in the military and in the front lines of
Vietnam.

Clinton’s draft avoidance record didn’t sit well with the Cardinal,
nor did Clinton’s corruption.

O’Connor was also annoyed with Clinton’s strong advocacy of partial
birth abortion - a procedure O’Connor likened to infanticide.

O’Connor’s animus toward the president erupted after the crash of TWA
Flight 800 in 1996.

In the days after the tragedy, Mayor Giuliani had organized a
memorial service for the victims’ families at JFK Airport.

Cardinal O’Connor was set to officiate, until he found out Clinton
planned on attending.

“If Clinton is coming, you can count me out,” O’Connor’s office
bluntly told the mayor’s office.

Clinton was quickly disinvited.

A month or so after the crash, O’Connor hosted his own memorial mass
at St. Patrick’s for the victims. Clinton was in New York that
weekend for a birthday party and the White House called the
Archdiocese and asked if he could attend.

The answer from the Cardinal’s Office was blunt: Bill Clinton is not
welcome at St. Patrick’s.
