When Glenn Beck told listeners of his radio show on March 2 that they should "run as fast as you can" from any church that preached "social or economic justice" because those were code words for Communism and Nazism, he probably thought he was tweaking a few crunchy religious liberals who didn't listen to the show anyway. Instead he managed to outrage Christians in most mainline Protestant denominations, African-American congregations, Hispanic churches, and Catholics...

24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die, and go unto my fathers; and I go down to my grave with joy.

WOW
Instead Joey Smith went to his grave with bang-bang...
and again he didnt prophecy about the guns or the men he murdered...
Was that a secret ???
Salvation by Grace is a gift, it does not require living a certain way? We DO NOTHING? What a helpless view... So you are free to do whatever you want and still obtain salvation with no need for repentance? ...
Why are we told to repent if we have nothing to do with it? Why are we told to fast if its not up to us? Why are we told to love one another if it makes no difference?
- - - - - - - -
Typical LDS misinterpretation. It is not a ‘helpless view’ so much as it is realizing that we are helpless. That no matter how hard we try, we CANNOT please God because we are sinful creatures. It is a surrender, a giving of our whole lives to God and Christ and being grateful that Christ saved us from Hell (which we deserve just because we are sinners), and makes a place for us with the Father.
And you make another typical LDS misrepresentation, a fatal one, that freedom in Christ equals license. You assume that those who believe they are saved by grace can (and do) whatever they want, ‘sin like they mean’ it because our sins are forgiven.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. Liberty does not equal license!! And salvation by Grace changes a persons heart, we do not do ‘good works’ out of duty or to earn godhood, we do good works, repent, love etc. out of GRATITUDE.
We realize that we are sinners and that we WILL sin no matter how hard we try, but we rest that God will not punish us when we screw up and will not withhold His love from us. God looks at us and doesn’t see our sins, He sees the Righteous, innocent blood of Jesus. That is something to Praise God for, not insult.
Those who are saved by grace actually want to sin less, you don’t spit on those that love you. You do not insult a giftgiver, do you? No, of course not.
Do we expect anything for our obedience, not at all. If we expected something our motives would be impure. we would be working for our salvation, for a gift that has already been given us.
We are told to repent, to love, to fast to help us GROW in the faith, to show that we are ALREADY saved, not in order to be saved.
Once again, the LDS have it backwards and are arrogant to think that they can ‘help’ God in their salvation.
What does it mean to believe? How do you believe? Why did Jesus teach us the Lords prayer?

To believe is to:
# accept as true; take to be true; “I believed his report”; “We didn’t believe his stories from the War”; “She believes in spirits”
# think: judge or regard; look upon; judge; “I think he is very smart”; “I believe her to be very smart”; “I think that he is her boyfriend”; “The racist conceives such people to be inferior”
# be confident about something; “I believe that he will come back from the war”
# follow a credo; have a faith; be a believer; “When you hear his sermons, you will be able to believe, too”
We believe because we accept what God says in the Bible as true (not just the parts that maybe ‘translated correctly’), and His word tells us that we are saved by Grace, not by works (and before you quote James at me, I can tell you the LDS take it out of context and if you wish I will school you in it).
We believe because we think and judge the Bible and recognize that it is supported by archeology and linguistic evidence (something the BoM is not).
We believe because we are confident that the Bible is true and thus the Word of God and that Christ shed His blood on the Cross for our sins (not the Garden).
We believe because we are followers of Jesus Christ (not a denomination).
Why did Jesus teach the Lord’s prayer? That is easy. Jesus condemned the Pharisees who prayed openly, publicly and arrogantly. The Lord’s prayer shows us our rightful place (nothing compared to God), to be humble and thankful in our prayers, to ask for what we need and to realize that we can (and are) still tempted.
The Lord’s prayer is a contrast to the Jewish prayers of the time it is not just a ‘template’ like the LDS use it.
NOW...what else would you like to know?
I see lots of anger.
Thank you for making my point.
fine, cite one instance of anger in that post, go ahead, we can wait. But if you can't, consider what your testimony has become in light of the ninth commandment.
Where?
Dictator-"prophets" from the get-go. Don't believe me? Listen to what Brigham Young had to say about Joseph Smith:
When brother Joseph Smith lives, he was our Prophet, our Seer, and Revelator; he was our dictator in the things of God, and it was for us to listen to him, and do just as he told us. (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 106)
This was, simply put, religious brainwashing. Thought control, where you can only "think" in the way or manner the leader or group thinks. It's also just more evidence of the communistic bent that grew up into into the sprouts of Brigham City & Orderville, Utah -- as implemented by Young, Lorenzo Snow, etc. -- which was finally begun to be halted by John Taylor.
Hmmm, “dictator.” So, BY was right, but you are wrong. Once again, you twist the meaning of words and you know better.
Dictator not only means an absolute ruler, but it can also mean a person who dictates, as to a secretary. Joseph Smith dictated the words of the Lord, therefore he was a dictator.
I just love it when people like you Colofornian show their lack of any attempt to understand the belief and thoughts of others.
When brother Joseph Smith lives, he was our Prophet, our Seer, and Revelator; he was our dictator in the things of God, and it was for us to listen to him, and do just as he told us. (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 106)

and Brigham Young went on to be a dictator and a despot and the king of a theocracy...
so much for the Constitution...
wrecked by the very mormons who claim they are going to save it...
Twisting contexts again, Urroner? Brigham clearly said as a response: "and DO" what the dictator, Joseph Smith, said. (Not write down what he said!)
Now are you going to "parse out" the meaning of the word, "do" for us...like Bill Clinton did the meaning of the word "is"??????
These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. - Matthew 15:8

News for you Resty, Jesus wasn’t talking about Christians, he was talking about the Pharisees, those who put their faith in legalism (a ‘church’ as it were) over God. Today, He would have been talking to the Mormons.
Really?
Besides; wouldn’t you need a few more STICKS?
For all the D&C’s and the PGP and Book of Abraham...

Would that make it a pentagram?

2 Ne. 28: 31.
31 Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man,
Instead Joey Smith went to his grave with bang-bang...

Jesus: “Does bang-bang ring a bell?”
I’m still laughing at that one.
Not anger, frustration perhaps but not anger.
And I am aware that I must make distinctions between what Christians believe and what the LDS believe since often the same terms are used.
NO WORKS INVOLVED. NONE, zip, zero, zilch, nada. He believed (confession is not a work it is a by product of belief).
Good post, SVCW...Thanks.
