My grandfather had to stay in Utah with the first wife and family, otherwise I might have been a Mexican.
Wait until you taste my salsa.
And my Chile Rellenos are wonderful!
I already speak all the Spanish I need. "Dos Cervazas Mas"

I get the feeling we’re going to get a new “divine” revelation about polygamy real soon.

I hope this is not too boring I didn't find it boring at all.
I've done the family tree thing and all my ancestors seemed to have one spouse and only one was hanged.
I am a direct descendant of the infamous John Brown, on the maternal side of my family.

Actually you’d have to feel a bit sorry for them ... look at all those father/mother in laws they have to put up with ...

I look at that situation as just a step up from the "fence jumping ghetto parents who have babies with various men/women without ever marrying or caring for them in the same home". A man with multiple wives is exhibiting his inability to commit to one woman and family, and using religion as an excuse to continually find new women to bed.
To: fishtank
Scenario...Mormon church calls members to work against same-sex marriage, much publicity of its involvement, much whining about being "persecuted", garners sympathy of pro-life supporters....later...Obama and the dems invoke federal power to overturn the will of the people (see: HealthCare) and do away with "one man, one woman"...with SCOTUS now liberal majority, (especially if Ginsburg leaves soon as seems likely) SCOTUS joins the dance...."one man, one woman" deemed unconstitutional and disappears and "anything goes" becomes the law of the land....and mormon church "reluctantly" waltzes in, (there is a reason that section 132 is still "scripture") in trios, quartets, sextets...etc. etc...(men with women only, donchaknow) and a fandango of immorality sweeps the country.
LDS and FLDS do-si-do in "spirit of thankfulness that the 'true gospel' again triumphs" and Joseph Smith is lauded as being a true prophet, Mitt Romney becomes Obama's "Marriage Czar".
With what is happening right now, this is not an impossibility.

Joey Smith found it a great way to get girls...He could 'translate'; but evidently he couldn't READ!!
1 Timothy 3:2-3
2. Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
3. not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
1 Timothy 3:12
A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.
Titus 1:6
An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.
BEHOLD!!!! The Restorative Power of the Book of Mormon!!
THE BOOK OF JACOB
THE BROTHER OF NEPHI
CHAPTER 2
24 Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.
25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
31 For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.
32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.

Well, my if memory serves me well, it was explained to me that those "worthy" mormons who made it to the Celestial kingdom could go down and visit those in the lower kingdoms but those in the lower kingdoms were stuck where they were. So, no, they wouldn't all be "one happy family"...it would be kinda like it was in early Utah where the hubby would visit the homes of his plural wives and children.(I'd like to see that chapter&verse citation)
To: Colofornian
They should live in places were polygamy is common and see the misery of the wives.
Two things no one brings up:
One, in countries were men are lacking (in the LDS, they had a lot more women converts for example) polygamy allows all women the blessing of being married.
So polygamy is lousy, but better than being a spinster, especially in countries were single women have no ability to work and single women would end up as unpaid servants of their brothers.
Two: Where polygamy is common, the ones who really suffer are young men, since there is a woman shortage due to older men (with money) marrying several wives.
