My neighbor was buried today. He was a Jewish man of devout faith. Now mind you he was no saint, he had his share of issues just like anyone else. But in his later years, he became much more involved in the temple and study of the Torah. His Rabbi was at his home every other day and sometimes every day for study and company.
I looked all over for an answer to this question and I cannot find it. My friend did not accept Christ as his savior. As a Jew he did not accept Christian belief. Can anyone help me with what will happen to his soul? Will my prayer help? I have no experience with this sort of thing and I am heartbroken with the loss of this good man.
Throughout salvation history God expands His covenants (man, tribe, nation, world). That in no way means he breaks His covenants. In fact for God to break His covenant would mean he lied.
Guess you think God is a liar.
I have my beliefs but I know one thing for sure. No one has ever complained afterward.

Magritte, do you think the church should send out missionaries?
If so, why?
I don’t believe you.
What happens to Mormons....Buddists....Muslims....etc, etc???
I could not have said it better myself. It is also what I truly believe.
Geesh, Jesus said he was the NEW COVENANT....I BELIEVE HIM...do you??
Reminds me of a story about a guy who went to a doctor with a complaint that it hurt if he turned a certain way, and the doctor told him, "well, don't do that."
God is patient.
Take comfort that God loves us all and would never renege on a promise.
I would recommend this book for a more theological response than I could present here. It is an amazing book:

From the Bhagavad Gita; explaining the nature of the eternal soul:
There is not permanent existence for the body, and no cessation of existence for the soul. Those who can see the true nature of things see these conclusions about the body and soul.
Know that the soul which pervades the body is indestructable. No one can destroy that which is indestructable.
The soul is never born, nor does it ever die. Neither was it born in the past, nor will it be born in the future. It has no creation in the past, present or future, and no destruction in the past, present or future, and is therefore eternal. It is most ancient but not subject to ageing. It is not killed when the body is killed.
You don’t REALLY know that your friend didn’t accept Jesus at his death;s door.....that’s why we are not allowed to judge who went to heaven and who didn’t (EXCEPT someone who lays down his life for someone, and that is especially true of women who die in childbirth...imho...they a STRAIGHT TICKET TO HEAVEN).
Only God knows. God is real (this I believe); religion is manmade (this is a simple fact); and religions have been corrupt from the get-go, from top to bottom, inside and out, and will never be anything different.
Ah yes, I mistook your meaning as "manifesting in" someone else. My mistake.
"Manifesting as" is what I - and you - meant.
Manifesting as what - LOL, indeed, that is the question!
I have had personal contact with God. I think he saved my life, not because I believed (I didn’t, especially. I’m a very cerebral, rational type), but because I’m intense about treating others right and emphasizing that with my children. If your friend was a good man who treated others right, God will take good care of his soul, nomatter what he believed. And I think that should be true for any person, of any religion, of any culture, on any place on earth. Rest your mind, my friend.
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
So, if your friend went to heaven, it was through Christ.
The believing Jews of the Old Testament were saved because they believed in the Messiah that was to come. The Jews of the New Testament were saved because they believed that the Messiah was among them.
The Jews of now are saved just the way everybody else is. By believing in Jesus.
There aren’t “two ways” of salvation, an old way and a new way. There is one Way. There always has been.
As for your beloved friend, trust the Lord Jesus with his soul. God does not make mistakes. He doesn’t make mistakes with the Arctic people another FReeper mentioned; He doesn’t make mistakes with you or me; He is perfect. And so the exact right outcome for your friend is assured.
Jesus wept at the death of his friend Lazarus and thus we know he has compassion for you in your loss.
“What happens to the soul of a jew upon death”
It causes people to worry.
me either.
That means He didn't return to earth yet ... LOL ... That's an easy one to solve ... :-)
When He returns to earth it won't be something that anyone can miss. He will be going to war against Israel's enemies and He will take control of the governments of all the nations in the world.
He will set up a ruling, world-wide government, ruling as the "World King" over all nations.
Since you don't see that, as we sit here discussing the issue, you can be assured He hasn't returned yet ... :-)
Revelation Chapter 19 1 After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! 2 For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her." 3 Again they said, "Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!" 4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, "Amen! Alleluia!" 5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!" 6 And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! 7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready." 8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. 9 Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God." 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." 11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. 17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18 that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great." 19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. 20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh. Revelation Chapter 20 1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Hey Persevero...of course, Christians believe that they are saving souls by sending out missionaries and should do so, despite the fact that I think accepting Christianity is a wrong turn from the truth of G-d...being a Noachide, however, I hope Christianity in the long term will turn back to its roots and all people will find the Torah once again...magritte
This is a great thread!
Thanks everyone!
