The Scenario:
Ever have one of those days when youre feeling full of energy and vigor? I mean, youre feeling just obnoxiously happy? Well, this is one of those days.
Driving home from work, you switch on the radio to see whats happening, and you tune in to a local Protestant radio station just in time to hear a preacher speaking against various Catholic doctrines concerning Mary. The show is called Pastor Bobs Bible Hour. Pastor Bob proclaims: Jesus knew Catholics would come along and begin to worship His mother and call her perpetual virgin and absurd things like that. But the Bible says: Is not this the carpenters son? Is not His mother called Mary? And are not His brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all of His sisters with us? (Matt. 13:55-56a). And isnt it sad, my brothers and sisters?
Pastor Bob goes on to say: Jesus dealt with these Mary worshippers in His day. In Luke 11:27-28, the Bible says, A woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts that You sucked! But He said, Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!
On a normal day you would probably just listen, take a few mental notes and drive on. But not this time. Youre feeling a little bit too saucy. You take the first exit you see and head for a phone. This is just one more reason why you need to buy that cell phone youve been talking about getting.
Step One:

A ‘likeness,’ a graven image....
Yes, I'm not sure I understand that question. Did God send Jesus to save Mary? No, Jesus came to save the world. Adam and Eve were sinless. Because of their FREE WILL, and subsequent dissobedience, their children were subjected to suffering. Eve, the mother of mankind, was dissobedient to God.
Catholics consider Mary, the "New Eve". Mary, was obedient to God. The Angel Gabriel required Mary's agreement, and only then, by the power of the Holy Spirit, she gave birth to our Savior. We consider Mary the Mother of all Christians, and mother of our church.
Do you consider those who call Eve, the "Mother of Mankind", blasphemous, or idol worshipers, as well?
Who is greater, Mary or Moses?
The kind of coy, deliberate lie that lieyers are accustomed to get away with in court.
It doesn't fly here.
who is greater, Mary or Moses?
That statement could be true if God had given us permission to pervert his word. - He didn't.
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (Mt 16:18-19)
Lutherans, who are very similar to catholics, and the first to leave the church, didn't come about until the 1700's. When was your church founded?
Either Luke 1:35 was consensual or not.
Jesus didn't receive His divinity from the Holy Spirit. As we state in the Nicene Creed, "begotten not made, consubstantial [in the current "translation," "one in being"] to the Father." This means that Jesus, as the Second Person of the Trinity, is eternal, and is of the same "substance" (meaning, His divinity) with His Father. The Holy Spirit shares in this divinity, because there is only one divinity, one Godhead.
Now, to the verse at hand. It says, "And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."
St. Gregory of Nyssa explained it this way: "Or he says, overshadow you, because as a shadow takes its shape from the character of those bodies which go before it, so the signs of the Son's Deity will appear from the power of the Father. For as in us a certain life-giving power is seen in the material substance, by which man is formed; so in the Virgin, has the power of the Highest in like manner, by the life-giving Spirit, taken from the Virgin's body a fleshly substance inherent in the body to form a new man. Hence it follows, Therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you."
Perhaps so (whatever that is).
But the Catholic Church was founded by Christ Himself circa AD 33.
Awwww!
You’re cute, little guy.
Hiding back there, bearing false witness against me.
Wanna cookie?
What is the point of that question? They are both important figures in God's creation. That's all I need to know. I wouldn't dare to pretend to have Universal Knowledge, to determine those things. As a matter of fact, man's(Eve's) first sin was to want to play the role of God. I see that a lot lately. May God deliver me.
Who is taller, Bartholemew or Jedidiah?
.Using your analogy and hermeneutics, this lame man is the cornerstone of the church, as well as our savior.
Acts 4
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11T his is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
You're worse than Dan Brown. Don't just assert, give proof.
Who is rounder, Joseph of Arimathea or Matthew the Tax Collector?
The power of God is so immense as to accomplish even this.
The point of the question, is that according to Catholic theology, Mary was born sinless. Moses was a sinner. So which is greater? Do Catholics worship Moses?
Catholics worship neither Mary nor Moses.
You deliberately pervert God’s word?
The rock on which christ built the church (not the pagan human roman apostasy) was Christ himself. That is the plain meaning of the words. Peter was not “rock,” but hard stone or pebble. He gave the keys to all of his elect.
There have only been “Popes” since the Roman Apostasy was founded. There is no pope in the church of Jesus Christ.
My church was founded on the day that Jesus Christ conquered death, almost 400 years before the Roman Catholic church came along.
