Im holding in my hand my black hardcover copy of Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie, one of Mormonisms most influential books, an all-time Mormon bestseller, which went out of print this week.
A book written, Im sure, with the best of intentions by a revered Mormon leader. And, still, a book that continued to circulate even after other high-ranking Mormon leaders recommended more than one thousand corrections to its content.
A book that called Roman Catholicism the Church of the Devil. And a book that elevated to doctrinal status non-doctrinal folklore about the origins of the LDS Churchs ban on conveying priesthood authority to members of African descent, claiming that blacks were the descendents of the accursed Cain.
A book that due to its authoritative presentation and doctrinal fundamentalism gave many Mormons reasons for grief.
Mormon Doctrine (1958 2010), RIP.
LOL
[It's even on his helicopter pilot's license: "I can personally vouche for Blumenthal. I served with him in Danang with the special squad black ops jungle battalion tactical forces." (This week - Blumenthal: I Wore The Uniform In Vietnam Hearst Unearths Trove Of Material )]
It was the Lord who was displeased with the philosophy of men not JS get your facts straight!

Show me one of my posts where I ever said that Joey Smith did not like the “philosophy of Men”
Joey Smith was extremely pleased with the “philosophy of men”
He embraced it whole heartedly...
He started a new religion so that he could practice it...
He wrote D&C 132 as a threat to his lawful wife Emma so that he could continue to practice it...
All of it was all his own ideas...the adultery, the bank scams, the murders, the ugly words against the Catholic Church...
The LORD Jesus Christ is not responsible for any of Joey Smith’s “philosophy of men”
Resty: I dont why one continues to display such behavior that the lord council His children not to engage in..
________________________________________________
Joey Smith did do a lot of dont do what I do, do what i say...
Briggy Young perfected that ...
Its a mormon tract...
Resty has admitted to some sins and then she accuses FReepers who would never dream of doing such a thing of being guilty of the same...
In the past she has boasted of her great knowledge of the acohol she drank ..in the past or still I dont know..
Then a couple of days age she accused other FReepers of being drunks...
She hinted at a shady past for herself...
and then accuses other FReepers of “behavior that the lord council His children not to engage in”
Resty wildly shoots out accusations at FReepers when she does not know them at all..
Most of the Flying Inmen are Chrsitians and go to Church...
But Resty has painted us all with a brush as though we were unsaved and unChurched and deliberate habitual criminals and sinners...
Anyone not bowing down and worshipping the idol of Joey Smith is thrown in the fire..
I’m in my 60s and this onslaught by mormons against Christians started for me more than 40 years ago...
I have a somewhat thick skin by now...
But I feel sorry and insense for outr fellow Flying Inmen who are upset ands hurt by Resty’s continuual verbal/written abuse...
I realize she is just following the mormon line of directives...verbally attack and provoke the Chrsitians into responding and defending themselves and then yell “I’m a victim”
But I know the lurkers must recognize that Resty and the other mormons are not being attacked..
but the mormons are the instigators...
Mormonism is not nice...and Resty demonstrates that quite nicely..
Ping (#22) about people who don’t get it, that a Christian is not a Christian because of what church they belong to :-)
Resty, you called nana a kook, called elsie an old goat, and now have accused colo of saying “wacko” things. You hurt one Christian you hurt us all.
Can you manage to make your point without resorting to calling childish names?
OK, that was funny!!!!
Oh snap!
PIng to 63
Oh Resty, you are too funny. You call bratty names and avoid answering every direct question, and then you pretend to take the high road. Go polish your halo, and sing “Hail to Joseph Smith” if you can’t stay in a real theological discussion here.

Really why should any LDS care what another beleives it is that person business
Then there are those beings who stick their nose where it does not belong and wonder why one would set them straight when an anti refuses to honest!
Some say well I was doing it for the Lord when the Lord admonish His children to leave it alone and put their own house in order!

take a bow but there is on little part you omitted maybe because it is ok for the anti to attact the LDS but never return in kind is the anti motto!
That's so interesting Resty, because Christians are compelled to preach the truth to the unbelievers.
If you are so sure LDS have a lock on the truth, why are you just making fun of Christians instead of using reason, documentation, scriptural truth and love to sway us to joining your church?
If you are so positive that you are on the fast track and we are not, don't you care about us? Why aren't you trying to bring us into the fold?
Really now resty - why then do lds send missionaries to everybodies door if what you say is true?
Resty, playing the victim is so unbecoming. Point to one post in which an anti-mormonISM person here attacked you.
I dont why one continues to display such behavior that the Lord council His children not to engage in..
Does your lord say that if you don't like what someone else says you may engage in diversion, name-calling and finger-pointing?

Because there are many like me who are seeking truth had I not been given a copy of The Book of Mormon I would have remain on earth in total darkness!
One can only go so far on the path with the Philolophy of men
Matt. 7: 14
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
I thank the Lord everyday that I have found it!
Day after day time is spent fault finding to you there is nothng good about the Church or its leaders or the LDS as a whole.
- - - - -
Because there is nothing ‘good’ about a church founded on lies (Mormonism) and demons.
There are several things that may APPEAR good, but scratch the surface and you will find something else entirely. Let’s look at a few:
GOOD WORKS - Goes to motivation. For the LDS, good works are required for their exaltation/spiritual salvation. Therefore, the motivation becomes bringing THEMSELVES glory, rather than bringing glory to God. For Christians, ‘good works’ are done to show Christ to others, not out of duty but out of love. Contrast this with the LDS trying to earn Godhood for themselves.
TITHING - In order to attain godhood, the LDS must go through certain rites and rituals. Tithing is one of the requirements, a strict 10% (plus other offerings) is enforced in order to get a ‘Temple Recommend’. If you don’t pay a full tithing then you are not living the LDS ‘gospel’. Many Mormons will also compare tithing to ‘paying their fair share’. Every year the member has a meeting with the local leader (Bishop) to ensure they are paying a ‘full tithe’.
However, for Christians it isn’t about 10%, it is giving as we are led, which is very often more than just the 10%. God doesn’t care about numbers, He doesn’t NEED our money. We give because we realize it is ALL God’s money and He wants our trust and our offerings of love. As a Mormon, I made sure I paid the 10% tithe plus any other offerings I was told to. As a Christian, I don’t keep track of what I give, I give what and where God leads me, but I DO know that it is FAR more than just the 10% the LDS church extorts out of its members.
CHARITY - As shown by the recent Haiti earthquake, the LDS made a big deal about their ‘help’. Yet, as shown by Google earth links posted here, the publicity made it seem more than it was. The Catholic church had hundreds of people and a tent city set up across the street. The LDS? 50 tents in the parking lot and a lot fewer people. Also, considering the wealth of the LDS church, Godzilla figured out that their ‘millions’ was a pittance. Yet they milked the PR strongly. Again, what seems ‘good’ on the surface, has other motives, PR.
WELFARE PROGRAM - The LDS tout their welfare program but often fail to mention that is a ‘work project’ for FAITHFUL LDS. The ‘Bishop’s storehouse’ requires LDS members to ‘volunteer’ a certain number of hours for the food and it is very restricted.
We are not talking about a GOVERNMENT welfare program, but a Church charity. Can you imagine Christ making the 5,000 He fed WORK for it? Or the early Church saying you have to do so many ‘volunteer’ hours before they help the widows and orphans?
Physical charity is a type of the Charity God gave us through the blood of Jesus. We give cheerfully and without condition (by grace), because Christ saved us by grace, it is a gift not a job. We care for the needs of those who cannot help themselves because Christ cared for us because we could not save ourselves through works. Yet the LDS, with both charity and salvation, works are required.
NO PROFESSIONAL CLERGY - The LDS often brag that they do not have a ‘paid’ clergy. This also means that they do not have a TRAINED clergy. Local leadership usually serves for about 4 years, and in addition to a 30-50 hour work week, the church demands ANOTHER 30+ hours of church work. Also, the lack of formal training means that these men are counseling, giving guidance, and acting as pastors with no real knowledge. The 4 year turnaround also leads to difficulty dealing with certain problems as the previous leader may have knowledge of a situation that the new leader will not.
And it is not true that they have NO paid clergy. Each of the ‘prophets’ and apostles (high leaders) sit on the board of directors for SEVERAL LDS owned companies at any given time. Consequently, they reap close to a million dollars each every year for attendance at one or two meetings. For more information and documentation on this, see Rocky Hulse “When Salt Lake City Calls”.
FAMILY TOGETHERNESS - The LDS love to tout their ‘family togetherness’ but their weeks are so full of church meetings that about 50 years ago, the leadership came up with ONE NIGHT A WEEK that there were no church meetings so families could have a family night (Called family home evening). Since wives are encouraged not to work, and families tend to be large, there are additional finanical pressures that fall upon the husband. Even with only ONE job, and a 40 hour work week, if he has a local leadership calling, then he is taken away from his home for an additional 30+ hours a week. That puts a huge strain on the family. If the LDS were truly family oriented, they would make sure that fathers were home more.
All of these things are EXTERNALS, what they often cite as ‘good fruit’. What is REALLY rotten about the LDS is it’s doctrine. That Christ is a created being, only one of 3 Gods and a lesser God at that. That the Cross means NOTHING except a method of death, that He REALLY atoned for sin in the Garden, that God had sex with Mary, that we can become Gods and saviors of our ancestors and so on (all of this and more can be documented upon request).
As Christians, we are called to judge false religions, those who seek to be equal to us, and to judge the behavior of others who claim to be believers in Christ Jesus.
It’s because he has an obsession. Imagine if he used all this energy for something good.
And Nana continues her antogonistic ways......
How Christian of you.
