Is it right to pray that Trig Palin be healed of his Down Syndrome? Many parents of children with Down Syndrome think it's a horrible thing to do.
Tell God thanks for Trig’s wonderful momma.
Children with Down's Syndrome can face a myriad of health complications and developmental difficulties that can, in some cases, be improved.
I would focus on the hope of good health and development.
Pardon me, I forgot all the Down Syndrome criminals we have filling our jail cells across the country. It's hard to commit something you can't conceptualize. As far as it being a gift, step outside this world and think of the next. What are decades of disability compared to an eternal glory? Like I said, he's the lucky one...

Prayer is BEYOND the ‘subjective’. He’s ‘bigger than us’ and leave it with Him.
Er, arrogant, who are the nuts in denial? I couldn’t tell what you were referring to.
ottbmare, you suggest praying that God’s Will be done in Trig’s life.
Isn’t that pretty much a given? Who could trump God’s Will?
Simply praying that God’s Will be done is the same as not praying at all.
So you doubt that the Creator can correct a genetic abnormality?
I don’t think it’s wrong to pray that someone be healed of their disability. Lord knows I’ve prayed enough myself. It would be a tremendous blessing if it happens, but if not, “it is so that the glory of God may be made manifest”.
I had the good fortune to know a someone with Down’s Syndrome for 40 years, and I never knew anyone that touched as many lives as he did.A sharp wit with a great dry sense of humor;he could fire off the one-liners with the best of ‘em.He lived to be 52,and HE ended up being his 90-year-old mother’s caretaker.Anyone would have considered themselves blessed to have had him for a son,a brother,or a friend.
People with Down syndrome have different levels of mental retardation. I don’t think having a severe disability is any kind of gift from God. Would you be happy if all your children had severe mental disabilities? Most people would love and accept them just the same, but anyone who wished that would have to have some mental disability of their own.
If you think people born with Down syndrome are lucky then it would only make sense that you wish there were more people born with it. That way of thinking just doesn’t make any sense to me.
I’ll pray that I figure out where this homepage thing is to fill out. Thanks for letting me know there’s such a function.
You’re right, I haven’t been here long, and this forum is difficult to navigate if you’re not used to it.
Not at all. A lot of things happen on this earth that are not God's will. As one example, people do things all the time that are not God's will for them.
Stan is quite active in this world, and he creates all sorts of suffering, wickedness, pain, and destruction. You cannot believe it is God's will that horrible things should happen.
I have learned not to try to coerce the Lord in my prayers. Prayer should not be an effort to talk God into doing what we want, but to bend our will to conform with His.
There isn’t any cure for genetic disorders and praying for one is basically wasting God’s time.
God doesn’t always heal. I’ve been praying for healing for 25 years. But God’s grace has been more than sufficient. I’ve learned much through suffering. And I’m still learning. My DS friend’s parents are overjoyed with her. She’s an absolute delight. All four of their children are exceptional and full of love for God, even this child. I think she sees God in a far better way than we do. God’s glory IS manifest through her, just as she is. We prayed her through heart surgeries and other procedures. She came through just fine. My life is richer because she’s in it.
I don’t understand your comment at all.
Jesus said He would do anything that we asked, if we asked with faith. Why would He say that, if He didn’t want us to ask anything, or if He only wanted us to ask for help accepting whatever happens to be going on?
Are you suggesting that a child with Down’s Syndrome faces an equal amount of cruelty?
If you are, I disagree.
“People are always calling eachother names like that. Even so called normal kids get teased and called retard or some other names like fatso, etc. Its part of life unfortunately.”
It’s a huge genetic thing that’s not going to go away because you ask it to. It’s not something that’s going to kill him because it’s robbing him of his natural life - however long that is.
Trig probably doesn’t care he has Down’s syndrome. I think you have to look at this differently than say, a tumor or a cleft palate. It isn’t the same thing.
I don’t think it is serious enough to pray over. Just go to Account at the top of the page, hit it and fill it out. It asks State and if you want to say something about yourself. You can also hit the donate button at anytime.
State is important because you can talk to people just in your State not the whole forum.
Where do you get the idea that this is wished by me or anyone else? First, understand the world in which we live. There is a long history of what kind of treatment you get down here if you are one of God's favorites, prophets, even his own living Son. We all know how that worked out. My point is this. And this is just my belief, no better or worse than any other that's out there.
We are here to prove that we are worthy of the gift of eternal life by our faith and our actions. Maybe, just maybe, there were some sent here that had already proved their worth, but still needed to live in the body to complete the process that we all must fulfill. So maybe, just maybe, they are placed in a body that protects them from the failures that ensnare us all, whether they be minor or mortal.
Of course I don't wish Downs Syndrome on anyone, that would be ludicrous. But neither do I view it as such a crushing blow either, to be pitied or lamented. They teach us something about God every day that we seem to forget too easily. And that is the pure and unconditional love they have for all they encounter. That is there to remind us of how far we have to go ourselves in that department. Like I said, it's just a belief that I have come to after 42 years on this floating rock. Hope this helps to bring some sense to "that way of thinking..."
