Prayer to St. Monica
Exemplary Mother of the great Augustine, you perseveringly pursued your wayward son not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to heaven.
Intercede for all mothers in our day so that they may learn to draw their children to God. Teach them how to remain close to their children, even the prodigal sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray. Amen.
I know I have prayed for my children, and I suspect many others have too.

My dear mother passed away in 2007, about 6 weeks shy of her 95th birthday. St. Monica was one of her favorite saints.

Thank you for this post. I pray to St. Monica for two of my three children and a sibling. She reminds me of the woman in the Gospels who made such a pest of herself that God answered her prayers!
Monica’s faith and hope during all those years of waiting is an inspiration to us all. I also think of Mother Teresa patiently enduring her desert of the soul with faith and hope.
