Things Mormon women can do to reduce stress
Mormon Times ^ | May 5, 2010 | Sharon Haddock

PROVO, Utah -- The over-scheduled, over-involved and over-whelmed Mormon woman needs to do two things to de-stress, said two speakers at the recent Women's Conference at BYU: simply life and ask for God's help. "God placed us here to succeed," Sarah Westerberg said. "But mortality will cause stress. It's a natural byproduct."

SNIP

Her advice included...letting go of what cannot be controlled and ridding life of perfectionism.

She suggested adding two words to a working vocabulary: "Who cares?"

Even Maimonides himself said that the Torah maintains that polygamous unions from a strictly legal point of view are permissible.

The God of the Christian bible has never “condoned” polygamy

If you think He has then post the Biblical scripture...

You are a bit behind the times there teppe. You did hear that God became Flesh and dwelt among us a while back and changed a lot of the rules.

It was in all the papers...

So the answer is yes, in the past, but not now.

(BTW that is what we call "answering a question" you guys ought to try it...)

Nana !! You're applying modern definitions to ancient times. Adultery then was when a married woman had sex outside marriage. Polygamy was not considered adultery, but if the married head of the family had sex with a married woman that wasn't one of his wives...

Leviticus 20:11 "If a man commits adultery with a married woman, committing adultery with an other man's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death."

Hey Nana...not Mormon here, obviously...lol....but I enjoy Torah-related threads..the ban on polygamy in Judaism is pretty common knowledge, but here's a link for ya...

About the year 1000, Rabbi Gershom ben Judah issued an edict (Herem de-Rabbenu Gershom) which was considered authoritative among Ashkenazi Jews. This edict substantially prohibited plural marriage. One exception was allowed: A man could marry more than one wife if he obtained the special permission of 100 rabbis in 3 countries. Originally, Gershom's ban was limited in time to the year 1260, however it has continued to be accepted by Jews of Europe and the Western World to this day.

...this board...is infested with anti-Mormon propagandists...quite a bit of deception

I have yet, in all these so-called "ANTI-MORMON" threads, found a Mormon defender who could point out any deception. Not LIKING having the light shine on the truth (or rather the lies) of this pseudo-religion doesn't make it propaganda.

Well, if Smith had sex with MARRIED women outside of his own plural marriage, he would have been in deep doodoo in the years of early Judaism. Obviously, Leviticus 20:11 (along with many other penalties) waned over the years, seeming extreme to many. However, the laws intentions were to keep the social order...which it did at the time !

Even if we were to concede your point (which I don't), to apply biblical polygamy to some of Joseph Smith's shenanigans is downright chicanery. Approximately eleven of Smith's "plural wives" were already married -- and remain married during Smith's "nuptials" with them.

By any definition you may want to pull out of your poly-polygamy hat, that's adultery.

It's when Mormons begin to come face-to-face that their founder was an serial adulterer, that the rest of the relational and spiritual defrauding Smith engaged in becomes clearer in focus.

Obviously you have limits on the depth of your biblical scholarship because of your Christian background. If you get time, you should read a bit of Maimonides and other great Jewish scholars. They will give you some good information and context on the “Old Testament” ... maybe give you some insight on subjects such as this. Otherwise, you may just stick with using the “New Testament” only, which you seem more familiar with...magritte

Joey Smith was in deep doodoo in the early 1800s for “having sex with MARRIED women INSIDE of his own plural marriage”

Many of the mormon men WENT TO PRISON for just that...

PLURAL MARRIAGE...AKA BIGAMY...the legal term at that time was “unlawful habitation” a feloneous crime..

Thats why Joey Smith kept hiding out and moving around the country...

Two years after Joey Smith died Briggy Young moved to Mexico (Utah territory) to get away from the US laws against bigamy...
