Is this the face of Jesus Christ?Figure of crucified man on Shroud comes to life
WND ^ | March 24th, 2010

The world will have an extraordinary opportunity to look upon an undistorted, never-before-seen, moving 3-D portrait of a man who many think is the crucified Jesus Christ.

In just one week, graphic experts will bring to life an imprint on the holy relic known as the Shroud of Turin, believed by millions to be the burial shroud of Christ.

The Shroud of Turin bears the full-body, back-and-front image of a crucified man that is said to closely resemble the New Testament description of the passion and death of Christ. The 14-foot cloth long has posed mysteries because of its age and its negative image of a bloodstained and battered man who had been crucified. Believers claim it to be the miraculous image of Jesus, formed as he rose from the dead.

The History Channel will air "The Real Face of Jesus?," a special two-hour event that premieres March 30 at 9 p.m. EST. It aims to bring the world as close as it has ever come to seeing what Jesus may have actually looked like.

No one is “worshiping” the Shroud. That’s a straw man; a canard. It is revered....not “worshiped”.

Also....know this: If you are a believing Christian, wonderful. Just remember, and I don’t mean to be or sound insulting when I say this: It ain’t all about you, my friend. There are BILLIONS in this world who do not believe in Christ at all, or haven’t heard of Him, or don’t believe in His resurrection, etc.

If the Shroud gets people thinking, wondering, seeking....I send ‘em to the first-hand accounts, which just happen to be in the Gospels of the New Testament.

One other point that my very wise partner, organizer of the original STURP investigation in 1978 and a scientist’s scientist, likes to say:

“If that is truly Him, He left it for a reason.”

You haven’t the slightest idea of what you speak. I know what I’m talking about.

I’m co-founder of the first and only organization totally dedicated to scientific research on the Shroud. The first. The only.

We sure as hell ain’t rich, and we sure as hell get no government grants, son. Zip. Nada.

Think, learn before you speak in the future.

You make some valid points in this post here....but understand, also.

Every time we apply a new science, a new technology to the Shroud, we learn something new.

There are those who believe (I won’t go into detail yet here, but let’s just say that I agree with them) that the Shroud could very well re-write the physics books. Completely.

It is NOT a requirement for our faith as Christians. I didn’t demand “proof” when I became a Christian; neither did you. It was FAITH that led us to accept Him as our Lord and Savior. That is a wonderful thing.

However, as I said to you above, the Shroud and its image were left for a reason. I happen to believe that God knows what He’s doing. Maybe you don’t agree. He left if for us to learn, to wonder, to educate ourselves.....and most importantly, I think, to help educate the vast number of non-believers in this world.

That, my friend, is VALUABLE.

I have no reason to believe you are the person you are saying you are....and so it does go in cyberspace.

Thanks for posting here and clearing up some of the ignorance - especially my own. I read a book roughly 25 years or so ago about the original investigation, but haven’t paid much attention lately to the latest. Please pass on my regards to them.

Just wondering....have you bothered to actually research just a little?

Why yes indeed I have....for that, one does come to a quick conclusion if worth the time or effort to devote to a piece of cloth. People who want to believe so much that something more is there than actually is will of course take the research to extremes. Artifacts are interesting to find and appreciate...but I would rather examine a truly historical dig in the ME than something that for years now remains just a piece of cloth with unidentifiable ownership...and is all speculation at it's best.

...and frankly, I couldn’t care less what you believe or don’t believe. It’s the truth, every word of it.

No, you just really haven’t bothered. Don’t pretend otherwise. The Shroud’s history and the research conducted on it have been exhaustively chronicled for many years. It’s unique in the world, in many ways. Whether you choose to peer down your nose at it or dismiss it matters not.

revered....not worshiped. And old Joe Stalin, he was first among equals, too. Sorry if I’m tromping on toes, insulting your friends, not giving the old Mother Church its due diligence, etc. I was just born skeptical, hell, maybe ‘twas Mary herself what made me that way. You and all your legit experts can hope and can crank out the probabilities and plausabilities, and eat, sleep, and dream best-case Shroud scenarios, but nothing changes. Just ‘cause it’s interesting, unusual, or even unique don’t mean it’s Jesus. Your collective dedication to the valueless relics and tokens is almost sad sometimes. An hour is coming, when the true will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks. Not sure I’m one of them, but the word truth does have a nice ring to it, in my ear.

So now you’re cloaking (rather, attempting to cloak) your vile diatribe against the Catholic church (no, I’m not Catholic) and the researchers (you aren’t fit to shine their shoes) in clumsy, pseudo-Christian rhetoric?

Son............you are WAY out of your league. Go find a Web site that appreciates shallowness, the vapid, and closed-mindedness.

That site ain’t here on FR.

No, I’m not “cloaking”, I was trying to be sarcastic, but you didn’t catch it. Mother Church, Mary made (created?) me, and “clumsy, pseudo-Christian rhetoric” that’s actually a direct quote from Jesus Christ himself that you also didn’t catch...

Have fun fantasizing in the possibilities that quaint, eerie, mysterious 14th century tapestry presents, and have fun insulting me, and and have fun putting yourself in charge of FR’s membership, but you, like Pelosi and Obama and that fat fag frog Bawney Fwank, can’t bully and bluster and shout me into believing the same way you do. Sorry. And you won’t shut me up by ordering me to shut up.

“If that is truly Him, He left it for a reason.”

That's such an incredibly simple concept, I don't know why it is so difficult for some to grasp.

I have no reason to believe you are the person you are saying you are....

First of all, this thread is on the Religion Forum and this is a clear personal attack.

Secondly, RightOnline has been here for over eleven years, you've been here a couple months.

Throughout this thread RightOnline has been talking about DOCUMENTED scientific research, you don't have to agree with it, but you can't deny that it's been done.

Saying something along the lines of, "Catholics are involved, so it must be fake," IS NOT a factual argument, it's an agenda.

Do not make this thread "about" individual Freepers. That is also a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

Best advice I've ever received came when I was 17: Never argue with an idiot! Now I'm not saying that Flowerplough is stupid, BUT closed-mindedness and unwillingness to accept any facts which challenge pre-conceived notions is almost as bad. Don't let the few get you down!! You're performing a great service here, and I've directed a few skeptical friends to this thread, b/c of your knowledge of the subject. Cordially, Bob

Yep...another cash cow for “science” to study and keep the Gov. flowing cash to their institutes of study. Sort of like climate warming...go to to get those grants.

I imagine this cloth may end up in the catholic church somewhere with the other relics etc., they do have an enormous storage type facilities for this sort of stuff. I do wonder how much tax money has already been spent on making this into something....well at most to speculate over. Might have been better spent insuring someone so they could live than over a burial cloth...sad really.

good grief... The abysmal ignorance. The research on the shroud has been privately funded, all of it. No government funds at all. The Shroud us already owned by the Catholic church.

Interesting artifact.
However we are reminded by YHvH:

Exodus 20:4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol,
or any likeness of what is in heaven above
or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.

good point, however, ask yourself: if this was left behind by Jesus in the empty tomb WHO made it? Us, or God?
