Pope Benedict to deliver 'intense' message during Fatima visit
EWTN News ^ | 5/5/2010

Posted on 05/05/2010 10:48:55 AM PDT by markomalley

"Fatima is a particularly significant place for this Pope," said Vatican spokesman Fr. Federico Lombardi on Tuesday, noting that it was also a destination for two former Popes. The Holy Father has a thorough knowledge of the history of the Marian sanctuary, he added.

Fr. Lombardi held a press conference at the Vatican to prepare the media for the Pope's next trip out of the Vatican. He will be visiting Portugal from May 11-14.

The spokesman referred to the Pope's stop in Fatima on May 13 as the highlight and "heart" of the upcoming four-day trip to Portugal, according to Vatican Radio. But, he pointed out, Benedict XVI will not be the first Pope to visit the Marian shrine.

Two other Pontiffs have been to Fatima. In 1967, the sanctuary hosted Paul VI, and John Paul II visited in 1982, 1991 and 2000, at which time the visionaries Jacinta and Francesco were beatified.

The Portuguese shrine is not unfamiliar to Pope Benedict, since as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger extensively studied the message of Fatima. Fr. Lombardi said on Tuesday that the Pope has been involved with history of the Marian sanctuary in a "very deep, personal way."

It was him, for example, who was called upon to give a theological perspective when the third secret of Fatima was made public in 2000.

The Vatican spokesman said that the Holy Father will also deliver an intense message during his Fatima visit. Upon his arrival at the sanctuary on May 12, he will remember John Paul II and the 29th anniversary of the assassination attempt that nearly took his life on May 13, 1981.

This visit marks the Holy Father's 15th Apostolic Journey abroad in his five years and is his first to Portugal as Pope.

During today's general audience, the Holy Father greeted the people of Portugal in their language, telling them that he will be there this coming weekend at the invitation of the president of the nation and the episcopal conference.

He said he was "happy to be able to visit the 'land of Holy Mary'" on the 10th anniversary of the beatification of the shepherd children.

According to Portuguese press reports, local police are planning for a cumulative total of 450,000 people at the celebrations in Lisbon, Fatima and Portugal during the four-day visit.

Neither one.

Just the usual

Roman Catholic et al rabid clique sort of

KILL THE MESSENGER

effort to turn FR’s Rel Forum into a sub-office of the Vatican.

Or is it okay to have this kind of poster if it’s one that’s more equal than others?

OF COURSE NOT!

Everyone on FR knows that

MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS IS THE EXCLUSIVE DOMAIN

of the overweening Maryolatry fan brigade.

I don’t think so.
Take this discussion out of the religion forum and find any poster with a join date in 2006 and no posting history.

On any other forum, that person would be called as a troll or a sockpuppet. I suspect that if that poster were on the other side of the argument, he/she would be called on it here by many people.

Yeah.

Personally, I think the whole priest scandal thing has turned into microscopic particles of beaten dead horses.

All the significant components on all sides have been flailed at ad nauseum with far more heat than light and to an increasingly boring . . . errr . . . finish.

BTW, RM,

Do you know if JohnRob has plans to try and fix the bug on referring to earlier post #’s. Particularly when on earlier pages. They seem to rarely GO THERE these days. They dont’ even seem to go to the right page/section.

Perhaps I’m mixing OuterShip and Roamer_1 up in terms of their geographic locations.

However, IIRC I’ve phoned at least one of them at their distant location and the area code was congruent with their locations.

I’m sure you could check on their ISP as well.

I think the sock-puppet accusation is mean-spirited, off the wall, underhanded, and just plain wrong.

However, I’m for letting it continue. Beyond making it personal, it does show certain inclinations . . . such as the habit of

KILLING THE MESSENGER vs dealing with the message.

I’d think the plastic Jesus and plastic Mary receipts alone would be considerable.

I bet the plastic etc Mary trinket receipts far outweight

the plastic etc. Jesus trinket receipts.

Gads the nastiness level is incredible today . . .

FWIW,

MadDawg gave and sent me a very kosher official copy. I have barely begun to read it.

It’s not my favorite of the several books I’m working on at present.

So, personally, I think you can take that allegation, insinuation and wrap it in a white hanky and stuff it in a votive candle holder somewhere as a memento to today’s thread nastiness.

Sheesh.

“Are you arguing that Mary is NOT the mother of Jesus, or that she is but we shouldn’t say so?”

There is a big difference between saying that Mary is the mother of Jesus and saying that Mary is the mother of the Body of Christ. Do you truly not understand that or are you just trying to be facetious?

“But that doesn’t mean that she has authority over her adult son.”

Then why say it? Why write thousands of words and millions of titles for Mary? If it is agreed that Mary has no special place different than any other Christian, then why do all this?

The following advice is IMHO only...

Don't fall victim to asymmetric warfare by these monomaniacal anti-Catholics.

Their inane posting is a form of strategic denial; it draws away the time, efforts and attention of good people who should not be wasting valuable time debunking utter and complete nonsense.

Take a real hard look at the duties of your state in life and ask yourself whether the time you are devoting to debating UFOlogists is truly doing God's Will.

Not every question deserves an answer. Not every person who smiles at you has your best interests at heart.

And not every post on this Forum deserves a response.
