But when folks FINALLY realize to just WHO or WHAT they made those ‘vows’ to...

Yep. I was shocked when “Satan” refers to the green apron as the emblem of *his* power and priesthoods and then commands the LDS temple patrons to put on their green apron.

In fact, I don’t know if resty has either.

Actually, IIRC she has mentioned attending the temple on here.

And considering her age, status and how long she has been a member, it would be very odd indeed if she hasn’t been.

Sad but true, I have had the opportunity to disciple new believers and it is such a wonderful experience, but too often we leave them to learn on their own and many do not.

Those who are not properly grounded are more likely to fall away.

I know all kinds of life-long LDS members who have never attended the Temple. Many of them life right here is the heart of Utah, where travel isn’t and issue.

It becomes more of an issue the farther from Utah you go. I know resty lived in New York and Michigan. There are temples nearby in NY.

Which Temples have you attended resty?

I once read a figure that only about 25% of Mormons have attended the Temple.

It doesn't surprise me at all, and is probably quite accurate as far as my acquaintances go.

Wow, while I was looking up the percentage of Temple attenders, I found this little gem. Oh boy, I’m glad I’m out.

Temple Attendance

Let us be a temple-attending people. Attend the temple as frequently as personal circumstances allow. Keep a picture of a temple in your home that your children may see it. Teach them about the purpose of the house of the Lord. Have them plan from their earliest years to go there and to remain worthy of that blessing. — Howard W. Hunter

C.T.R.
“Current Temple Recommend”
Passport to Exaltation

“I make you a promise that if you will go to the House of the Lord, you will be blessed, life will be better for you... partake of all of the marvelous blessings that are yours to be received there. Now is the time to get your lives in order that you may be worthy to go to the House of the Lord. Get a temple recommend. Get it now. If every man and woman... would make that resolution and go to work to be worthy of a temple recommend, your lives would be blessed, your homes would be blessed, you would feel the spirit of the Lord in your homes.”
- President Gordon B. Hinckley -

You Are Invited

...to spend a half day (or even a full day) in the temple each month Here is what monthly temple participation will do for you:

3. The blessings of the Eternal Gods will be called down upon you, and great spiritual growth will be yours. (D&C 109: 12&14)
4. Unseen angels will watch over your loved ones when Satanic forces tempt them. (Acts 27:23)

6. Your children will all go on missions. (D&C 109:58)
7. You children will get married in the temple. (Conference Talks)
8. The veil will be thin, you will have great spiritual growth, and many spiritual experiences will distill upon you. (D&C 138)
9. You will be prepared for exaltation—with a celestial body, a celestial mind, and a celestial personality. (3 Nephi 12-20, 3 )
10. You will become receptive to divine guidance and you will receive spiritual perception to help you grapple with your problems and cares. (D&C 38:30) (D& C 3:1-3)
11. You will see clearly how to make critical decisions that weigh heavily on your mind. (D&C (109:42)
12. You will become Christlike. (D&C 109:22-25)

25% of total members worldwide, i can see. But for adults who are active members I can easily see the number be higher.

Also, they have relaxed situational requirements (not worthiness requirements) in the last 20 years or so to get more people to go through partly because it IS harder to leave once you go through.

For example, I have a friend who is LDS and married outside the temple to an LDS man (who was not worthy at the time). Her Bishop approved her to go through without her husband because her husband made no signs after 5 years of marriage to get back to being ‘worthy’ to take her to the temple.

I also had another friend who was an older widow (convert) and she went to the Temple right after her one year date because she had no intention of getting married again and wanted the work done for her husband.

Only 35% of LDS members world wide are active in the church at all, from some recent estimates.

You might be surprised at how few ward members actually hold or have held Temple Recommends. I doubt if it is 1/2 of the adults. This is information I received from my brother who is serving in his Bishopric.

I found this too:

It seems as if the LDS Church might be governing by poll. How Clintonesque.

What are the top things that interfere with you attending the temple regularly? (Select up to 5 choices)

* I don’t have a temple recommend.
* I don’t schedule a time to go.
* I feel uncomfortable in the temple.
* Finding a babysitter for my kids is difficult.
* The nearest temple is located far away.
* My temple visits feel boring or unsatisfying.
* I don’t have family names to take to the temple.
* It takes a lot of time.
* Getting a babysitter is costly.
* Finding the time in a busy week is difficult.
* I forget.
* I don’t understand the temple.
* I don’t have anyone to go with.
* I have transportation problems getting to the temple.
* My work (employment) gets in the way.
* I am not worthy.
* I don’t have a testimony of the temple.
* My first temple experience was poor, and I don’t feel like going back.
* I have an illness or am sick.
* I’d like to go in the morning, but I can’t get out of bed.
* My Church calling gets in the way.
* The temple is very busy when I’d like to go.
* Other (please specify in the comments, if you want)
