Gerry Moniz didn't hesitate when asked what she thinks of the nationally publicized dispute between Providence Bishop Thomas J. Tobin and Patrick Kennedy over whether the congressman should refrain from taking Communion given his support for abortion rights.
"I think Patrick Kennedy is wrong," Moniz, 56, said when asked to comment on Monday at an East Providence shopping plaza. A Catholic from West Greenwich, she added, "If he doesn't want to be Catholic, he should go to another church. The rules of the Catholic Church are, "We don't approve of abortion.' And he doesn't like that."
At St. Francis Chapel in downtown Providence, several members expressed support for Kennedy after receiving Communion.
"I think the bishop should let it go. The Kennedy family does so much good," said Dorothy Boisseau, of Providence. "Jesus welcomed everyone."

Ignorance is curable.......Stupid is forever!!!
Just wished the Catholic church had the wisdom to have refused Ted Kennedy of the communion while he was living.
now that Teddy Sr is gone, the bishops are finding a little backbone. hope it’s not too late in the game.
Yes, Jesus welcomed everyone, but he also told them to go forth and sin no more. It’s amazing how many people forget the second half.
You mean during the moments when they're not drunk, drugged-out, raping, and whoring?
patrick got his letter years ago, long before daddyted died. the RI Bishop kept it confidential, the arrogant kennedy is the one who brought this up now.
and as a practicing Catholic I say it’s about time Patrick either converted to his own church or left it.
This is just like stupid Northeastern Catholics. Bishop Tobin is NOT the one who made this public. Patrick Kennedy did so, precisely to elicit this reaction from his fellow Rhode Island Catholics. Most of those folks have been CINOs for years, because they've been drinking the Democrat Party and Union kool-aid all that time.
I am continually amazed at just how poorly catechized these folks are. Many of them went to Catholic schools through the 12th grade,a nd sometimes through college! I went to Catholic school in Mississippi only through the 8th grade, but I know a heck of a lot more about what the Church teaches, and WHY, than these goobers do!
In the immortal words of His cousin, John the Baptist ...
"You brood of vipers, who told you to flee from the wrath to come?"
Is that 'welcoming' enough for you, ma'am?
Mass-goers express their views on the weird, unfamiliar world of basic Catholicism.
Skulls full of mush.
I read somewhere, I forget where, that supposedly Jesus talked about Hell more than anyone else in either the Old or New Testament. If true, then the point is “we have been warned.”
Really? silly me. I thought I remembered him saying "narrow is the gate that leads to life and few are those who enter"
not wisdom — b****. The present bishop HAS them. Muscular Christianity is back!
The comments from the parishioners show that an utterly false, twisted version of Catholicism has been preached for a couple of generations. One without any consciousness of sin. It will be a long slog back to the truth. Many people will refuse to make the trip, and there will always be Kennedys to exploit them.
This is a very sad situation. Many Northeastern Bishops decided to throw out the Catechism after Vatican II. The best and simplest method of teaching Christian Doctrine to children was abandoned and supplanted with touchy-feely picture books. The strong masculine Christian Saints of old were replaced with JFK and Martin Luther King.
Those Bishops have a lot to answer for before the Almighty.
They do good skiing and flying....helps control the population....( I know I am mean)
