I used to really get upset when my faith was criticized but of late I have come to realize that it’s a good thing.

Your faith is not so much CRITICISED as it is EXPOSED.

OFFICIAL LDS writings are shown here on FR and it appears that they are indefensible.

If that is 'CRITICISM', well...

They don't do theology: they do feelings.

Peaceful....time stops....
___________________________

Yes, those words are from Big Love...

What I thought, Saundra, was...

Why only in the mormon tem[ple do you feel “peaceful” ???

Why not outside the temple ???

Why would you have to go all the way to a mormon temple and all the expense to find what you call peace ???

I have the peace of God and yet I have never been inside a momorn temple nor shall I ever have too...

I have the Peace of God as I write these words...

You see, JESUS is the PEACE of God...

Jesus is the PRINCE of PEACE... Isaiah 7:14

I have the Christian Jesus of the Bible in my heart and He gives me the PEACE that passes all understanding... Philippians 4:7

After knowing Jesus for free all these years, why would I exchange Him who is real Peace and real Truth for a once every few months counterfeit that money changing men control and charge me great sums and anguish for ???

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

I have god the father, God the Son, the Word, Jesus , and God the Holy Ghost....The Holy Trinity dwelling inside of me...

I dont need to go to any temple built by mens hands to find a god...

I am the temple...He chooses to live in me...1 Corinthians 3:16

Jesus and the Peace of God are a gift to us from God...God loved us and He gave...John 3:16

I feel sorry for anyone who is searching for Jesus the Prince of Peace and dont know how to find Him...Jeremiah 33:3

or have been told day after day in these threads and yet STILL choose to reject Him and not believe Mark 16:15, 16

It’s more than that. Mormons are so invested during their whole lives in the idea that their church makes them “special” and superior, that when you point out the facts that show their “specialness” is based on an an illusion, you are stealing something that is their very core.

You are very correct on this.

Almost EVERY get rich scheme I’ve heard of in decades originates in Utah... I suspect it’s part of the mormon
culture to want to appear successful.

- - - - - -
Have you ever read “The darker side of virtue” by Anson Shupe? It chronicles how the culture of the LDS encourages fraud and get rich quick schemes, even some by the leadership. Worth a read.

The description Saundra gave reminds me of the Temple scene in “Big Love.”

Peaceful....time stops....

It used to stop for me too, when I fell asleep during the movie.

- - - - - - - - -
Saundra went through after the 1990 changes, before then the blood oaths were almost enough to keep people awake.

First time through though most will admit they were freaked out a bit. It is just so strange. You are primed for this ‘superspritual experience’ and then the reality is “WTH is this all about?!?” Usually the response if you vocalize concern or dismay is “Keep going and you will understand it”.

You sound like a robot. Seriously. Mormon ‘testmonies’ always remind me of the “Stepford wives”.

I was just reading today how several temples in Utah are cutting sessions again because of low attendance.

It is a shame that the LDS put so much faith in rip offs of Masonic rituals.

And ‘miracles’ are NOT a sign something is from God. Satan can perform ‘miracles’ as well.

The LDS do worship their temples, they have icons of them in their houses, on their article of faith cards, on their wedding cakes, I even had a watch with the SLC temple on it. I do not get why they place so much emphasis on a building.

God does not reside in buildings of wood and stone. For Christians He lives in our hearts. There is no “house of the Lord”. One more LDS adoption of Old Testament Judaism that was fulfilled in Christ Jesus.

Yet the LDS choose ‘the Law’ over The Lord. Choose Christ, Saundra, not a ‘church’.

There is no salvation inside the Mormon church, none at all no matter how ‘good’ it may make us feel.

I attended pre-1990. The actors used to make me laugh. At least it was entertaining and you never really knew what to expect. But come on - a 80 year old Adam and Eve?

I was such an ingrained old-school Mormon, the blood oaths didn't even cause me to flinch - to me it was just par for the course.....swearing not to "tell" upon penalty of death. Of course the Mormon God would demand this....or at least that is what I had been indoctrinated to believe.

Since I was a convert, it shocked me.

Everyone kept saying that they were necessary and then a few months later, ‘poof’ they were gone (March 1990).

I had been told that these were ‘eternal’ and ‘restored’ rites. I remember wondering why, all of a sudden those essentials were no longer necessary and why would God change an ‘eternal’ ritual.

The changes affected my testimony in a big way. A lot my friends testimonies as well, the changes were big news in Provo/Orem area and at the ‘Y’.

There is no ability in the LDS to persuade from a theological stand point.

- - - - — -
Comes from a defective theology. Their theology relies on subjective feelings and they are told so often not to ‘study too much’ or ‘study themselves out of the Church’ that many do not study at all, they just parrot what they are told by others.

I saw it myself when I was LDS. I was probably considered a ‘troublemaker’ by some because I was a woman who kept asking questions.

Persecution for the sake of a ‘church’ is not necessarily a good thing. Christ tells us that Christians will be persecuted for HIS NAME’S SAKE, not a denomination.

And you have NOT seen persecution, i guarantee it. Criticism is not “persecution” by any stretch of the imagination.

Do you want to read about those who are REALLY persecuted for Christ? Killed, maimed, jailed, tortured. Check out THIS site:

Which version?? If you are familiar with the Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic then you know that almost all modern English translations are acceptable.

I do not accept the Apocrypha as canon, mostly for authorship reasons, however I do see that the can be edifying reading and I have done several studies of them.
