FAITH UNDER FIRE Banished! City forbids Bible studies in homes 'This letter will serve as a 10-day written notice to quit such use' Posted: March 13, 2010 12:20 am Eastern

By Bob Unruh © 2010 WorldNetDaily

The city of Gilbert, Ariz., has ordered a group of seven adults to stop gathering for Bible studies in a private home because such meetings are forbidden by the city's zoning codes.

The issue was brought to a head when city officials wrote a letter to a pastor and his wife informing them they had 10 days to quit having the meetings in their private home.

The ban, however, prompted a response from the Alliance Defense Fund, which filed an appeal with the city as the first step in its campaign to overturn a provision it describes as illegal.

Well assuming this group doesn’t block roads/driveways with wall to wall parked cars, they should tell the city to PI$$ OFF...and God Bless.

They better not mess with me. I am always armed with a large caliber Bible. I open carry it. It is always loaded. And it is sharper than any two edged sword. Trust me, I’m not afraid to use it. “Whether is is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard”

So big deal: they meet to watch football and happen to bring Bibles. End of issue.

I live in Gilbert and was shocked when I heard of this ridiculous ruling. When I moved to Gilbert 20 years ago it had a population of 10,000. It now is a city of over 200,000, but it still calls itself a town. The city management unfortunately has only enough competence to run a small town, not a large city. My guess is that this was the action of some incompetent bureaucrat acting on a poorly written zoning bylaw. Gilbert has three large mega churches (4000+ members) that all sponsor home based small groups that will fight this. The large Mormon population will not be affected, because they do not meet in homes, but if they don't support the evangelicals in this issue, they will lose a lot of credibility in the community. I believe this ruling will be quickly reversed, but if it is not I will be moving from Gilbert.

I live in Katy, if I travel about 4 miles East it is Houston. Anything near downtown is pretty much liberal but the outskirts all around Houston is mostly conservative. Houston looks bad to many I guess but there are alot of pockets that are just beautiful and conservative.

I am under the belief that the first Christians met, ate and sang in each others homes.

In my humble opinion, we could reach more of our neighbors, if we opened our homes such as those in Gilbert, AZ.

Our dear government wants everything organized, and TAXED.

We may end up hiding from the government, and sharing meals again, soon.

I live in Gilbert as well. I almost took this as satire. I go to a larger Bible Based Church that sponsers area communities. Which means taking a larger church and making it smaller with home groups. The funny thing is Gilbert is a very conservative Town. This ruling won’t last.

Goldwater Institute Watchdog Report
March 10, 2010

The Goldwater Institute Watchdog Report is a periodic publication intended to identify government corruption and waste and to hold politicians and public agencies accountable to taxpayers.

A handful of taxpayers in a small community north of Wickenburg, Arizona are being targeted by the local school district in a lawsuit that asks a judge to declare they have no right to request public records, sue the district, or complain to outside agencies.

The Congress Elementary School District claims that past efforts by these residents to obtain documents such as minutes of board meetings and spending reports amount to harassment that should not have to be tolerated.

Jean WarrenBut Jean Warren, one of the four defendants named in the lawsuit filed January 28, 2010, said the complaint is an illegal attempt to silence citizens who have questioned the district’s policies and spending practices.

“The whole thing is based on trying to shut us down so that nobody has any rights,” Warren said. “Just because you live in a small area does not mean you don’t have rights. Everything I believe about the Constitution and what it means to be a citizen of the USA is being shot down.”

Exactly!! You said it beautifully. This Bible study group needs to study about the persecution of the early Christians. THAT was persecution.

I thought the same thing. What about FREE speech.

Or has the persecution begun?

And to think that the Catholic Church actually started in small home churches!

The apostles attended the synagogue of Saturday and then held their Eucharistic celebration meal on Sunday in honor of Chrit’s resurrection.

Tell the copos it’s bridge night and then it’s okay. Some of these cities need to be abolished and start all over with some common sense.
