Obama Bares His Soul for Easter Event
Beliefnet ^ | April 6, 2010 | DANIEL BURKE

Posted on 04/06/2010 7:41:39 PM PDT by NoCmpromiz

President Obama bared his soul before a cross section of Christian leaders at a White House Easter breakfast on Tuesday (April 6), where he spoke publicly of his faith in redemption through Jesus in his most personal terms since becoming president.

"We are awed by the grace he showed even to those who would have killed him," Obama said, pausing occasionally to glance at written notes. "We are thankful for the sacrifice he gave for the sins of humanity. And we glory in the promise of redemption in the resurrection."

Obama said the Easter breakfast, along with a recent Passover Seder and a Ramadan dinner last fall, was part of his pledge to make the White House "a place where all people would feel welcome." Presidential aides also said it gave Obama the opportunity to thank Christian leaders for their community service.

"For those who are wondering or have doubts about whether he is authentically Christian, I think today's message puts all doubts to rest," said the Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, another Houston megachurch pastor who attended Tuesday's breakfast.

Obama's father was a Kenyan Muslim-turned-atheist, his mother an agnostic, and his Indonesian stepfather an unorthodox Muslim. Caldwell, who is close to Obama and his predecessor, President George W. Bush, said he is galled by the number of Americans -- one in 10 according to a 2009 poll -- who refuse to believe Obama is Christian.

Caldwell was also one of about 20 black clergy -- from denominational heads to pastors who knew Obama when he was a community organizer in Chicago -- who gathered with the president privately before the breakfast.

U-2012>Yah'shua was citing His Law to all people.

Not according to Scripture:

Matthew 15:21-28

Mat 15:24 But He answered and said,
"I was sent only to the lost sheep
of the house of Israel."
Do you not believe that you have been grafted into Abraham ?

Only those who are grafted into Abraham have been chosen.

This explained by Paul in Romans 11.

Paul explains who is grafted into whom
and what happens to those who have been grafted in
but are prideful and who reject the root.

When you guys get up in the morning and drive off to work; make SURE you follow the speed limit. The one in JERUSALEM!

Good late Morning Elsie. I am sorry I missed you last night, just kinda gave out.

Yep, gonna get busy here to try to find the oldest known original text of the scriptures, then try to find someone to translate them for me, cause my NIV and other modern translations, are not going tell me about those traffic laws, along with what to eat, what to wear, how to cook, where and when to go to the synagogue.

How we have all managed to survive is beyond me. Must have been on that wide road to destruction along with most of the Body of Christ and just didn't know it.
Christ apparently isn't big enough to care for His sheep with all that rod and staff stuff. Guess He lied when He said He would. (major sarc alert)

This is belated, I know, but look at what else they had at the "Easter Egg Roll" at the WH... See kids - Easter has nothing to do with religion or being the holiest Christian holiday of the year - now let's talk Science!

I wonder if they'll have "opposite day" for Rhamadan?

OK, I am not an Obama fan, and looked closely at what was publicly available about his profession of faith. Until now I have not believed that we shared the fellowship of those who profess belief in Jesus of Nazareth, the risen Christ. Having read and watched the remarks, I now believe otherwise.

1) He calls himself particularly blessed to welcome Christians as brothers and sisters (distinguishing the visits from non-Messianic Jews and Muslims).

2) He calls Jesus Lord and Savior. He calls Him the risen Savior.

3) He acknowledges that the promise of the Resurrection is a call to action.

4) He calls the day of celebrating His Resurrection a holy day.

5) He speaks of Jesus’ sacrifice as a historical fact, following the narrative of the Gospels.

6) He specifically mentions the Word of God speaking to him.

7) He confesses the sins of selfishness and pride.

8) He professes the redeeming power of hope in the Resurrection.

9) He quotes the prophet Micah, who, of course prophesied that Jesus would be born in Nazareth.

Could he have said more? Sure, but many Christians would have been uncomfortable saying even what he said.

Could he have been lying? Sure, but that is between him and God.

Are we to hold him accountable? Yes, as brothers and sisters, of course. But encourage him as well - not in the things he does wrong, but in the things he does right.

But I will no longer say he does not profess the risen Christ.

Read for yourself:

“One of my hopes upon taking this office was to make the White House a place where all people would feel welcome. To that end, we held a Seder here to mark the first Passover. We held an Iftar here with Muslim Americans to break the daily fast during Ramadan. And today, I’m particularly blessed to welcome you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, for this Easter breakfast.

With us are Christian leaders from all across America, men and women who lead small-town churches and big-city congregations, and major organizations in service of others; folks whose sermons are heard and whose examples are followed by millions all across the country. So I wanted to join you for a brief moment today to continue the Easter celebration of our risen Savior, and to reflect on the work to which His promise calls all of us.

I can’t tell any of you anything about Easter that you don’t already know. I can’t shed light on centuries of scriptural interpretation or bring any new understandings to those of you who reflect on Easter’s meaning each and every year and each and every day. But what I can do is tell you what draws me to this holy day and what lesson I take from Christ’s sacrifice and what inspires me about the story of the resurrection.

For even after the passage of 2,000 years, we can still picture the moment in our mind’s eye. The young man from Nazareth marched through Jerusalem; object of scorn and derision and abuse and torture by an empire. The agony of crucifixion amid the cries of thieves. The discovery, just three days later, that would forever alter our world — that the Son of Man was not to be found in His tomb and that Jesus Christ had risen.

We are awed by the grace He showed even to those who would have killed Him. We are thankful for the sacrifice He gave for the sins of humanity. And we glory in the promise of redemption in the resurrection.

And such a promise is one of life’s great blessings, because, as I am continually learning, we are, each of us, imperfect. Each of us errs — by accident or by design. Each of us falls short of how we ought to live. And selfishness and pride are vices that afflict us all.

It’s not easy to purge these afflictions, to achieve redemption. But as Christians, we believe that redemption can be delivered — by faith in Jesus Christ. And the possibility of redemption can make straight the crookedness of a character; make whole the incompleteness of a soul. Redemption makes life, however fleeting here on Earth, resound with eternal hope.

Of all the stories passed down through the gospels, this one in particular speaks to me during this season. And I think of hanging — watching Christ hang from the cross, enduring the final seconds of His passion. He summoned what remained of His strength to utter a few last words before He breathed His last breath.

“Father,” He said, “into your hands I commit my spirit.” Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. These words were spoken by our Lord and Savior, but they can just as truly be spoken by every one of us here today. Their meaning can just as truly be lived out by all of God’s children.

So, on this day, let us commit our spirit to the pursuit of a life that is true, to act justly and to love mercy and walk humbly with the Lord. And when we falter, as we will, let redemption — through commitment and through perseverance and through faith — be our abiding hope and fervent prayer.”

I don't think Paul went to a RCC and watch a "priest" perform magic.

Neither do I!

Do you believe in three gods as some cults do ?

No I do not! There IS only one true God:

Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:

Hear, שמע shama` O Israel: ישראל Yisra'el The LORD 8 יהוה Yĕhovah our God אלהים 'elohiym [is] one אחד 'echad LORD: יהוה Yĕhovah

Besides Him there is no savior. Jesus is the LORD God Almighty incarnate, God with us! Amen!

Great !

There is no scriptural support for RCC priests and their magic show.

There is no scriptural support for RCC priests and their magic show.

That's because the RCC did not exist when the scriptures were written.

You know "U" I have spent some time to go back over what all you have written on this thread the last day or so. I really did try to make sense of the scriptures you have posted to see if I had missed something you may have had to offer.

I have about come to the conclusion you are closing your eyes, then randomly opening the Bible, and placing your finger wherever it may fall, then BINGO!

Please tell me this is not true.

I understand where you are coming from, and believe me, I want that too. But I am having a difficult time with the words and the fruits of this man. We can pray of course.
Please remember the demons in hell know Jesus is Lord and they tremble.

You absolutely correct.

The Roman "church" was founded in 325 CE at Nicea,
where anti-semitism was codified and scripture was
replaced with syncretism.

Actually, what they know is that there is one God - James 2:19. What Jesus’ brother was saying is that faith without works is dead. We may argue about the vitality of Obama’s faith, but, then again, whose can’t we?

What demons do know is that Jesus has power over them, and that even they are to serve Him. This is what Jesus found so amazing about the faith of the centurion. I don’t think they call Him Lord and Savior, or call us our brothers, or have hope in redemption through His Resurrection.

Right. This fact that is shattering with cults and false churches, that Jesus Christ is God, there is one God. Some cults and false faiths do not know as much as the demons.

Yes, in context, James is speaking of works and faith, but he still stated the fact about demons. That fact is upheld through out the scriptures.
I don't have time here, but I can give you the scriptures I feel back this up.

We may argue about the vitality of Obama’s faith, but, then again, whose can’t we?

No arguing here, because I don't really know. It is not my place to deal with his heart, that belongs to the Lord. Thank God. I don't like what he does and I am not comfortable listening to what he says.

I hope the Lord does have mercy on him. He sure did for Saul/Paul, and on all of us for that matter.

Blessings.
