Mormon Doctrine (1958–2010), RIP.
Religion Dispatches.org ^ | May 24, 2010 | Joanna Brooks

I’m holding in my hand my black hardcover copy of Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie, one of Mormonism’s most influential books, an all-time Mormon bestseller, which went out of print this week.

A book written, I’m sure, with the best of intentions by a revered Mormon leader. And, still, a book that continued to circulate even after other high-ranking Mormon leaders recommended more than one thousand corrections to its content.

A book that called Roman Catholicism the “Church of the Devil.” And a book that elevated to doctrinal status non-doctrinal folklore about the origins of the LDS Church’s ban on conveying priesthood authority to members of African descent, claiming that blacks were the descendents of the accursed Cain.

A book that due to its authoritative presentation and doctrinal fundamentalism gave many Mormons reasons for grief.

Mormon Doctrine (1958 – 2010), RIP.

Because there are many like me who are seeking truth had I not been given a copy of The Book of Mormon I would have remain on earth in total darkness!

so this is an allowable double standard. another may not present truth to mormons - only mormons are allowed to meddle in anothers’ personal business.

***

No one should assume for another or try to block or cause another to stumble by trashing or keepping truth from another child of God.

I just had a man come to my door Sunday to spread the gospel as he knew it he was from a local Baptist church
he asked if he could leave a pamlet I said yes even though I told him I was Mormon!

This was the second time another faith came to my door God bless them

No one meddle in my personal affairs

There is no book on earth that one should not hear or fear for knowledge is power and the Lord gave all of His children who want to walk the walk to discern the differents!

I would bet they would cry ‘copyright violation’ if someone posted it online. Shame that. I would LOVE to have a first edition of MD.

When I left the LDS, I kept my “quad” (Bible,BoM,D&C,PGP in one volume) and my copy of Mormon doctrine. I got rid of most of my other LDS books. Now I wish I had kept all of them.

The vast amount of misrepresentation, twisting and lies spewed forth on these boards by the Anti-Mormon clan is quite mind-boggling and overwhelming. That is probably intentional.

Any one wanting to know about the LDS faith do yourself a huge favor and don’t get your info only from here or other anti-biased places.

By all means, DO read this stuff. Then look into it yourself. Put forth some effort and you will be astonished at just how decietful the anti information is. Very little effort can lead you to much information addresses every negative comment here.

You do want the Truth right? Show it.

I thank the Lord everyday that I have found it!

Maybe you should be thanking Satan you found Mormonism.

God had NOTHING to do with it.

Imagine if he used all this energy for something good.

- - - - - -
Preaching the truth to those who are deceived IS good. His obsession is with telling others the truth about Mormonism and warning others about its dangers.

Great use of his time and a calling God has given him.

Good job, colo!

Matt. 7: 1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

So, Resty, let's say you have an 18 yo daughter. Let's say you're both talking about a friend who just moved in with a guy - cohabitating. And let's say you encourage your daughter to not ever follow suit with that, giving her exact reasons why living together can be detrimental to individuals and societies. Have you just "judged" that other woman? Or have you provided mentoring discernment based upon biblical values?

Jesus also says we will know them by their fruit...so Jesus actually says 'tis OK to pass judgment on the quality of fruit on relational things like character & approach and moral things like character & behavior.

In line with 1 Cor. 2:15-16 I encourage Christians to judge "all things" (but not the inward heart or motivations) as the apostle Paul expressed: "The spiritual man makes judgments about ALL THINGS, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: 'For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?' But we have the mind of Christ." (1 Cor. 2:15-16)

Besides, Resty, what does a person who is judging somebody for being judgmental doing? (Whispered hint: they are being 'judgmental' -- at least by their own standards)

Therefore, I find it a bit disengenious. You can't accuse people of being "judgmental" without issuing a judgment!

So, is the RF of this site about judging the veracity of faith/beliefs or not? And if that's the case, are you claiming it's "OK" for you to personally judge my faith, but Mormon beliefs are somehow "off-limits?"

All these harsh standards you set for others will be there on judgment day

First, name a "harsh" standard I've mentioned...(if you can't be specific in your critiques, then I respectfully ask you 'be quiet'...generic catch-all critiques are never helpful...if you're trying to hold me accountable, please do...but nobody can change examples of behavior or "misbehavior" if they aren't given specific feedback on specific behavior)
...then if you have somehow managed to capture such an example...
...prove that I "set" it (IOW that it's not a standard already expressed by God that He has told us to keep...)
...In this way, Resty, I don't "set" standards...
...I mean, why bother, when God already has done so perfectly!

I mean what? If I tell the next generation not to live together, I'm somehow "guilty" of "judging" because I have "set" too "harsh" of a standard for them to bear? (Sorry, but God set that standard back in Genesis, and Jesus reinforced it in Matthew 19).

Beyond all this, let's cut to the heart of what's at the foundation of all this, and make something very clear in the process: I'm a sinner, Resty. If you want to point out specific sin I've committed to me, please do. I'll go one step further and express a standard God through Jesus' brother, James, stated:
"For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it." (James 2:10)

...to you there is nothng good about the Church or its leaders or the LDS as a whole.

So, according to James 2:10, we're just to start grading the Mormon church on some curve...just highlight the good behavior and ignore the internal sin and bad external fruit?

Mormons love to cite James 2 all the time...just not this particular verse. (It kind of grades against their merit badge view of earning godhood). Resty, I've indeed stumbled at points of breaking God's law. That means, then, I'm actually guilty of breaking His whole law. That's why the apostle Paul called himself the "chief of sinners." He wasn't trying to win some PR contest.

I've got good news for you: God doesn't grade on a curve.
He didn't grade "chief of sinners" Saul/Paul that way.
He doesn't grade me that way.
And He doesn't grade you and other Mormons that way.
(It's pass/fail)

Either Heavenly Father looks at the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ, and substitutes that in our place (1 Cor. 1:30) via our trust in Him that He is our Sufficiency;
OR, we bumble & stumble through life, trying to be forever self-focused on some self-improvement venture scheme, thinking mistakenly that God will overlook our sin if we're at least "better" than most of others (whatever that means)...
...as if God is not holy and just and won't hold our sin accountable...
...as if we could drag our sinful selves before such a holy, perfect being and not be eviscerated on the spot if our sin wasn't covered over and dealt with on the cross by a Perfect Being, Jesus...
...as if God ignores what He has stated in His Word ""whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it."

Resty, will you confess with me that we're BOTH guilty of breaking ALL of God's law, as defined by James 2:10?
That God isn't going to lower His standards?
That God won't overlook our sin? (No matter how "small" we think it is in comparison to others)
That God placed that sin and accountability for it on the cross-bearing shoulders of Jesus Christ, and took out His wrath of justice there 2,000 years ago?

Resty, God indeed found fault with His future Church before He even created the world. His plan of salvation was operative long ago. He knew Jesus would need to become a man to save it, precisely because of this great fault. Sin has "diseased us all." But by His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53).

Will you receive this disease-healing, fault-covering, All-Righteous Jesus Christ who wants to heal your inner self, your debilitated self, your weak legs, your feet, your limbs, your entire being?

You made the accusation yet have failed to show (with documentation) that our info (posted from LDS sources) is incorrect.

The truth is the LDS church is full of lies.

No one should assume for another or try to block or cause another to stumble by trashing or keepping truth from another child of God.

Yet you rancorusly oppose 'antis' from providing truth to others. FR posts do nothing more than that Baptist - so why does that disturbe you so?
