My neighbor was buried today. He was a Jewish man of devout faith. Now mind you he was no saint, he had his share of issues just like anyone else. But in his later years, he became much more involved in the temple and study of the Torah. His Rabbi was at his home every other day and sometimes every day for study and company.
I looked all over for an answer to this question and I cannot find it. My friend did not accept Christ as his savior. As a Jew he did not accept Christian belief. Can anyone help me with what will happen to his soul? Will my prayer help? I have no experience with this sort of thing and I am heartbroken with the loss of this good man.
Psalm Chapter 2 1 Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, 3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us." 4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: 6 "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion." 7 "I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' " 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
Hey, I understand it’s strictly anecdotal..it sticks out in my head because I asked my Dad about it afterwards and he told me it was baloney...good people go to heaven and bad people don’t, he told me...magritte
anyone who does not eccept jesus, the answer is clear in the bible— if he didnt ECCEPT jesus (gods son) then you betrayed him in gods eyes already-..god did his part in sending his son here to die for you, so that we (MIGHT) be saved.. it is everyones CHOICE to eccept him or deny him— everybody has the same choice..jesus will cast out many saying “depart from me i never knew you” - it doesnt matter how good you were, what you done, ect.. if you do not eccept jesus as your savior, you are doomed..jesus always said, “ dont fear death itself, fear the one that has the power to throw you in hell fire after death, i say fear him”
Ditto, I will pray as well.
Yes. There have been many new covenants offered by God. You should read the Bible.
Individual covenant-Family covenant-Tribal covenant-Nation covenant-All humanity covenant (which is the “new” covenant).
When God makes a covenant with an individual, a family, a tribe, a nation, or in our case as Christians, the world through the New Covenant, it does not mean He breaks the old covenant. It still holds for those who were bound by it.
I say again. Read the Bible.
I’ve been a Catholic all my life an have never heard that...unless it was from a protestant. Sorry, I just don’t buy it. It has never been a part of Catholic theology because the Catholic Church has always stated that God fulfills his covenants.
Thank you. It does help. He believed in something different from me. But he did believe. It would have been very disrespectful of me to have challenged him in his belief at his advanced age.
That old nun that told me that didn’t have much use for Protestants either lol....magritte
What happens to the devout Jew assuming Lord Jesus is the messiah? God made some heavy promises with the Jew. I know for one that I do not know, especially when our Lord said no man comes to the father except through Christ. Thus, the issue is God’s early promises and Christ’s statement. I do not know.
You were a good friend, but do not worry....
As Jews, we know exactly what happens to our soul.
B’H
Well...that I understand LOL.
Thank you so much. I have been worrying so much for the last few days.
That is just how I believe. I do believe we have to accept Christ as our Savior - everybody’s invited - and I believe that people who do not know him while alive will meet him face to face at death and he will probably be pretty hard to reject. Purely thoughts out of my own head. I don’t profess to know.
You’re welcome.
We are living in the Dispensation of the Grace of God. Please read the book of Ephesians. When the Body of Christ is complete, the Dispensation of Grace will be brought to a conclusion and God will complete his prophetic program for the nation of Israel. The message of grace was given to Paul. Romans through Philemon. Hebrews through Revelation focuses on the ages to come when God will bring to fruition His purposes for Israel.
“As a Jew he did not accept Christian belief. Can anyone help me with what will happen to his soul?”
His soul goes right back to heaven for a rest (Sabbath) from the life he has lived on Earth. The body returns to the earth and the soul to heaven.
The story goes that before we incarnate as human beings God has to fool us into choosing to live here in human bodies on this very cold and hostile plane of existence. After you take your last breath you return to God to take a Sabbath rest. Once you are rested up you get to be fooled into coming back again!
“Will my prayer help?” This man who died has just returned to be in the presence of God again. Is the prayer for him or more for yourself? Are funerals more for the dead or for those still living? I think how I would pray for him is that when he comes back he will be an even better living example of what it is to live a life close to God. Pray for those whom he left behind.
I have far more doubts and questions than faith , but I do believe a sincere prayer is always heard and many times answered , often in unexpected ways .
Then doesn’t this mean that a Jew today would have to fulfill all the Laws of the Old Covenant, i.e. sacrifice an innocent animal (as symbolic of the coming Messiah) for his sins at the Temple?
The Old Covenant with the Jews only was not abolished, but fulfilled at Pentecost, in the idea that the Law is written on the hearts of those who believe in God’s chosen Son.
A better thing has come with the ability to live in the Spirit of the Law — desiring to keep the commandments for example, instead of being threatened by them —
Being Kosher today seems futile unless, as Paul wrote, one fulfills every aspect of the Old Covenant to the letter.
But since the Temple Curtain where the holiest of the holies was, for Temple sacrifice for the Jews, since it was miraculously torn (do the research on the curtain... it was four inches thick of laminated linen) since it was torn when Jesus died on the Cross...
(Meaning God’s spirit no longer was in the Temple...but poured out on Jew and Gentile alike at Pentecost)
... I have no idea how a Jew today who rejects Christ’s sacrifice for their personal sins could be saved. I was led to the Lord by Messianic Jews and do not take any pleasure at all at this thought, in fact have cried rivers for some unbelieving Jewish friends.
Trying to stuff God back into the Temple, resurrecting all the Temple ritual, stoning people for the sins, etc., etc., there is no way that someone can live up to the standards of the Old Covenant.
Though the Bible speaks of “the man of sin” in the End Times who will apparently try to go for it.
My brother married a nice jewish girl. His father in-law was sick and died. I always prayed for them. When I went to the the service this butterfly flew around the whole place as this young rabbi spoke. I had the peace of God all over me every other person was talking about it. Now, how he made his peace. I have no idea. But I know The Holy Spirit. Same peace in a Christian service. MARK 16:16 “ He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth Not shall be damned.” Does this mean a Mentally handicap child or adult[down syndome or mentally retard} understand this. He can only hold you what you Do Know, not what you Do Not Know. God can see what is inside the mind if a person just doesn’t get it. Then that person is judged according what he/she does understand. Now there are people who do understand and they do not care. I have met them. But if most people went to hell doesn’t the devil win. Why would God make us if he already knows that most are going to hell. I don’t know about you but my Christ is a winner. Most make it by His Grace! Praise Jesus!
