Okay okay already! Yes I was misinformed, I watched the show and I have no doubt the Shroud is real. I even now believe the Shroud was at Constantinople prior to being at Lirey, France. The Hungarian Pray Manuscript which shows the “L” shaped burn marks was fascinating.

The shroud to be on display in Turin from April 10th - May 30th. For other interesting discussion, refer to swordmaker's posts beginning at post #60. He or she runs the Shroud of Turin ping list and is more knowledgeable about the research and scientific findings than anyone I've come across.

was rolled into a kerchief like form and used to bind his jaw AROUND the face... not over the face.

But your cohorts claim there is an identical facial image on the 'original' facecloth as on the shroud...It's gettin' harder to know which spin to disbelieve the most...

I don't remember what channel it was on, but there was a show about one of the scientists who worked on the Shroud, and had concluded, from the Carbon 14 dating, that it was from the Middle Ages. He was contacted by a couple who had read about the data, but started doing some research on their own. They found out about how some nuns in the Middle Ages had done some repair work on the Shroud, and as part of that work, had done some French re-weaving. This involved weaving new threads into the old so that you couldn't tell, without taking it apart, that the work had been done.

The scientist went back to the pictures of the samples, and realized that the couple was right, and that the Carbon 14 dating was likely incorrect, because it was picking up the readings off the newer threads. He thought that new testing should be done, but he died of cancer before anything could occur.

There are samples of the Shroud, from an area that was not part of the re-weaving, though, that could be Carbon dated.

The carbon dating has been proven wrong

Can someone give me a link to this proof?

I watched the History Channel show and they only explained how or why the carbon dating might be wrong, not that it had been proven wrong.

Okay, proved it to my satisfaction. The lead scientist from the sturp testing convinced me it was in error.

I'm a "He" and thanks for the compliment... but I will bow to Freeper "Shroudie" for the honor of knowing more than I do. Shroudie is Daniel R. Porter, the man who was most frequently, other than Barrie Schwortz, seen talking about the history and science of the Shroud on this last week's new special... Check out his websites:

No one that I know of has made such a claim... Not ONE.

Perhaps you are thinking of Veronica Veil? The cloth that Jesus supposedly pressed his face to on the Via Dolorosa and miraculously left an impression of his visage on the maiden's veil? There are three cloths that claim that title... and none of them are in the running for the face cloth from the tomb.

That is an entirely different cloth and different provenance than the tomb grave clothes than the Sudarium of Oviedo, which is the so called "face cloth" of the tomb. It has blood stains that match with over 100 points of congruence with the blood stains on the Shroud, but no image.

I remember reading something about that situation quite a while back, as well.

In the program that I saw recently, they mentioned the C-14 dating dilemma, also. They talked about how humans handling the Shroud during the Middle Ages had contaminated it.

and they are limited as to who gets to even see the originals

What's the protocol for taking the Shroud out of it's box?

When was the last time it was taken out for scientific study?

What percentage of time does it spend in the lab?

Me too. I had doubts, but no longer.

The part that made the hairs on my neck stand up was when they spoke of the beliefs of the Gnostics and how this seems to jibe with the scientific evidence obtained from the database of info in the shroud. When they ever showed how the light from a scanner could reproduce an image like that...I wept.
It humbled me to think of such awesome power. And that it has been right in front of our eyes the whole time and yet...there are those who do not believe.

i am going to get the DVD, someone was talking during parts of the program, do you recall the part with the drawing that showed the linen texture and the holes and i believe that drawing dated fairly far back. When the eyes opened on the 3d figure, i really felt a chill.
