Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has apparently issued an ultimatum to four bishops embroiled in the Irish Catholic Church child sex abuse scandal to either quit or be fired by the Vatican.

It’s good to see some accountability being demanded from bishops. In the US, there has been no punishment of these people, and bishops whose dioceses have been bankrupted by payments for lawsuits are the leading lights of the USCCB.
Better yet, excommunicate them and be done with it.
If they did that, then they would not be better than your average weasel-politician. That is what has hurt the RCC more than anything else... The "reaction" AFTER the abuses came out big time.
Criminals and degenerates should be thrown under the bus. Period.
Oh, I don’t know, being reassigned to a monestary that requires total silence and nothing but work might be a nice ending for such people. The good priests who are doing it for love would see to it they kept their vows.
I wonder if any of them will fall on their croziers?

The Catholic Church is an organization based upon redemption, forgiveness and salvation. All sinners are given the opportunity to repent and demonstrate proper contrition. Excommunication is an option presented to the sinner that they themselves must elect.
I think they are thinking about defrocking. Not quite as easy to bust a bishop as to sack a general officer, for instance.
