This from a good source in Rome: apparently both Lambeth Palace and elements in the Vaticans Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity were implacably opposed to Pope Benedict XVIs dramatic new arrangements for Anglicans. The source also reports speculation that Archbishop Rowan Williams put pressure on Vatican ecumenists to stop the Apostolic Constitution being issued. For all I know, he did persuade Cardinal Kasper, head of the Pontifical Council, that it wasnt a good idea. But this particular portfolio was taken out of Kaspers hands a long time ago; indeed, it looks as if the cardinal was simply informed what was happening by the CDF.
The professional ecumenists on both sides had decades to get this right. They screwed it up.

Anglican-Catholic ecumenical efforts were going nowhere anyway, because of ordination of women and tolerance of homosexual behavior. This appears to be the pope’s nuclear option being put in effect.
Gosh, too bad for them. I’m so glad B16 is our Pope, rather than Rowan the Archdruid.
Anglican and Episcopal leaders have decided to reinterpret scriptures, chuck tradition, and embrace heresies. We humble members were given the choice to acquiesce or get out. Now, it appears that we may be welcome elsewhere. I’m going to give Rome some long thought.
"Dr Rowan Williams sounds humiliated and, I suspect, furious that the Vatican sprang the plans to welcome ex-Anglicans on him 'at a very late stage'."
Who is that?
And humiliated he should be. Dr. Williams has had many, many chances to do the right thing, but he was afraid to. Now he’s in a fine pickle! In addition, I am suspicious that the Queen’s “not amused” at the situation he’s got the Church into.
This one is more recent. And more charming and Druid-y, somehow:
I don’t think they look alike. Their noses are completely different.
Note also that the first man is not young.
Geez.......don’t you watch Doctor Who?
That was a picture of “The Master”, from the original ‘Dr. Who’ series.
He was one of the great villains in the series, and in one of the other stories on the page with the article, the author compared Dr Williams with “The Master”, praising “The Master” for at least being consistent.

If you are familiar with the character, as most British who grew up watching Dr Who are, the comparison is a hoot.
Dr Who had some truly great villains and monsters, and the original actor who played “The Master”, Roger Delgado, became as memorable as the Daleks, the Cybermen, and other such nemesis.
I thought that looked like The Master!
That’s the actor who played The Master on Dr. Who in the early 1970s. He was Dr. Who’s archrival.

Roger Delgado is the actor in the photo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Delgado
The other beloved actor who played the Master was Anthony Ainley: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Ainley
Here is "The Master" wearing a clerical collar (again, down the page from the original article).
"Unlike Archbishop Rowan Williams, at least the Master knew what he believed. James Delingpole reckons that Archbishop Rowan Williams is reminiscent of Doctor Whos arch-enemy the Master, as played by Roger Delgado in the incomparable Pertwee era. I think thats a bit unfair. On the Master.
"As you can see from the above picture, the Master made rather a distinguished-looking clergyman: in The Daemons (1971), he surfaced as the Rev Mr Magister, new vicar of a West Country parish where demonic powers were being unleashed (by the incumbent, needless to say, though it took the Doctor to work that out).
"Well, the Master had his flaws, Ill give you that. One of which was an unwavering commitment to the forces of evil. But at least he didnt waffle, like Dr Rowan Williams. He wasnt always strictly truthful, but unless you were massively gullible you knew where he stood. He was in favour of unbridled greed, tryannical world domination, the enslavement of entire galaxies, and the ordination of women bishops."
Oh! Sorry! I confess ignorance...
At the onset of the homosexual takeover of the American church, rumor had it that Williams went against the Queen’s desire to limit the damage to the American church. The American church’s falling was said to have seriously upset churches in Africa, Asia and South America.
Williams at first tried to get the American church to stop at Vickie Gene’s entry as Bishop but he could not stop “progess” towards hell so he gave in an embraced homosexuality.
Now this has happened with the Catholic church giving those unhappy with the homosexual control of the church a place to go. You can imagine how angry the liberals are. When they wreck a church and strip it of faith, they count on the faithful having no where to go. It is like when the communists build a wall around Utopia so no one can get out of hell. The Pope blasted a big old hole in the wall.
If nothing else, this is going to give those regional leaders in the Church of England, resisting the homosexual mandates and takeover, some cards of power to play. Wiliams knows they don’t have to sit back and take the immoral abuse now. Protecting the faith is not William’s strong suit. Political correctness is.
Excellent analysis.
The ‘higher ups’ may be wringing their hands, but many of the common people are NOT.
I have received FReepmail from a couple of FReepers who are making this move to the Catholic Church.
Hmmmm. Makes me wonder how many more there are!
