The cause for beatification of Pope John Paul II has moved a step forward, according to a report by Andrea Tornielli of the Italian daily newspaper Il Giornale. Tornielli-- who has accurately predicted several recent developments inside the Vatican-- says that theological consultors working with the Congregation for the Causes of Saints have delivered a positive verdict on the positio, the full case in favor of a pronouncement that the life of John Paul II was marked by "heroic virtue." The positio will now be forwarded to the full Congregation for the Causes of Saints for a vote later this year, Tornielli says. If a decree of "heroic virtue" is approved by the Pope, the recognition of a miracle would be the only remaining requirement for the beatification of the late Pontiff.

Better "John Paul II - the Beloved."
I agree.
While John Paul II prevented an unmitigated disaster that Vatican II might have become under a more liberal pope, and left his mark in many aspects of theology and praxis, the test of his greatness will be in the success of his chosen successor Pope Benedict XVI in restoring the orthodoxy in the Church. John Paul’s greatness will, therefore, be not entirely his alone.
Why don’t they just beatify all the popes and lets save some bandwidth? :-)
Praying for the intercession of one lacking heroic virtue would be real loss of time — or “bandwidth” — wouldn’t it?
Did I miss something? Thought I said beatify them all. That way you can pray thru them all? Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Yes, you did miss something.
1. Anyone can pray for the intercession of anyone who passed on. Beatification is not necessary for people to pray. However, for the prayer to be effective, a life of heroic virtue is ordinarily required on the part of the person to whom the prayer is addressed. So, for example, one can pray to Pope Borgia now, but given the evident lack of heroic virtue in Pope Borgia’s case, it would be “waste of bandwidth” to do so.
2. Heroic virtue is something a life either possessed or did not. Beatification cannot proceed unless there is objective evidence of such. An act of beatification cannot confer virtue; the saint earns these merits himself in his life time.
Does this count as a "miracle"?
If God anointed the successor who are you to judge his decision? Beatify the dude.
**the recognition of a miracle would be the only remaining requirement for the beatification **
One miracle for “Blessed”
Another miracle for “Saint”
These are two independent things, papacy and sainthood.
That was, in my mind, a mere act of courtesy, but many, I assure you, would point to certain “ecumenical” prayers with non-Christians that are deeply problematic, even though he meant well.
Actually the vast majority of Popes are not made saints. There is currently support for Pius X, Pius XII, John XXIII, and John Paul II, the Great.
YOPIOS (Your own personal interpretation of stupidity?
even though he meant well.
The road to hell....
I say make them all saints. If ya'll believe God picks your successor he must see something in all of them. Unless He made a mistake.
It is always entertaining to discuss something with a person who is completely ignorant of the subject matter.
Thanx. I'm always happy to provide entertainment. Especially over this holiday weekend.
Actually, I never heard an alternative explanation of the Koran-kissing episode. If it were not courtesy, what was it?
I can tell you this, — on the road to sainthood, whether John Paul II travels it or not, this won’t be an obstacle, the “ecumenical” prayers at Assisi will.
