I write today for my son and other young men about what an extraordinary privilege it is to be an Aaronic Priesthood holder. You have been ordained and given POWER, by someone with authority from God, to act in Gods name on the earth today.
You know all about superheroes. Its fun to watch movies and see the powers superheroes like Spiderman, Batman and Superman have. But thats just the movies and not real.
However, from the moment you are ordained a deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood, you are given more power than all the superheroes in the world combined -- and it is REAL power. Its a special power, of course, and it can only be used if you are living the commandments.
Its also a power that lets you help others, but you cant use it for selfish reasons: to get things or do things that Heavenly Father doesnt want done. However, when you use your priesthood power righteously, wonderful things will happen and you will see miracles, from simple to awe-inspiring, in your life.
What does it mean to be ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood? First, it means God has enormous confidence in you. Imagine a powerful king who rules over millions of people telling you he trusts you so much that he is going to give you his signet ring.
When you have his ring you have the authority and power to do things in the kings name. That king would have to love you very much and he would have to have enormous faith that you will make good decisions and do what is right.
But this is not a make believe situation; its real. Priesthood is the greatest power in the universe and our Heavenly king, God, will trust you with his power throughout your life as long as you remain worthy. He expects you to be sober, to keep the commandments, share the gospel and use priesthood power to help and serve others.
Second, more than the fact that you have power, being an Aaronic Priesthood holder means that you have duties and responsibilities given you. God requires you to do certain things and you will answer to him somedayabout how well you did what he asked you to do.
You can still have fun and enjoy life, but he wants you to be serious in representing him, honoring the priesthood and setting a righteous example for others.
A good way to understand what it means when you are ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood is to consider some of the responsibilities and blessings that come to you as a deacon, a teacher and a priest. All young men ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood hold the keys of the ministering of angels.
This is a literal promise and at times angels with attend and watch over you although you will not necessarily see them.
As a deacon you are to pass the sacrament, watch over the church, bear testimony of Christ, warn, expound, exhort and invite all members to come unto Christ. To do this you will need to keep the commandments, and carefully study the scriptures and the teachings of todays prophets and apostles.
You are charged with helping the bishop by gathering fast offerings, caring for those in need, fellowshipping quorum brethren, and strengthening and uplifting the members.
When you become a teacher, under the direction of your priesthood leaders, you are to prepare the sacrament and are charged with speaking well of others and strengthening members by encouraging them to live the commandments.
You too warn, expound, exhort, teach and invite all to come unto Christ by home teaching, speaking in church, being an example of righteousness and integrity, and speaking kindly about others.
A priest adds to these duties baptizing and administering the sacrament. He is commissioned to visit members in their homes and to urge them to pray and attend to their family duties.
Isnt it amazing how much the Lord trusts the young men in the church and how much he depends on them?
When Wilford Woodruff went on his first mission, he "went out as a priest, and my companion as an elder, and we traveled thousands of miles, and had many things manifested to us.
"I desire to impress upon you the fact that it does not make any difference whether a man is a priest or an apostle, if he magnifies his calling. A priest holds the key of the ministering of angels. Never in my life, as an apostle, as a seventy, or as an elder, have I ever had more of the protection of the Lord than while holding the office as a priest.
"The Lord revealed to me by visions, by revelations, and by the Holy Spirit, many things that lay before me.
What a wonderful honor it is to hold the Aaronic Priesthood and how important it is to do everything in your power to always be worthy of this great privilege given you by God.
Oh, but I like discussing it and am willing to do so all night (but I’m brushing my teeth and REALLY signing off for the night)
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow my dear Resty :-)
crickets....what a powerful rant.

Unless, evidently, you are a PROPHET; then it appears the Peter Principle takes over.
It still takes just ONE click...
As a boy, I recall my mother reading Book of Mormon and Church history stories to me. I felt a sweet, peaceful, reassuring feeling that what I was learning was true. This feeling developed into a sincere desire to learn more by studying the scriptures.
...The glory of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints is feelings...
You are quoting how the elders and priest administered the sacraments in 400-421 AD. This is well after the Church supposedly went into the whole universal apostasy you Mormons talk about, almost a century after the creed the you despise so was written.
So why is the “RESTORED” Church following an apostate and heretical tradition? Why should we believe you when you say it does and an eye witness says otherwise?
Given the position of the LDS that anything that occurred after the Apostles died is heretical and nothing is correct in Christianity until Joey the "prophet" had the church "restored" and given the general tone of LDS doctrine and this eyewitness it would seem your proof is rather weak that svcw is incorrect.
I know logic and reason are kicked to the curb in the LDS, but really, you make it too easy...
We've seen this mindset in these threads:
A perfectly understandable English sentence is denied by others trying to 'prove' what it REALLY means!
You betcha!

Twelve more years passed. Each year the Bagginses had given very lively combined birthday-parties at Bag End; but now it was understood that something quite exceptional was being planned for that autumn. Bilbo was going to be eleventy-one, 111, a rather curious number, and a very respectable age for a hobbit (the Old Took himself had only reached 130); and Frodo was going to be thirty- three, 33, an important number: the date of his coming of age.
Tongues began to wag in Hobbiton and Bywater; and rumour of the coming event travelled all over the Shire. The history and character of Mr. Bilbo Baggins became once again the chief topic of conversation; and the older folk suddenly found their reminiscences in welcome demand.
No one had a more attentive audience than old Ham Gamgee, commonly known as the Gaffer. He held forth at The Ivy Bush, a small inn on the Bywater road; and he spoke with some authority, for he had tended the garden at Bag End for forty years, and had helped old Holman in the same job before that. Now that he was himself growing old and stiff in the joints, the job was mainly carried on by his youngest son, Sam Gamgee. Both father and son were on very friendly terms with Bilbo and Frodo. They lived on the Hill itself, in Number 3 Bagshot Row just below Bag End.
A very nice well-spoken gentlehobbit is Mr. Bilbo, as Ive always said, the Gaffer declared. With perfect truth: for Bilbo was very polite to him, calling him Master Hamfast, and consulting him constantly upon the growing of vegetables in the matter of roots, especially potatoes, the Gaffer was recognized as the leading authority by all in the neighbourhood (including himself).
But what about this Frodo that lives with him? asked Old Noakes of Bywater. Baggins is his name, but hes more than half a Brandybuck, they say. It beats me why any Baggins of Hobbiton should go looking for a wife away there in Buckland, where folks are so queer.

(I thought I would post some fiction that gives equal support to your contention as what you posted. Thought it would help.)
There is no impasse, but you are right there is no need for further discussion since the LDS doctrine is fiction and you are wrong to even cite it much less to associate Christ with it.
I sure that people remember the MANY times, when QUOTES from the JOD were presented in these threads, the claim was made that "Well; those are NOT from Scripture."
The Journal of Discourses deservedly ranks as one of the standard works of the Church, and every rightminded Saint will certainly welcome with joy every number (issue) as it comes forth. (President George Q. Cannon, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 8.)
Each successive Volume of these Discourses is a rich mine of wealth, containing gems of great value, and the diligent seeker will find ample reward for his labor. After the fathers and mothers of this generation have made them the study of their lives their childrens children will find that they are still unexhausted, and rejoice that this Record has been handed down from their fathers to also aid them in following the way of life. (Apostle Orson Pratt, Preface. Volume 3.)
It is impossible to give monetary value to the past volumes of this publication, Those who read the utterances of the servants of God, contained in this book, under the same influence by which the speakers were inspired, cannot fail to receive profit from the perusal. (President Joseph F. Smith, Preface, Volume 18.)
We take great pleasure in presenting to the Saints and the world the the Journal of Discourses, which they will find contains rich treasures of information concerning the glorious principles of Eternal Life, as revealed through Gods anointed servants in these last days. All who read the discourses contained in this Volume are earnestly recommended to adapt them to their lives by practice, and we can confidently assure them that, in doing so, they are laying up a store of knowledge that will save and exalt them in the Celestial kingdom. (Apostle Albert Carrington, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 15.)
Orson Pratt said that before men and women are born on earth as babies, their spirits are adult-sized in heaven. When they are born, their spirits are compresse, which causes a loss of memory. (31)

1 Corinthians 12:28 (King James Version)
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
