Wouldn't you rather just do the best with your religion that you can and leave others to worship in the way they choose?

60,000 MORMON Missionaries say that you are wrong.

I guess religion is more of a private thing for me. I just don't get much out of trying to figure out which sect is right.

I guess we'll not find out what your 'religion' is then.

You could WORSHIP Giant African Tree Frogs for all I know...

Isn’t that a good thing that is unlikely to hurt them on Judgment day?

Speaking of Judgement Day...

"He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be."
 - Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321

"You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god..."
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88

"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]"
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)

There is "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God"
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

"I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, "Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;" if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgression—if you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again."
 - Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155

"It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,"
 - Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670

I think what makes most people so dang mad at Mormons is that they behave more like Christians than most self-proclaimed Christians do!

I believe that, on the whole, Mormons exemplify the qualities that the majority of Christians had been living out for centuries before.

I think that most christians are happy to accept them as brothers and sisters ... until we find out that they have that other book that they really place above the Bible.

Then we start to find out all that other stuff (Joseph Smith, Hebrews in America, golden plates, etc.) ... and it all goes downhill from there.

On the other hand, I HAVE read and heard the word used inoffensively and politely. After all, words mean what they are USED to mean.

`I don't know what you mean by "glory",' Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. `Of course you don't -- till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!"'

`But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument",' Alice objected.

`When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'

`The question is,' said Alice, `whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

`The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, `which is to be master -- that's all.'

If one has to explain why good manners and polite behavior are desirable, our society is in real trouble.

If one hides behind good manners and polite behavior, we get political correctness - which is a foul miasma of vapid lispings which HAS placed our society in REAL trouble.

How about killing or stoning to punish adultery?

So MANY rabbitholes; yet so LITTLE time.

I am always wary of those who wear their religion on their sleeves.

And I am wary of those who hide what they truly believe.

If your Church has good works to mention, just like the Mormons do, now would be a good time to post them on this thread.

WORKS?!?

Luke 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

So you broadcast your Social Security Number on the internet. My religious beliefs are a private matter and since I not running for public office or being questioned as a potential juror in a trial where religion might become an issue there is reason for me to disclose.

As I have stated in previous replies, I have stated that role of religion (and I emphasize any religion) in discussions is valid but substantive concepts are best omitted.

Oh? "Any religion?"

Then what "substantive concepts are best ommited" from the following:

Not saying that Mormons are murderers, except for maybe the Mountain Meadows Massacre thingy.
Just carrying your argument to it's natural conclusion.

As long you are going back in history, what about the Inquisition? There are very few religions that have lily white records. I would also point out that many Christians were actors in the holocaust. Was the Mountain Meadow Massacre the result of Mormon principles or rogue followers acting on false beliefs.

I thought you were averse to discussing religion?

Was the Mountain Meadow Massacre the result of Mormon principles or rogue followers acting on false beliefs.

Just WHO gets to decide what beliefs are 'false'?

Not hardly talking about past history with the Islamic issue are we, especially considering what happened at Fort Hood.

Now what "substantive concepts are best ommited"?

They are rude. There’s nothing Christian about an anti-Mormon obsession. If somebody else’s Christianity is different that yours, it’s not that big of a deal.
___________________________________________

It’s a big “deal” to Jesus...

he said there was only one “Christianity”..,.

So Jesus would be “rude”...

Jesus said to mysterio, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man or woman comes to the Father except by ME. “ John 14:6

Very early in this thread I stated when religious beliefs are the cause of harm to innocent parties then discussion of those beliefs are warranted, if not mandated.
