I knew these prayers were out there, but I had never seen them referenced until this year.

Just to start I am not Catholic, so I can not say what is believed in these matters.
Anyway, I have often wondered about Joseph. He was such a man of faith. What a situation he was placed in and yet he was faithful to God and his betrothed.
Did he really understand who Jesus was? I mean he probably understood He was special, but did he really understand.
He raised Him as his son. He taught Him his trade, he loved Him.
When Joseph was dying, did Jesus sit at his side knowing that His time had not come and could do nothing. Did Joseph bless Him when he knew he was dying which was the custom?
I for one can't wait to meet him and ask these questions.

When Joseph was dying, did Jesus sit at his side knowing that His time had not come and could do nothing.

A beautiful thought--a prefiguring of His own Passion, and what a cruel dart was hurled by those who taunted Him saying "he saved others, let him save himself" for Jesus knew that He had been unable to spare his foster father the sting of death.

I think Joseph did know because he was visited by an Angel. I think Mary would have also told him about the Angel who visited her. He heard Simeon and Anna’s words at the temple. He saw the Boy live out His life. He loved Him.

I am sure Joseph, a good Jew, followed every custom with Jesus and gave his blessing. I think Christ probably was happy for Joseph, a good and faithful servant, when he died. He was one of the first Christians and Christ knew that Joseph would not have to walk the way of the Cross with him. That pain was reserved for Mary. Joseph was spared the sight.

I hope to see him too. God bless you.

>>Did he really understand who Jesus was?<<

.
If you believe that St. Joseph had a visit by an angel telling him about Jesus’ conception, you can safely assume that that same angel must’ve explained more things to him than we know of.

**When Joseph was dying, did Jesus sit at his side knowing that His time had not come and could do nothing. Did Joseph bless Him when he knew he was dying which was the custom?**

St. Joseph is the patron of a happy death. So I believe that St. Joseph did know of Christ’s divinity; I think that he probably did bless him in those moments.

And may the Lord, Jesus Christ, bless you and your family.

PS. They say that when we enter heaven we won’t have any questions, because they will have all been answered by that time. Something else to ponder, huh? (Smilie)

I thought of this too, but didn’t post it. I can see Joseph and Mary having many long discussions about this unusual Son of theirs!

Agreed (about knowing). I just had a happy thought there would be an eternity to search out and just talk to these figures of history. When we are not Praising and Worship the Lord God Almighty that is.

Salvation, can you imagine safeguarding the person you believe is going to be the Messiah? What a man St. Joseph must have been! I see him as the strong, silent type!

Venerable father Paul of Moll always said that St Joseph’s body was never corrupted, That mankind will find it whole one day. He was miracle worker in the order of St Benedict. Also gave out the St Benedict Medal for miracles. He saw the body in a vision.
