Things Mormon women can do to reduce stress
Mormon Times ^ | May 5, 2010 | Sharon Haddock

PROVO, Utah -- The over-scheduled, over-involved and over-whelmed Mormon woman needs to do two things to de-stress, said two speakers at the recent Women's Conference at BYU: simply life and ask for God's help. "God placed us here to succeed," Sarah Westerberg said. "But mortality will cause stress. It's a natural byproduct."

SNIP

Her advice included...letting go of what cannot be controlled and ridding life of perfectionism.

She suggested adding two words to a working vocabulary: "Who cares?"

It might be appropriate, but given the title wouldn’t it be better if it were designated a “mormon caucus” thread?

Naw...those threads are primarily used as a back-handed way to insult Christians in a manner that precludes any rebuttal from the Christian.

Occasionally there will be one extolling mormon superiority or posting some really arcane doctrine, both of which manage to be insulting to Christian belief.

What lies Rusty? What lies indeed? Are you saying that the words of your leaders posted here are lies? With that I would agree.
As a side note finally had my strawberry waffle this morning.

I think the stress is related to keeping the future god happy so they get “called up” and not left behind

I do object to Polygamy, but I have the intellectual honesty to admit that we worship the God of Polygamists (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob). So ... apparently, it must not be as evil as you say it is.

I happen to have an ancestor who was killed by Indians while immigrating to Idaho. A brother-in-law stepped in and married the widow as a second wife and raised her children as his own rather than letting her die on the prarie ... is this the kind of evil polygamy which you were referring to?

If polygamy is so completely evil, maybe you should try a religion who’s God has not supported polygamists in the past!

I’m just asking for a little intellectual honesty from you .... is that so hard?

Yet...you stopped by, made a comment, left a cryptic abbreviation (without explaining the meaning) and still said no thanks?

And you just THOUGHT mormons were against speaking in tongues!

* History of the Church 1:295-297, November 1832: "About the 8th of November I received a visit from Elders Joseph Young, Brigham Young, and Heber C. Kimball of Mendon, Monroe county, New York. They spent four or five days at Kirtland, during which we had many interesting moments. At one of our interviews, Brother Brigham Young and John P. Greene spoke in tongues, which was the first time I had heard this gift among the brethren; others also spoke, and I [Joseph Smith] received the gift myself."

* History of the Church 7:557, December 1845, in the Nauvoo temple: "After the dancing had continued about an hour, several excellent songs were sung, in which several of the brethren and sisters joined. The `Upper California' was sung by Erastus Snow, after which I [Brigham Young] called upon Sister Whitney who stood up and invoking the gift of tongues, sang a beautiful song of Zion in tongues. The interpretation was given by her husband, Bishop Whitney, and me, it related to our efforts to build this house to the privilege we now have of meeting in it, our departure shortly to the country of the Lamanites, their rejoicing when they hear the gospel and of the ingathering of Israel."

Well, that is a hoot trying on your part to argue from intellect, and apparently a complete lack of historical context. I really needed a good hardy laugh this morning. Thanks.

LOL just when I thought I’d seen all that anti-Mormons could come up with....

Anyone curious about the truth regarding the LDS faith do yourself a favor and don’t look just on this board. It is infested with anti-Mormon propagandists with an agenda that does not preclude quite a bit of deception.

Check out some other sources and even talk to some LDS people yourself. You won’t find the truth on this board. You do want the truth don’t you?

You are so desperate to go back to 2007 LOL

(Oh, that's right...I was citing Mitt Romney's words for May, 2007...how "careless" of me...you are actually correct...because whatever Mitt Romney said in May 2007 wouldn't probably apply to May 2010...for the great "waffler" has no doubt "waffled" on those words since then...thank you for realizing the temporal nature of Romney's words...and correcting me in the process to that reality!!!)

ROTFL!!!!! :)

_________________________________________

Yes thats evil...

Are you saying if she had refused to be his mistress/concubine, he would have just left her and her children to die on the praire ???

Are you saying the only way he would help a widow and her children was to sin in polygamy ???

Are you saying he was not an honorable man ???...(There is nothing honorable about polygamy)

Are you saying he lusted after his neighbor’s wife ??? (Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife Exodus 20:17)

Are you saying he committed adultery ??? (Thou shalt not commit adultery Exodus 20:14)

You did say he married the sister of his wife ??? (You said brother-in-law not brother) (Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living. Leviticus 18:18, Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother. Leviticus 18:16)

I’ve been planting and transplanting roses...

The Rose of Sharon hates polygamy aznd He never sanctioned the evil practice..

Whatever was said in the 1800’s...

Uh, look again, Resty. You were addressing Teppe's comments in post #27 about Lds accusations about Christian "apostates." I responded in post #68 to that, citing two Lds apostles in our generation. In fact, two of the comments were made at April General Conferences by your apostles (Oaks & McConkie) in 1995 & 2005, respectively.

You're not contending vs. what your own apostles have shared in general conferences in the past 5-15 years, are you, Resty?

Anyone curious about the truth regarding the LDS faith do yourself a favor and don’t look just on this board. It is infested with anti-Mormon propagandists with an agenda that does not preclude quite a bit of deception.

We are awaiting your examples of "deception", along with sources proving this deception from official LDS OR Biblical sources please.

Check out some other sources and even talk to some LDS people yourself.

Do check out other sources, but be sure the mormons you talk to are themselves informed of mormon doctrine. There are many, many members who are not so informed due to the mormon practice of presenting "milk before meat" and hiding much of the arcane and non-Biblical doctrine actually on record.

Those who check the links provided with the bulk of posts on "these threads" will find the links lead to official mormon history, published words of previous leaders, the official books claiming mormon doctrine or in many cases the official church website.

Click on the link following for actual sourced quotes, many in the words of mormon leaders themselves.

Well now...you made the allegations of falsehoods being posted, please identify them and offer corrective rebuttals.

As to your plea for searching for the “truth”...I offer this, yet again...

You’re absolutely correct! Nothing new here from the mormons or the mormon defenders. I offer the following response AGAIN!

We’ve been waiting for you to post a rebuttal, any rebuttal that prove(s) your points. To date, you and other Mormons have not. The internet age has caught the LdS church in a vise and is slowly turning the spindle. Each day, more and more information comes to light. The truth can no longer be hidden from reasonable people.

I posted this once before and do so again and again...

I will preface the following with this; most mormons are good and decent people, like any other group of people, they have their bad apples. I am married to a mormon, a very active mormon. Works in the temple, so that should tell you that she is obeying the tenets of her faith.

For those who have been encouraged to research the LdS religion, I will tell you this as an apostate, a member of the Melchizidek Priesthood, temple recommend holder, sealed to my wife in the Washington D.C. temple, an active and fully participating member of the LdS for over 6 years.

A man whose eyes were finally opened because of the efforts of the very people on this board who have been accused of lying and attacking a religion that many of them know intimately because they were members at one time. Some were born into it, having family history that traces back to the founding of mormonism.

It goes without saying that the basis for the religion is JS. One must have complete faith in him and what he purported was the truth. Yet, for reasonable people, this is impossible because as we now know, he was a liar and a deceiver. A less than common manipulator, thief and adulterer. He took those traits to a whole other level.

If you subscribe to the belief that JS was an honorable, chaste and virtuous man, then one has been mislead. He was none of those, in fact, he was the antithesis of those values and morals.

It is well known that the LdS contradict themselves in their scripture, in their teachings and in their doctrine. They can’t reconcile their doctrine with the Bible, though they try, because in their Articles of Faith, they denigrate the Bible with the disclaimer “As far as it is translated correctly”. So from the beginning, they marginalized the Bible and its teachings in order to put in place their own perverted religion.

One need only look at those simple facts and it should be readily apparent that there is no truth to be found within mormonism. It is unbiblical and unchristian. Where in the Bible can one find the scripture that states that men can become gods? Where in the Bible can one find that men are to be rulers over kingdoms with a harem of women giving birth to “spirit babies” for eternity?

Sounds suspiciously like islam doesn’t it? The promise of 72 virgins comes to mind. Promise an earthly man eternal sex and you’re going to have quite a following.

For the lurkers or any other poster, I encourage you to please do as was recommended on this thread. Research mormonism, research the teachings, the doctrine, the history. Do so objectively, but do so by comparing a conventional KJV of the Bible to the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible to see the significant differences between the two. Do so by asking your pastor, church leader or a person you trust that has a knowledge of scripture. One you can trust to be reasonable and reasonably unbiased in helping you to discover the truth.

Don’t do so based on how nice a mormon is. Do so based on your desire for Biblical truth and your eternal salvation.
