The Pope and the Murphy case: what the New York Times story didn't tell you
I'm Catholic, and I love the pope dearly, but that's a really lame attempt to divert responsiblity.
The fact is it happened on Ratzinger's watch when Ratzinger was in charge. That makes him responsible, even if he didn't make the decision personally. Ratzinger was the one who picked the vicar general who made the decision, and it was Ratzinger who chose to delegate such decisions to him. Finally, at the very least he had a duty to dicipline the vicar general when he found out about this decision that was made in his name.
At the very least, he's guilty of gross negligence.
The Holy Father needs to accept responsibility for these actions. I find the fact that he refuses to be very dissapointing, to say the least.
