JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Eight religious statues at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandarin were damaged and some of them destroyed.
One of the statues was a St. Patrick statue valued at $30,000. One of the other statues vandalized was a blessed mother. It was made of white Italian marble, worth more than $22,000. It is now missing a head as it was kicked off its pedestal.
"It's a very strong disappointment, but we move on," said Father Dan Cody.
Cody said the vandalism was discovered early Sunday morning right before Mass.
There has never been anything sacred about statues in the eyes of God. The Pope maybe...
My point is that we aren’t safe to practice our religion anymore. The IRS telling us what we can preach and not preach about. Heck, Catholic Answers sued the IRS and the IRS accused CA of “interferring in politics”. All CA said was that Kerry “ shouldn’t receive communion”. Statues to me are sacramentals like the bible is a sacramental.

Iconoclasm post-Incarnation is not an option.
Any other religion and this would be a Hate crime!!!
That’s why I say dark times are approaching. Very dark times. It will get worse before it gets better.
This church is down the road from me. The statues are pretty well hidden from the street and I never knew there was statues there when I drove by once in the while.
I wonder who could have done it.
Some folks on this very forum, if not capable of actually doing it, approve. It isn't just the "political left" and mohammedans that hate us.
Being Catholic: Sacred Things, Sacred Images: Statues and Other Icons
You are so correct.
Nobody on here hates you or the Church, AB. Any time any one of us challenges your beliefs, you strike back with anger and hatred. The hatred comes from your side more often than not. No such thing as dialogue anymore.
I agree!
He is not talking so much about hatred as he is arrogance. Just yesterday someone on here declared that Catholics are not Christian. Well I for one believe that was un-Christian to say something like that. No one can determine who has or has not a relationship with Christ. It’s like hearing over and over and over and over and over Catholics worship Mary,it’s simply a lie. I would rather ask for Mary’s prayers than anyone on here,at least we can be assure of her humility. If our Father in heaven went through Mary I say Praise God for he does good things.
I don’t believe ALL Catholics are Christian merely because they belong to the Catholic Church. They become Christians when the receive the Lord Jesus Christ into their lives. It’s a choice. There are many who are Christian and I believe some on these threads are Christians. They love the Lord and follow Him to the best of their abilities. I do understand that you love your faith and I admire that.
It would be nice if I could actually believe that. You and I have been here about the same length of time. You've seen what I've seen. I'm not sure you properly recognised it, though. I've seen from the "protestant" side: falsehoods, misrepresentations, false accusations, distortions, quotes-out-of-context ... on a colossal scale ... for the better part of ten years ... with no evidence of willingness to accept correction.
I can't read minds: I don't know if it's hate, contempt, ethnic bigotry, invincible ignorance, willful ignorance, or something else ... but it's ugly and it never goes away. And it paints an absolutely horrible picture of "protestantism".
No such thing as dialogue anymore.
There never was ... certain elements on the "protestant" side cling to their errors (and I don't mean theology I disagree with; I mean grotesquely erroneous characterizations of other folks' beliefs) with a persistence that would be admirable if in pursuit of a good. Many folks on the "protestant" side are simply unequipped for dialogue. They are burdened with too many erroneous notions of what the other side believes to be capable of dialogue.
Remember, AB, that the road goes both ways here on insults and lies and distortions. My church personally gets attacked here and the attacker doesn’t even know us, so does my pastor. I don’t insult HIS pastor. Nastiness prevails on the Catholic side often. Blessings, Mary
