US Jewish leaders denounce Catholic sermon

American Jewish leaders on Friday denounced a Vatican official's likening of anti-Catholicism during the church's escalating abuse crisis to "collective violence" against Jews, but predicted it would not deal a severe blow to the two faiths' often-strained relationship. "What a sad irony this would be on Good Friday, where so much of the anti-Semitism was brought about by the church against Jews," said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League. "Anti-Semitism was pogroms, inquisitions, expulsions that led to death ... What a grotesque comparison." During a Good Friday sermon, Pope Benedict XVI's personal preacher compared accusations against the pope and the Catholic church in the abuse scandal to "collective violence" suffered by the Jews. The priest, the Rev. Raniero Cantalamessa, quoted a letter from a Jewish friend who wrote that the accusations reminded him of the "more shameful aspects of anti-Semitism."

"During a Good Friday sermon, Pope Benedict XVI's personal preacher compared accusations against the pope and the Catholic church in the abuse scandal to "collective violence" suffered by the Jews.

The priest, the Rev. Raniero Cantalamessa, quoted a letter from a Jewish friend who wrote that the accusations reminded him of the "more shameful aspects of anti-Semitism.""

I have to agree that equating anything, especially criticism over sexual scandals, to the Holocaust, is a non-starter and in flagrantly poor taste.

The first two paragraphs are from the story. Where does the priest mention the Holocost?

The complaint leveled at the Catholic Church is that they are all complicit in a cover-up in the molestation of children by a small number of homosexuals. Are we allowed to make the analogous complaint that all Jews are part of the Soros cabal that manipulates money on an international scale? I gurantee you that Abe Foxman will come out swinging that would be anti-semitic. It's analogous to the left wing attack on the church. Abe Foxman, a commited leftist, won't permit the analogy.

U-2012> The Roman "church" started it's anti-semitism
at the council of Nicea, when it it rejected
YHvH commanded Feasts and His Chosen People
and substituted them with Pagan feasts and anti-semitism.

Friend, it is called the “new covenant”, that is, the feasts of the Lamb of God.

Thoses feasts were only meant for the Jewish people only.

That is, in the Hebrew scriptures.

First there is only ONE YHvH; our Elohim.

All of the Word of G-d is for our understanding.

I would start by reading Romans
discussing Who is Grafted into Whom.

Very specifically: Romans 11 where he discusses who is grafted into whom.

NAsbU Romans 11:17 But if some of the branches were broken off,
and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them
and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,

NAsbU Romans 11:19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off
so that I might be grafted in."
Paul warns against the pride of a Gentile follower of Yah'shua.

NAsbU Romans 11:22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God;
to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness,
if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

NAsbU Romans 11:23 And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief,
will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
A Jew who comes to know the Jewish Messiah for their salvation
does not become a Christian,
They become a "called out one", a member of the Ekklesia.
They become a Messianic Jew.

The L-rd's name ( Shem ) is not je-zeus; it is Yah'shua ( YHvH is my salvation )

Which is why you must call on His NAME for salvation.

You are a sad soul.

You seem painfully unaware of the Paganism of Nicea

You might want to review the documents for illumination.

"I see that you are still engaging in your usual Catholic charity."

You are quick to sin and then demand an act of forgiveness from those you offend as though it were an entitlement or divine right. I am not called by Beatitude to tolerate lies and slander. Tolerance is not a Christian value but charity, justice, mercy, prudence, honesty are. Tolerance is an important working principle, but tolerating sin, evil and a lack of charity is itself a form of sin and serious evil.

Charity is the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God.

Charity always proceeds by way of respect for one's neighbor and his conscience. When lying, defaming and yourself demonstrating a lack of charity against your Catholic brethren and wounding their conscience you sin against Christ." (I Cor 8:12 ) Therefore "it is right not to do anything that makes your brother stumble."

So going forward you would best serve God, Free Republic, and yourself by preceding your lunatic fringe theories of history and Catholic dogma with a simple disclaimer.

It always the same;
ATTACK THE MESSENGER NEVER DISCUSS THE ISSUE.

Paul in 1 Cor 8:12 is talking about offering food to idols.
but you rip it out of context.
Try reading 1 Cor 8 the whole chapter in context.

So much for your advanced theological degrees.

May one day come to know the ONE true YHvH and seek His Salvation.

Attacking me, the Pope, and the Catholic Church does not allow you to jump the queue and move you closer to heaven. In fact just the opposite happens. You may believe that you have acquired a secret decoder ring that permits you and you alone to know the Word of God, but the simple truth is in the simplicity of Christ's message. We are all called to beatitude, not just the Jews, or the Christian-like cults that spring up claiming to be the elect. If we obey His two greatest commandments and live the beatitudes Salvation is ours.

So going forward you would best serve God, Free Republic, and yourself by preceding your lunatic fringe theories of history and Catholic dogma with a simple disclaimer. Now please stop lurking and sniping on every thread that touches Catholicism and the Church and go bother someone else in God's name.

WTH are you talking about....Jesus is the Messiah.....do you ever wonder why the Jewish people haven;t had a Prophet, let alone a Messiah in TWO THOUSAND YEARS???? Is he IGNORING His chosen people??? NO....He SENT HIS SON to Jews first, Gentiles and Greeks next.....why is this so hard to believe?? Has GOD IGNORED HIS CHOSEN FOR TWO THOUSAND YEARS???

But did not the same Paul said that Christ became our Paschel feast? Plus I will still call him Jesus, which means “savior”.

"My experience is that feeding the trolls never gets you anywhere."

Uri isn't your garden variety troll. He is the embodiment of a new variety of gnostic heretic who believes that special knowledge alone can achieve Salvation and can elevate each above his fellow man. He just hasn't put the pieces together enough to recognize it. I am doing him a favor by pointing it out.

"I am doing him a favor by pointing it out."

Just be careful. At some point you are just engaging in the vain arguments which the Apostle Paul condemns. (If you're not there already. He doesn't seem interested in true debate, just name calling and stirring the pot.)

I'm not reading his mind, just his posts. I can only hope that he doesn't believe it either.
