God helps those who help themselves, The Government sure as heck ain’t gonna help us, so we have only ourselves to count on in the coming future.

To pray for ANY nation that began with fundamental Christian moral principles is fine. America did not exist when the Bible was written. If we are allies of Israel, does it not bear the extension of the Holy Land?

I think it does.

Why do so many in the American Church cling to America when America has made it clear it wants nothing to do with the Church?

Because most Americans have not made anything remotley like this statement "clear".

America is the people...and tens of millions of Americans make it clear that they retain their faith in God and fight for the unalienable rights and fundamental values this nation and its liberties rest upon...which values and which unalienable rights this nation, perhaps alone amongst all nations on earth, recognizes in its founding documents are granted to us by God.

II Chron 7:14

It is true that we are in a fight, and it is first and foremost a spiritual fight...but I hold that the words of Patrick Henry over 200 years ago are just as applicable today.

"They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed...? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave."
Those truths have not changed.

We are at a pivotal crossroads in our nation's history. A very steep, very hard and dangerous roads leads one way...an abject fatal precipice leads the other.

First of all, God never said the He helps those who help themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is when I am weak that God is strong.

Secondly, unless you are getting direct revelation from God telling you not to pray for America, you are playing God when you tell people not to pray for America. St. Paul told Christians to pray for the king, and the king was far worse than what we have today.

There is no such thing as a Christian government although there may be Christians in the government. Christ's kingdom is not of this world, and the government was not instituted to make Christians. The state is not an instrument of the Church, and it does not directly serve the Church. The Church is not a worldly government. There is so much poor theology posted on FR that it is depressing at times.

It is refreshing to read something so blunt and true. While we are suppose to pray for our leaders, I don't believe it simply that they'll have a nice golf game or have "wisdom" on how to lead us. Clearly it didn't work on Nero who used Christians as human torches to light up his parties.

I think this picture of Jeremiah captures how many of us Christians feel these days.
