The Church of England is to go ahead with the plan to create women bishops without giving in to demands from traditionalists for a separate structure of bishops and archbishops untainted by the hands of a woman.
Traditionalists oppose women bishops because they argue that Jesus had no women disciples and that the apostolic succession of bishops, passed down by the laying of hands at ordination, should therefore be male.
Traditionalists warned last night that the decision, to be announced at the General Synod today, will trigger an exodus from the Church of England of many thousands of priests and lay people.
The Bishop of Manchester, the Right Rev Nigel McCulloch, will tell the synod at Church House, Westminster, London, that the revision process he is leading is not finished yet, and as a result the debate that was hoped for this month is delayed until July, when the synod meets in York.
But he will also say that attempts to find a way of creating a safe space for traditionalists have failed. These would have provided a church within a church, or what have been dubbed super flying bishops to replace the flying bishops that are in place at present to look after opponents of women priests.
The existing three flying bishop posts are to be abolished and not replaced. Instead, any women consecrated bishops will be asked to delegate authority to another bishop, such as a suffragan, to carry out confirmations and other episcopal duties in parishes that refuse to accept her ministry.
The historic decision, to be ratified by the synod in July, paves the way for women bishops to be consecrated as soon as 2012, once all parliamentary hurdles have been cleared. Canon Jane Hedges at Westminster Abbey and Canon Lucy Winkett at St Pauls .........................

C of E to traditionalists: you will accept women bishops and you mustn't go to Rome, either!
Anglican traditionalists have been treated terribly but entirely in keeping with the usual fascist liberal approach to anyone who doesn't share the liberal viewpoint.
King Henry’s church forges ahead into obscurity.
what’s the big deal? it’s been an a la carte watered down version of catholicism anyway.
Does anyone think the C of E is actually a church?
Yes. Imho, it is a church.

Seems more like a state owned social club from these articles.
I don’t disagree.
Well...the real problem started long ago, when they started simulating ordinations of women “priests.”
This is just the icing on the cake.
The Anglican Constitution of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church stands ready to receive those who realize that the church Henry built is on its way to the ash heap of history.
A bit of a shame too... it wasn’t a bad church. I was born into it, and returned to it. But it is hemorrhaging parishioners terribly, the funding is drying up, and it just ain’t what it used to be. That’s the problem. It’s getting so being a member of the Episcopal Church is tantamount to agreeing with their positions, on militant feminism, to homosexual leninism, to sexual nihilism, right on down the line.
Many of us could not stay under the circumstances and turned to Rome where Our Holy Father has been accepting us slowly, granted, but very very surely.
It’s a shame about the wymyn priests. It’s not that there is anything wrong with women... I like women quite well, thank you very much. I also find any number of women to be revered, listened to, advised by, cared for by, prayed for by... women I hold in the highest esteem, for whom I feel the deepest respect.
But ordaining them was the slippery slope, and it had predictable results. Thank God Rome held firm. I wish that they would work on elevating the visibility of and reverence for the Religious in general, including the wonderful nuns who do God’s work every day. It should be demonstrated that there are myriad ways for the sisters to contribute.
Just not as priests.
In the writings of the apologetic church fathers, a proof that a religious movement was heretical was if it had female priests. It was self-evident that a female priest so corrupted the essential foundation of a church that it was no longer a church. As we have seen today, in whatever Christian denomination that has women serving as priests/pastors, that denomination will become apostate. Look at the ELCA, Presbyterian Church USA, Episcopal, United Methodist, American Baptist, and Anglicans. Need I say more?

Speak the truth in love. Eph 4:15
While the Church of England herself is full of problems (not dis-similar to The Episcopal Church in the USA) the churches her missionaries planted in the developing world are about the fastest growing in the world.
Anglicanism is a lot of things, but an " a la carte watered down version of catholicism" it is not.
