In an interview with Newsweek's Eleanor Clift, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi criticized the Church for its position on abortion and gays rights and stated that her Bishop has "tried to change my mind"
Pelosi responds to questions about abortion in the health-care bill and her insistence that the original pre-Stupak bill did not fund abortion and says of the Bishops "they are not willing to accept facts."
It was reported that you were negotiating with the conference of bishops.Pelosi goes on to criticize the Church for its position on abortion and gay marriage while still claiming to be a "practicing" Catholic
I talked to one of the cardinals. I said to him that I believe that what we are doing honors the principles we talked about: we want to pass a health-care bill, we want it to be abortion neutral, and we want it to [have] no federal funding [for abortion], which is the law. And we believe that our language does that. They said, "We believe that it does not." I said, let's sit down at the table and our lawyers can compare language. That's what the meeting was about—to make our case. Clearly, the people at that table were not willing to accept what we know to be a fact.
I think you have had some brushes with [church] hierarchy. And finally admits that her Bishop has tried to change her mind on the subject, but she is not listening.
I have some concerns about the church's position respecting a woman's right to choose. I have some concerns about the church's position on gay rights. I am a practicing Catholic, although they're probably not too happy about that. But it is my faith. I practically mourn this difference of opinion because I feel what I was raised to believe is consistent with what I profess, and that is that we are all endowed with a free will and a responsibility to answer for our actions. And that women should have that opportunity to exercise their free will.
Is it difficult for you to reconcile your faith with the role you have in public life? What we know is that Nancy Pelosi continues to publicly represent herself as a faithful and practicing Catholic while continuing to to publicly oppose the Church on grave moral matters. We also know that her Bishop has apparently contacted her privately to try and change her mind, to which she has responded publicly by saying she will not be swayed. This is a text-book definition of scandal and should, at this point, be dealt with in a direct and public way lest no one else think that you can hold these positions and consider yourself a "practicing" Catholic.
You know, I had five children in six years. The day I brought my fifth baby home, that week my daughter turned 6. So I appreciate and value all that they want to talk about in terms of family and the rest. When I speak to my archbishop in San Francisco and his role is to try to change my mind on the subject, well then he is exercising his pastoral duty to me as one of his flock. When they call me on the phone here to talk about, or come to see me about an issue, that's a different story. Then they are advocates, and I am a public official, and I have a different responsibility.
Ping!
So how deep in hell DOES one go when one has publicly and unjustly called one’s Bishop a liar.
Please...no pics of either of these grotesques...it could break the screens of hundreds...
Most Protestant denominations would invite Pelosi to attend some other church. I wonder when the Catholics are going to excommunicate her.
Language? Why is there a need for lawyers, if is plain? How about, “No Federal Monies may be used to fund ANY abortion practice or procedure, under penalty of DEATH.”
Well, now, that would just about do it.
AND, why does the church not call these evil people out? Excommunicate them - PUBLICLY.
It is telling that this does not happen.
And how deep must a Bishop go to NOT excommunicate one so evil?
Good point.
Absolutely!
It absolutely puzzles me that these hypocrites - Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, Cuomo, etc. etc. etc. - put any effort into pretending they are “Catholic”...What is the point in professing to believe what you don’t believe? What kind of “believer” thinks their belief system is stupid and wrong? As for free will, they have the free will to pick another faith - one they actually AGREE with (say, devil worship, for example) - so why don’t they?
I have some concerns about the church's position on gay rights. Trans - I have a problem with Jesus saying what He did. How dare He spread HATE like that, Doesn't He know about DIVERSITY?
I am a practicing Catholic, although they're probably not too happy about that. But it is my faith. Trans - They don't have the cojones the Good Lord gave a cabbage to do anyhting about me!
Pelosi may be a “practicing” Catholic; but, obviously, she has not yet gotten it right.
She’s practicing in the penalty box. She never actually makes it onto the ice.
My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day. She has her food prepared for her. She can eat whenever she wants, 24/7/365. Her meals are provided at no cost to her. She visits the Dr. once a year for her checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise. Of course, this is before MengeleCare. For this she pays nothing, and nothing is required of her just like members of the US Congress. She lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than she needs, but she is not required to do any upkeep. If she makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. She has her choice of luxurious places to sleep. She receives these accommodations absolutely free. She is living like a queen, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of her costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day. I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head, Holy S#!t, my dog is a Pelosi Democrat!
LOL, have any more openings?
I hope you have not insulted your dog. Your dog will love you unconditionally all his days and will do all he can to protect you. Pelosi Democrats will only ask, “What have you done for me lately?”
Now you're talking! My niece's ex-boyfriend worked in New Orleans cleanup and tried to hire some men sitting on a wall watching them. They didn't want to work, no matter what they were paid - they had federal money coming to them and didn't want to "mess it up." Yup, same mentality, Obama transfer of wealth - working stiffs transferring their tax money to worthless stiffs waiting for their stash from their ACORN, SEIU, et al endorsed political heroes who make sure they'll never in their lifetime have to raise a finger except to salute middle class Americans.
The analogy breaks down when you consider comparative life spans. Pity.
