Artist crucifies ape and electrocutes Jesus... (Disgusting!)

There's a new cross on display at the old Holy Trinity Church at Marylebone in the heart of London, but the figure dangling from it isn't Jesus; it's a gorilla.

Actually, it's a wax sculpture; one of 60 pieces in an exhibit called The Age of the Marvelous. And the church isn't a church either; at least, not any more. Built in 1825, the former Holy Trinity Church is now One Marylebone, a conference center catering to meetings, events and exhibits, large and small..

The very life-like gorilla on a cross was created by artist Paul Fryer with the help of a former Madame Tussauds waxworks expert. The piece is entitled The Privilege of Dominion and is intended to highlight the plight of the Western Lowland Gorilla as well as to challenge the idea that animals have no souls. The artist insists that he didn't intend to offend Christians.

"I do go to church and regard myself as a Christian, though I'm probably a heretic," Fryer said in an interview reported by the London Evening Standard. "I just hope people understand the spirit of it is intended to create discourse and make people think rather than offend anybody."

The artist also defended his other work in the exhibit, a Pieta-like sculpture of an electrocuted black Jesus, by saying it was intended to challenge people's notions of race and religion.

Maybe Christians should start blowing things up and launching jihads. Maybe they’d like us more.

Of course not....He is interested in keeping his head on!

People offend Christians in every way, because they know they can get away with it, at least until the King of King returns....

Come soon LORD JESUS!

You’ve got to feel sorry for these homos. They are a cynical lot. They think they can get under Christians’ skins. I couldn’t care less (other than, as I said, feeling sorry for them).

If they had any truth in them, any sense of proportion and consistency, they’d do mohammed in some ridiculous effigy. But no, it’s only the Way the Truth and the Life that they have a problem with (plus they can do their sacrileges and still live to tell the tale).

Can we do something with Roman Polanski - maybe he could direct it? Let’s have lunch.

OK, the ape bothers me, but if Jesus had been put to death in, say, the 1920s, he may very well have been electrocuted. Remember, crucification was simply a common execution style in that time.

I thought the left believed when we die, that's it, no such thing as a soul.

How can you believe people have souls and not believe in GOD?

That makes no sense. You’re bothered about an ape being crucified - which would’ve never happened, but not too concerned about Jesus being electrocuted (also, which would have never happened).

“People offend Christians in every way”

But no, he didn’t mean to “offend” Christians. We’re expected to see his very enlightened POV.

It makes perfect sense that a Christian would be bothered more by some cretin putting an ape in the place of the Saviour of Mankind (on a cross in a church) than simply changing the method of state execution of the same Saviour (ancient to modern).

I’m waiting for him to unveil a work depicting a gorilla writing the Koran.

Holding my breath, actually.
