Idaho GOP gubernatorial candidate Rammell expands on controversial prophecy in YouTube video

Rammell says he has invited about 100 Mormon men to a Jan. 19 meeting in Idaho Falls to discuss the "White Horse Prophecy," which some attribute to Mormon Church founder Joseph Smith. The prophecy, which is not embraced by top Latter-day Saints Church officials, holds that the Constitution "will hang ... by a single thread" and LDS leaders will step forward to preserve it.

In the video, Rammell defends his decision to meet only with Mormon men, because he wants to speak to those who believe Smith is a prophet. "I didn't think anyone else would want to come," he said.

Rammell said he is willing to discuss the issue with non-Mormons and expects them to join efforts to defend constitutional principles.

"I do not believe this responsibility lies solely on the shoulders of the LDS elders, but I do believe the LDS elders will play a significant role in it, and I believe I am one of those elders," Rammell said. "I am tired to people telling me that I can't bring God and the Constitution into my campaign speeches."

Do you mean the prophecy that never happened? The one all Mormons know about, but publicly deny?

This is shameful and embarrassing. We don't need people like him representing our party. Glad I'm in Texas. He needs to keep this kind of horse-crap to himself. It does not help our cause as conservatives. It hurts it.

What an idiot.

So again ldsers must make a JS prophesy happen. ie: manipulate facts, set in motion situations, lie, whatever it takes.
Interesting, I don’t remember OT and NT prophets needing help to profess the Word of God. Maybe I missed that part.

I think Romney's response to a question about this will be quite interesting.

Perhaps he will borrow Gordon Hinckley's famous quote on the question, "Is this the teaching of the church today, that God the Father was once a man like we are?"

"I don’t know that we teach it. I don’t know that we emphasize it. I haven’t heard it discussed for a long time in public discourse. I don’t know. I don’t know all the circumstances under which that statement was made. I understand the philosophical background behind it. But I don’t know a lot about it and I don’t know that others know a lot about it."

I can just hear Mitt repeating that about the "elders" saving the Constitution!

Oh???

When did they STOP 'embracing' it?

I think Romney's response to a question about this will be quite interesting.

More from the mouth of a late Prophet of MORMONism:

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus Saith the Lord,” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency—the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency—the living prophet and the First Presidency—follow them and be blessed—reject them and suffer.

I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.

Ezra Taft Benson

(Address given Tuesday, February 26, 1980 at Brigham Young University)

This is disgusting. As a Mormon, I hope this guy goes down in flames. This serves no purpose other than he thinks it will lift himself up among Mormons. He is dead wrong. It’s self serving and pompous.

Yes, the prophecies about Elders of the Church stepping forward to help save the Constitution are valid, but they have nothing to do with the White Horse Prophecy, that’s a separate issue that only includes the Constitution hanging by a thread part. The whole of it has been debunked, but not the part it borrows about the Constitution hanging by a thread, that has been repeated oft by Church authorities.

Personally, anyone from any religion who helps save our Constitution will get my vote, but not if it’s for shameless political reasons like this moron is doing.

As for Mitt, he’s a High Priest, so you guys don’t need to worry about him. ;-)

I for one would think you should be worried about Glenn Beck. He’s an Elder in the Church, and since the oft repeated statements say that it will be Elders who step forward, he’s doing more to help save the Constitution than any politician could ever do.

I support Beck way more than I do Mitt. We need to give him all the tools he needs to help pull our freedoms back from the brink.

I suspect you can find it easily enough, given how often you post anti LDS stuff on here.

Try looking up Constitution hanging thread LDS instead of White Horse Prophecy.

The statements were not only made by Joseph Smith, but said anew by Brigham Young, John Taylor, and others including recent decades. Ezra Taft Benson, who was a big defender of the Constitution, also said similar things.

Here's a start.

Again, this is not the WHP, but a separate issue.

Thanks. It's always good to furnish sources. I hope everyone reads your source.

It seems to validate Rammell's position.

Rammell needs to do much more than validate prophecies, he need to validate his position as a public servant.

He's a self serving sexist imbecile.

As for Mitt, he’s a High Priest, so you guys don’t need to worry about him.

- - - - - - -
JESUS is the ONLY High Priest. Re-read Hebrews. The Melchizedek priesthood is NOT transferable, it only belongs to ONE PERSON, Christ. The priesthood of Aaron was done away with the FINAL sacrifice for sin. To have any “high priest after the Order of Melchizedek” is to take that away from Jesus.

Hebrews 4

14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Hebrews 5

Every high priest is a man chosen to represent other people in their dealings with God. He presents their gifts to God and offers sacrifices for their sins. 2 And he is able to deal gently with ignorant and wayward people because he himself is subject to the same weaknesses. 3 That is why he must offer sacrifices for his own sins as well as theirs.

4 And no one can become a high priest simply because he wants such an honor. He must be called by God for this work, just as Aaron was. 5 That is why Christ did not honor himself by assuming he could become High Priest. No, he was chosen by God, who said to him,

“You are my Son.
Today I have become your Father.[a]”

6 And in another passage God said to him,

“You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

7 While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. 8 Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. 9 In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. 10 And God designated him to be a High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.
